Why can't I find any embark areas with Flux Stone?
« on: August 18, 2012, 02:38:38 pm »

Okay I've been searching embark points for flux stone in the search prompt and of the ENTIRE map not a single point has flux stone. What the hell?

What type of world did you generate or did you use the advanced generation tools?

Is your mineral scarcity very low? that seems to make flux rarer.

The site finder is broken and glitchy when is comes to flux. Also, sometimes sites say they have no flux when they really do.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Well that's a kick in the balls. And I'm guessing the mineral scarcity being low means there's more, meaning overall less of the flux stones available?

I find the best solutions, as is the solution to most site finder problems, is to simply use the sight finder to find as close of a place as you can to what you want, then using DFHack's "prospect all" command to check and see the actual mineral types present in a site. That way you can be sure that you are going to get iron, flux, or whatever, but it's faster then actually embarking, realizing a site doesn't have what you want, and re-embarking somewhere else.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
