Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. A FPS Medieval combat game
« on: August 19, 2012, 05:22:22 pm »

From the creators of the great sourcemod Age of Chivalry I present you Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.
If you like medieval combat games, this is a must have.

Spoiler: Huge picture (click to show/hide)

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a fast-paced medieval FPS (Slasher with a Multi-player online focus)

WHAT IS CHIVALRY: MEDIEVAL WARFARE?

CHIVALRY: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. We've drawn our inspiration from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart and we want to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like a FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

We made a video explaining the game in more detail:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6GnuCjueong

Features List:

- Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options

- Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action

- Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins

- Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.

- Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more

- Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.

- Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

If this is what I think it is (skipped reading topic, on iPod and dont want it to break) then this was the Age of Chivalry mod for Half Life 2, or the source engine at least. Unless they find a way to get melee working properly I'm not too interested. In AoC and HL2 you basically have a crowbar that hits a pinpoint area right at the crosshair even if you do a wide swing. AoC tried to fix it but could only do so much. It just seemed overall pretty clunky, in fact I don't think I've seen any game get it right. Mount & blade is the best thing out at the moment but even that is pretty clunky, but at least it has a good concept behind it.

Edit: read the text part of the post, and it seems they are pretty vague about the melee combat. Have they figured out a way to get it to work or not? Will it just be like AoC where you click your mouse and your guy just does a predetermined swing?

I do remember reading about the kind of gamemodes and objectives you will have which is pretty neat. In AoC I remember one map where the defenders had to escort prisoners to a chopping block for execution while the attackers had to free the scientists prisoners.

The combat mechanics in this are very complex and realistic. This isn't like a reskinned CoD or CSS knife.

I saw you guys at PAX. The combat mechanics were pretty good and the gameplay was fun. (I've played M&B since vanilla)

Sorry, I should have clarified. I am not part of their team, I am just a huge fan of Age Of Chivalry and now this awesome game.
I searched and noticed there was no topic for it so I felt the need to bring this to the bay12 community.

This already looks a thousand times better than the War of the Roses beta I'm in from the makers of M&B. (Seriously, think Call of Duty mixed with midevil combat)

Taleworlds has nothing to do with WotR, that's made by Fatshark, the guys who made Lead and Gold. This is made by the same guys who made the original Age of Chivalry mod for source/Half-Life 2. You can get the mod for free if you want to try it out, I think it might even be available straight from steam. If not, moddb and gamefront are good places to check

Edit: I think I made a mistake, one moment mistake corrected.
Edit 2: They are having a kickstarter if you havent heard.

Indeed, you can get Age of Chivalry free straight off of Steam. Obviously I think it's worth it, what with being free and also pretty fun. And I've noticed it's got a pretty great community playing it, probably because of the era it's set in, and the controls do need a little bit of getting used to. Nothing complex, but jumping from Day of Defeat, where you use your mouse to aim, shoot, and scroll through weapons to AoC, where your LMB and RMB do individual attacks and your scroll wheel does another (Scroll Up=Thrust) as well as Block and Parry (Scrolling Down and Clicking, though maybe not in that order, it's been a while since I played) is a bit of a shock when you aren't expecting it.

Forget war of the roses, this one is way better and its not made by GORDON VAN DYKE.

Sooo... basically M&B with shinier graphics that will probably keep my craptop from running it. Yeah, looking over your description, that's exactly what it is: M&B that looks pretty. I've already got (obviously) something that scratches that particular itch. Hell, I've also got PVKII if I want FP medieval-era combat. Honestly I'd be tempted to try it as long as it stayed free, but good graphics essentially equals unplayable for me.

I hope the community in this game is better than the one from Age of Chivalry.  Everytime I played Age of Chivalry it was non-stop racial/sexual slurs yelled by screechy 14 year olds.  One of the few games I ended up turning off voicechat altogether.

I enjoyed the gameplay in it though, so I'll probably pick it up anyway.  I did enjoy heaving around my halberds.

Apparently this is out now.  I'm half thinking of picking it up, but if anybody else happens to get it I'd love to hear some impressions.  :)
