i stopped playing this long ago, before it went f2p.
it has like a dozens different, incompatible apples where like you need that one specific one to make a pie. (this is a pattern for all crafting in this game. just a screw wont do it, you need *that* screw. )
ah, and it has hills, that are just extruded and flattened circles within the landscape - most of the land looks like this.
than again the game has areas, that have so many poligones, that it will make any pc go to a crawl (even pvp zones lol)

long storry short: i really would love to love a 1.person mmo, but this game has countless fun killers that totally spoiled the whole thing for me.

Been playing a bit, and it seems like it might have potential, but the dang thing keeps freezing up randomly.

I've tried:
Adding the program and its updater to my antivirus' exclusion list
Turning the game's graphics to the lowest settings
Setting the game to run windowed instead of full screen
Having the launcher check the game files and defragment the game file system.
Updating my GPU driver to the latest ones (was only a few months behind, but figured it might be the problem)
Updating my sound driver to the latest one
Disabling my sound completely
Sacrificing Pandemix's cat to Armok
Disabling my antivirus and firewall and pretty much every other program running in the background
Enabling the /3GB switch in my boot.ini

And even after all that it's still freezing. Can't figure out what's wrong with the thing. Every other game I have installed plays fine (Tribes Ascend, CK2, Unepic, Star Ruler, Space Rangers 2, Mount&Blade, Evochron Mercenary, Avernum, Starfarer, Sots, etc - everything works fine without a hiccup).

The game's UI just disappears and the game freezes, causing my entire computer to lock up and making me reset it with the power button. Sometimes it takes hours to freeze up, other times it happens within minutes of logging in.

I'm on Windows XP 32 bit, with a Core 2 duo e8600 processor and a geforce GTX 260 graphics card.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to fix it?

They fixed this, most items are just generic. Like you get "Tainted Meat" from mobs, it's universally used in recipes.

They fixed Embry Crossroads, I never really noticed any worse lag in the PvP zones that anywhere else.

Oh, and you have to spend real money to get a skill respec.
You can buy respec injectors ingame, they scale with level, but you don't /have/ to pay IRL money.

Hmm, the freezes seem to be less of a problem out on the open terrain. It's interiors that get me. Mainly the respawn areas, keep freezing up there. But outside and in the city there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Regarding the limit on free accounts - your first "real money purchase" gives you access to global chat, removes the limit on credit storage, and ups your crafting queue from 1 to 3. Plus gives a bunch of special boosters, but they're temporary so I doubt I'll use them any time soon. The funny part is how I was able to get my "real money purchase" to get the first time buyer boost. All it's checking for is the first time you spend G1C, no matter how much G1C you spend. I just went onto their site to the spot where you can earn the credits from participating in their affiliate "special offers" (mostly adware or other scam sites, some subscription services like netflix, etc) and did one of the tiny ones for a mere 20 credits - all it wanted was an email address to sign up to their spam. Entered a temporary email address and presto, 20G1C. Used that to buy one of the cheapo items in the store, and suddenly I'm a valued first time purchaser with less restrictions.  ;D

Well, on my main computer it degrades to less than 1 FPS with a few people on screen. On minimum graphics.
Maybe I'll try it on another computer...

Ohey, this game. If we had some Bay12 people to backup me and my slow (but kinda powerful) sniper-wielding self, I might play this again. Bit hard to do a few missions when your primary gun is not meant for close range combat. I've still got it installed somewhere on here, and I'm still in sector 1. Feel free to make a steam group or something, point it out here, etc. Also Paul, I've had more than 3 things in my crafting queue but I've only done the first purchase thing as well, though that might be different if you're just massing one item type, perhaps?

Matz, turn post-fx off (or named something like that), that fixed it for me.

That was far too many commas, wasn't it. Eitherway, have a picture.

Thats with it off. And everything else. And all draw distances and LODs minimized. And resolution minimized.

Then again, this computer has a single-core (hyperthreaded) [that's some kind of primitive multitasking support making it show up as 2 cores, right?] Pentium 4 processor and 2Gb RAM and a Radeon X300 I think. It... can't really run anything that comes out anymore. I was almost surprised I got as far as I did.

As far as my laptop goes, my graphics (non-)capability is the weakest point of it, 'it' being an Intel HD integrated graphics...thing, while having 4gb ram and a mobile i3 I assume are taking the brunt of the effort off of it, and thus it runs ok. (Magicka on the otherhand, flatout fails to load :/) It drew to a halt in Embry (and anytown south of there, since most are starting towns) during steam release player surge, and lags in Oilville somewhat, but its playable.

And yes, hyperthreading is a thing, and it still happens on plenty of cpus to make them look bigger.

The ironic thing? This is a desktop.

Yes I use five-year-old equipment. The reason: it's free. All the parts that break I replace with similarly-old parts salvaged from junked computers.
Going to University soon, will be borrowing father's backup laptop. Probably much more capable than my PC.

If you want to get into an oldness fight, I could bring back out a 7-year old laptop of ours that takes half an hour to start up (or some other time like that, I don't use it anymore and haven't been bored enough to time it, and if I need to get something off it I use a flash drive/puppy linux combo) and can just barely play GalCiv II on minimum. :P

We still have a 386 in the basement. It still (mostly) works, last time I checked.

Shit, I played the game by pushing rocks around.

I should really get back into this. I'm pretty sure I was building a herd of horses when I stopped.

I should play it a bit at some point. I recently downloaded it and found that I had a sexy motorcycle, but couldn't remember a damn thing about how to play the rest.

Hm, add me to the "probably ought to get back in" list. I stopped playing when I thought it was free but it wasn't actually yet, and I hit the level cap of 10 or whatever rather quickly. As is often the case though, I may have to start a new character just so I know what-all is going on.
