Just perusing my monthly gaming magazine (PC Powerplay, Australia, issue 206) when I noticed Top 100 Games of All Time list.

Dwarf Fortress placed 28th, I am content.

I think this is pretty impressive considering that most people I know have no idea what DF is. If only some popular American magazines could get their heads tightened and stop talking about Minecraft and CoD.

Also, it seems that said gaming magazine knows its stuff, so would you mind if I asked what ranked 1st?

1st was Deus Ex
2nd was Minecraft
3rd was Civilizations IV (yes, I spell it with a z out of respect for the devs)

In whole, I think the listers knew their shit. But there were some things I disagreed with.

Deus ex is a little overrated and I don't play minecraft because I play df, but civ iv definitely deserves to be on that list.

No, I think Deus Ex was a really good game (not worth 1st though). Same with civ4, I think it probobly deserved that spot, but the fact that Minecraft was up there disgusted me. Its so overated its in space.

I mean honestly, were are the games that actuly revolutionized gaming? Were is Wolfinstein 3D? Doom? Super mario? Command & Conquer? FF1-7? Fucking X-COM? You know, the classics that actuly helped these overated games exist? If I had a top 100 list of the best games, it would be 95% old games, 5% REALLY good new ones. The people that wrote this, yep, im going to say it, are complete and utter idiots.

Damn I feel old now.

Probobly somewere below Minecraft and Left4Dead. Like HOLY SHIT, 2012 must be real! And its starting now!

Im more worried about the early Command & Conquer games, the ones I grew up with, but, just by looking at the top 3, these people seem to care nothing for games that are not AAA or are made before 2006, so dont get your hopes up.

One of the things that actually helped pull me into DF was the fact that I saw it on a list of "Best free games of all time" on Yahoo back in like 2006.

Ok:

1) This is a PC Magazine, so no Zelda or whatnot (should've clarified, 100 Best PC Games of All Time)
2) It is a list of best games, so they were not looking for how revolutionary games were, but simply how good they are (although these are usually both closely tied). Although everyone IS entitled to their opinion, the authors sincerely tried to be objective with it. So don't bash them too much...
3) The list went:

31. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
30. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
29. Diablo III
28. DF
27. Hitman: Blood Money
26. EVE Online
25. Mass Effect Trilogy

Did Diablo 2 place above Diablo 3? It bloody well better've. Diablo 2 was seminal, while Diablo 3 is just sinking into the quagmire of bland fantasy games.
