Hm.. How about 250 points every year, each dwarf, no matter profession, is worth 25, and the higher nobles are worth fifty.  Non-sentient passive creatures are worth 10, non-sentient hostile creatures are worth 20 points.  Sentient passive creatures are worth 20 - 40 depending on the creature, and sentient hostiles are worth 50 - 100 points, with Rocs and Dragons being worth 4000, being more than enough to keep a fortress safe from Armok for a good few years.

I like it. Any future discrepencies can be dealt with when they happen (I.E. "how many points is this Elf princess worth if I chop off her head and throw it in a volcano?"). But I don't like the idea of a flat 250 points, I think the number should escalate somehow. Maybe an overseer gets to decree how many points the next overseer must earn?

Only issue I see with this is in the first couple of years, we'd be scrambling to get enough points to pass.  Possibly every decade the points double?  By then we'd have pissed more than enough people off to have a constant supply, as well as FB and monsters coming from the depths will have been found.

I don't think this would be an issue if the overseer himself is decreeing how many points are to be earned next year. If the overseer of year A knows there is a shortage of dwarves/critters then he won't decree too many points (unless he's an asshole, in which case more fun). Also it's not so bad if not enough points are earned, there will just be a fun punishment for the overseer, to be decided by the other participants of the fortress.

And, It could lead to a mad scramble to get the required points(which, by the way, need a cooler name), where a overseer would be needlessly causing cave ins and killing dwarfs in a desperate scramble to prevent failure.

So, if we merged this with the "co-op megaprojects" idea, then we could do the following:

Megaproject 1: Temple to Armok, must have a suitably gory (magma damage counts as heavy bleeding, fun fact) execution chamber. As this is an entire construction dedicated to Armok, He is pleased enough to waive the sacrifice limit while his glorious holy chambers are being completed.

Megaproject 2: A huge doomsday device that would destroy the majority of the fortress, with foolproof activation. It will be activated when the dwarves fail Armok's glorious designs. Make it very elaborate and completely unstoppable.

Thoughts?

It must have a magma moat and be constructed from obsidian.

Maybe the overseer's own dwarf can be worth a bunch of points, so the overseer can sacrifice himself and relinquish his turn in an emergency if he needs points. I think the points should be called BloodBucks.

No, MagmaMoney. Or Catastrocurrency.

So what do we think about the first two megaprojects I suggested?

Once again we don't need to be discussing specific building plans at this point, just rules. We can talk about megaprojects once we start the fort.

@Goomba
I like the ideas, I must admit.  Though knowing the luck of DF, it will take several years to find obsidian.

@MrWillsauce
I can see that working.  We can also stockpile blood barrels, say for every one dumped, 10-50 Sins of the Damned (How's THAT for a rename) depending on the creature?  We could stockpile early on, and be prepared in case we can't kill enough things.

Well, part of my suggestion was that we suggest a good number of them at the beginning, so that there's a fun struggle to get back on the rails (everyone's dead and I have to make three giant magma cisterns?!). Otherwise, we might get soft and suggest easy stuff for years filled with pain and terror... after all, only Armok can see the future :P

Fair enough.

I think we've got enough stuff thought out to START THIS FORTRESS

We should make a new thread, though. Because this one is more plan-y.
