Your goal seems to be to make the world a better place. But you don`t know exactly how you want to achieve this, yet. (Well, and one can always change his mind.)
I would like to rename the dagger "Menacing Iron Spike".
Name our clothing The Impenetrable Garb
What an oversight! If you have the power of appellomancy, why shouldn`t you use it to improve your gear? You take out your dagger and name it "Menacing Iron Spike". You could swear that your dagger looks more menacing- But also more like a spike than a blade. You run your thumb across the blade and sure enough; It feels rounder and less sharp. Well, that means that you shouldn`t try to cut anything anymore with it.. But the point is just as sharp as it was.
Well, that surely didn`t go as expected. Maybe you will be more successful with your clothing. You name your attire, consisting of good leather boots, travel stained pants and a well-worn shirt the "Impenetrable Garb". It suddenly feels a bit heaviers and thicker; And you know that it will offer additional protection.. But also that you will sweat heavily in it, now.
whats going about in the world.
Ah, now you recall. The Empire has conquered many parts of the world, but now it`s in a state of decline. It`s officials are often corrupt and as of late many border regions of the empire have seceded from it. The Empire is at war with two other kingdoms, though, and has ignored the rebels for now, which only fuels their resolve. As it happens one of those seceded countries, Lamargh, is to the south of Bagrah- Only some two hundred miles away. This obviously worries the people of Bagrah.
Enter wizard guildhall, obtain information.
Since the guildhall is nearby you decide to visit it. As you approach it you are challenged by an aspiring wizard "So, you want to enter the guildhall? If so, please tell me what your business is. I`m Farghil the Gatewarden. Only those with magical abilities or enough gold to buy our services might enter."
Since you have neither spells which you could show him, nor enough gold, you decide to leave the guildhall for now. How disappointing.
Buy a cloth bag.
And then, uh, go find a tavern.
As you slender through the streets of Bagrah you notice that the town is pretty organized. You quickly commit the layout of the city to your memory:
You buy a cheap, poor quality, cloth bag on the market. You also gather some information about the most important people in town:
Since this settlement is still a de facto military fort there`s no mayor.
Lord-Commander Cornelius the Stern is the administrator of the city. He is a retired general of the imperial army. (Upon retiring he lost his title of "General" but gained the honorific "Lord-Commander") He didn`t want to retire, though, but his peers thought that he was too old to lead armies and forced him to resign. He did this only grudging and only when they allowed him to take some of his soldiers and comrades with him.
He is well past sixty now, but still in good shape. He is known to be rigid and disciplined and sticks to the law at all costs. The people like him because he replaced most of the officials of the town with good men (former soldiers) and because he isn`t corrupt and pretty efficient. Some dislike him, though, because he is unyielding.
He sorely misses his days in the army and whenever bandits threaten travelers he hunts them down himself with his men.
He resides in the Fort.
Magistrate Albrecht Oversees most of the daily matters in Bagrah. He is a lot less stern than the Lord-Commander and willing to compromise, when necessary. He isn`t a bad magistrate, but he isn`t a good one, either.
Apparently he is only allowed to remain the magistrate because he is well liked and has the support of the local workers, which Cornelius doesn`t want to lose.
He resides in the district of the rich.
Sherriff Septimus Sinapis is a close friend of Cornelius and was once his second-in-command. Like Cornelius he is disciplined and diligent, but he is much younger. He fulfills his duty without asking questions, but is well loved by the population because they know that he is a fair man, who can show mercy.
He resides in the Fort, but can often be seen patrolling the streets together with his men.
Pecunius the taxman is also a former soldier of Cornelius- and even older than Cornelius is. He is, without a doubt, very effecient but the people hate him, because he seems deaf to any plea they make.
He resides in the Fort.
Trader Representative Marcus was elected by the merchants of the town in order to represent them. He seems to do his job well, but the common men believe that he is also pretty shady. Cornelius keeps an eye on him, but as of yet hasn`t taken any measures against him.
He lives in the market.
Evoker Belisarius the radiant runs the wizards guildhall. Since most people aren`t even allowed to enter the guildhall not many have any opinions or information about him. Cornelius seems hesitant to call upon his help- but there are no matters which might require his help, anyway, or so it seems.
He resides in the guildhall.
Black Balanar the Mad is a priest, or so he claims. He is often seen preaching in the district of the poor. The Lord-Commander dislikes him, but can`t take any action against him, for the poor people love him well. He offers them solace and, more important, food.
He can be found in the district of the poor.
After buying the bag and obtaining some information you end up in the "
Dank Cellar", a tavern near the market. It is pretty empty, but a few people can be found inside, enjoying a break from working.
