Can dragons use breath attacks surrounded by fortifications?
« on: August 19, 2012, 02:57:53 pm »

I've asked this before on version 0.31.25 and the answer was no, they needed a path to the target to use it. Now that the new version is out (I stopped playing when 0.34 came out, starting to play again) I was wondering if it's possible now. I was looking at the raws and you can add tokens to choose targets (TOUCHABLES, LINE_OF_SIGHT) which wasn't in the 0.31 version.

I've tried it in arena mode and it works, but does it also work in fortress mode?

It doesn't have to be a dragon, it could be anything with a breath attack.

I believe the answer is yes, though they won't use it quite as often as they would if they don't have the ability to path to the target.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Yes, yes it does. The range is piss poor, but it works.

Time to build some flamethrower defense towers!

I tried it once with an old fort and a (slightly modded - added tamebility back then) dragon and it burned down all surface vegetation, 3 dwarfs, 2 war dogs and 1 goblin thief

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
