Non-elfy wood-using race
« on: August 17, 2012, 01:22:02 pm »

What kind of classic or non-obscure race can you think of that:
A. Uses primarily wood, and
B. would not be perceived as "elfy" around here?

Something that isn't in vanilla DF, and doesn't use much metal ideally?

Wood = Elfy. Your requirements are simply not possible.

[/joke]

In all seriousness, I have no idea, although I've heard fairies work with wooden items...
Maybe...

Cavemen. Humans with Stone Age technology level.

Lizardmen, since they live at swamps where stone is rare.

Thank you. The lizardman idea needs a bit of work to fit my image, or vise versa, but it will do nicely...

Wouldn't using lots of wood in swamps be slightly problematic?

Maybe a few subtypes...

Gecko--Dunno. They'd climb if they could.
Chameleon--Slow, but can hide. Probably have grasping feet.
Frilled--Have a frill; good at fleeing and social skills.
Iguana--Probably rage-prone.
Monitor--Big guys, strong but dumb.
Glass--Snake-shaped.
All would have prehensile tails, which I know isn't realistic, but it's cool.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Planet Of The Apes (1968), but less advanced.

Didn't the Planet of the Apes society mostly use adobe for construction, or something like it?

They probably did, been awhile since I last checked, but just put them in a forest environment and make them a bit more primitive.

I imagined some kind of caste society of lizard people when I saw one of the ideas floated here. That actually sounds kind of badass.
