...wait, I thought we just came here. How come we know the people around?

How much of Aqualonia do we know? Any other pubs besides The Smelly Donkey?

Durin's been here for a month getting his office set up.  Enough time to visit the more prominent places but not enough to have a broad knowledge of the city.  If you want to visit other places, let me know and I'll describe what Durin is aware of.

Yep, please do that. If you make a map, I'll (virtually) hug you. ^_^

I'll get to it, but in the meantime you may like to vote on Durin's course of action for now.   :)

If he knows of any poor and crowded pubs where he's likely to encounter the dregs of society, go there. Otherwise ask the barman about them and then go there.

> Get a drink and go over and talk to the woman, giving her the drink
(find out what she's drinking beforehand from the barkeeper and get her that)
ask her if she would be interested in a job and offer the kitty saving task.
Make it sound like the easiest thing and offer 25 AUW.
Convince her that she would make it in this town for quite some time with the money.

Although I must admit it would also be very wise to ask the two people actually working in the woods if they have heard of anything in particular or had any news from the forest or things one should be wary of.

Walde and Gyles are just the two sorts of people we need for this assignment: sober, working class and know their way around the forest. Let's see if they're interested.

The hooded woman also looks promising. She's probably either a criminal or an adventurer. But that also means she's probably outside of our price range. Still might be wise to talk to her.

We'll spend too much on those two. It's much better to get some (almost) free meatshields in the form of drunks.

But I rather loose a little money than loose everything on 2 untrustworthy drunks. We need workers we can rely on. I vote for Grek´s suggestion.

We can always send them ahead of us in the forest and run away if they meet a bad end. ^_^

Opportunity cost, man. If we don't find the cat, we're out an easy 200$ and whatever we might get for having a city elector indebted to us. Even if we pay the two 50$ each, we still come out ahead by 100$. 100$ that we don't get if we hire drunks that don't know their way around a forest and fail to find the cat. That said, we shouldn't actually pay them that much. 10$ a week is already quite generous for part-time work.

Why do you think that non-drunks are going to know their way around the forest? Nobody will miss the drunks if we stumble onto something non-white and non-fluffy, at least.

Talk to the Hooded woman might as well do it then trust this job to drunks and besides she might be actually be able to take care of herself.

They're a woodcutter and a mushroom picker. AKA, two jobs that require you to go out into the woods. If anyone in town knows about the Misty Woods, it's the people that work there.

I agree with Grek. It makes sense to hire locals who will probably know the woods. And if there's anything dangerous they're likely to know that as well, and so we'll be forewarned and can opt to hire drunken meatshields as necessary at that point.
