Yay I won! :D
Probably not going to submit a save this week, way behind on my summer work, can't wait to see where this fort goes though.

Why is there a siege? How did I miss this? Oh, yeah, updates lacking formatting. I'll try to break my recap up a bit to help.

I'll try to submit a save, but I don't think I'll have time to.

Alright, I'll let this thread sink to the bottom until I finish my year.
If I have enough free time to do so.

I got as far as mid-summer - then someone came into my office and I had to kill DF quick, should have saved.  I'll retry later, and this time the necromancer wont escape! :)

Why not just minimise it? Or...save every month or so, tops?
(In-game month, not IRL-month.)

By the 5th of Granite most the undead were either chopped up, bashed in, sat on or basicaly deader than last time.  But it was at a cost. On the Night of the 4th of Granite Adil Kosothinash decided that he should be the one to step out in order that the door could be shut before the necromancer reawoke the dead dead inside the fortress. Alas his plan didn't work, well the door did get shut and all the dead inside stayed dead, but he, outside, alone, ... didn't stay living. And the Necromancer has eluded us.   Adil Kosothinash we will remember you, possibly by engraving an image of your death on my bedroom wall, but more likely with an image on an exquisitely carved toothbrush.

Anyway, now that the flurry of hacking and slashing is out of the way, I've let the squad have the day off to wash off blood and bits, and I've ordered the reshaping of the hillside, so we can focus our attention on intruders easier.

2nd of Felsite. We heard shouting, quick get the squad together. Oh wait those are dwarves and they are waving at us. 7 dwarves showed up, at least they are all adults, one of them (an Administrator) knows which end of a spear is sharp, so I'll introduce her to the barracks, another knows how to chop down trees and burn them... Those seem to be the useful ones <sigh>

Then...  4 Kobold Thieves all at once, they're jumping over bins in an attempt to escape, killing all 4 turned out to be tricky - Oh, an Ambush at the same time... It all happened so fast, some of the theives escaped, the squad went back indoors, the kobold bomen came over the roof of the entrance and the squad leapt out, then arrows, blood and flashes of blades, our new recruit gets a kill and a broken bone.  Feb Vutokzagod fell in a pool of his own blood, and Ilral Kedolin was carried indoors.  Some of the kobolds died, but not enough, Revenge! we will have it! ... next time.

9th Hematite, strange, I haven't seen any merchants yet this year, I better take a look at the depot, now that theres only one route to it.
24th hematite:   A makeshift hospital has been set up for our first major repair job (Bomrek Oddomanam), I think we are going to need more thread. Our medical expert has had his other duties reduced.

7th Galena:  Oh great, the Dwarves elected a Mayor (Tulon Unibsat) who 'does not go out of his way to help others' - typical!   And now the dead are back again, or should I say, the 'not-yet-dead-enough' are back, 49 of them so far. Maybe I should 'not go out of my way' to keep the mayor safe, or maybe I'll lock him in the room with the windows so he can count all the zombies. Oh look our Necromancer is back and hes brought a friend.

And now a fidgety salt beast in the caverns, I think I'm shut in for a some time to plan something devious. Still at least our only grazer (baby alpaca) is safe up on the roof.

24th Galena: we've decided to extend the trap corridor with more of these wonderfull glass discs that the cook had been using as pie trays. I said we should use his pies, then there was a scuffle and the pies ended up being thrown, so glass discs it is. Some part-time mechanics have been drafted in to get the job done.  Don't tell the cook but we did use some of his Rock buns

25th Limestone : Rock bun traps and kitchen glass tray traps done, I think we are ready...

2nd Sandstone, all threats at the front door have been sliced up by pie tray or iron sword... well I threw a rock bun at one of them, it never stood up again.

25th Sandstone : Solon Stakudging has gone loopy, she thinks shes better at making soap than me, she also says the flame parrot is going to spit ducks and sweet pods on her birthday cake, and wont stop dancing and shouting. I don't think shes eaten in days ... Nutter!
Ineth Gatizton has decided that now is her time to make something wonderful for us all to be impressed with... shes down there right now trying to stick donkey leather on a big lump of rock.   Nobody is taking any notice.

Wow, its a figurine, wait... thats interesting, its about the Rampage of Oxul FarmAttacks the Shadow Hag Consort.   As a former prisoner of the Severe Demon I'm sure she has quite a few stories to tell, maybe she should be an engraver, although seeing as she has a fertile imagination, she could have made the whole thing up... I'll ask her mother.

Solon Stakudging has run outside naked - entertaining, but ... I'll make sure theres a coffin ready.

Finally we've managed to get some more wood, its been scarce lately.  The entrance to the fort has had all the bodies/bits removed so the door shuts again.

15th Timber: The outpost Liason has arrived, with wagons... I hope I have enough trinkets to sell.  "Bobnova... to the trade depot!...  where is he?"

Oh look, A Necromancer thought he'd sneak in on the back of a wagon... Id Orrunoddom just took his head off - hurray, wait... is his head still moving, Now Nil Stinurist just shot the other one, just in time The first ones head is still where it landed.

"Bobnova! Trade depot!... what?... On a break?"

Solon Stakudging, The naked loony, you remember, yeah that one, well she finaly died... right next to the dead necromancers head, and they both come back to life - theres another necromancer out there!...

"Bobnova! ... At last, do the trading thing"

Nish our top Potter has been scratched by an undead arm, ... through the skull,... another one for the burial.

16th Opal: The merchants have finally left, and I'm in a foul mood. Ooops no, a Fey Mood... so I'm off to contstruct something mysterious... This will be the best yet, you'll see... Um ... Its ... A Door... Hey, at least it has spikes on it.  Now I'm a legendary mason, I used to be good at soap making you know.

16th Obsidian : A quick tidy up round the fort before I'm done, bury the two recruits that we lost.   Now a little self appraisal, what did I accomplish, hmmm. not a lot it seems, but most of us survived another year. The Mayor is probably not happy, his rooms are not fully ready, the small marksdwarf squad has nowhere to train yet, and the cook makes rock buns harder than a masons blocks ... Ouch!

Late winter : Everyones inside, the doors locked... roll call: 54.
Ready to hand over the keys.
wait,... what happened to the forgotten beast, I forgot about it <gulp>

[OOC:  This was my first succession fort, so hopefully I zipped up the right folder, and uploaded correctly. The above text reads OK to me, but if its total nonsense to you just say so, I can take it <snif>  maybe if I get a next-time, I'll even make screenshots. EDIT: I did a screenshot - go me, I think I've now attained my 1 star proficiency in succession games]
