I think this is pretty impressive considering that most people I know have no idea what DF is. If only some popular American magazines could get their heads tightened and stop talking about Minecraft and CoD.

Also, it seems that said gaming magazine knows its stuff, so would you mind if I asked what ranked 1st?

Of course not:

1st was Deus Ex
2nd was Minecraft
3rd was Civilizations IV (yes, I spell it with a z out of respect for the devs)

In whole, I think the listers knew their shit. But there were some things I disagreed with.

One of the things that actually helped pull me into DF was the fact that I saw it on a list of "Best free games of all time" on Yahoo back in like 2006.

Did Diablo 2 place above Diablo 3? It bloody well better've. Diablo 2 was seminal, while Diablo 3 is just sinking into the quagmire of bland fantasy games.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  DIII doesn't even need to be on the damned list period. And DII needs to be top 20ish.

Im more worried about the early Command & Conquer games, the ones I grew up with, but, just by looking at the top 3, these people seem to care nothing for games that are not AAA or are made before 2006, so dont get your hopes up.

Meincraft and Deus Ex are not AAA, or even AA (Meincraft is indie), Deus Ex was made in 2000 and Civilization IV in 2005. 4th and 5th were made in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

So yes, I think the listers did a damn good job of combining the old and the new.

Diablo 3 is pretty poorly designed, IMO.  4 out of 5 classes are constantly referred to as busted at some point or other by some player or other, and the game is based on "Good Gear or Die!"

The synergy skills implemented in Diablo 2 works much better, with less stress over spending 20 million gold on a good belt or something. Even Torchlight's skill system works better, with a combination of skill points and weapon damage.

Inferno tier D3 is basically a rage based economic farming simulator where the main economic resource is slaughtering various demons to find and sell *Rare Pig-Tail Sock* for absurd gold to buy another *Rare Pig-Tail Sock* for even more absurd gold. No fun here.

Farming for hours on end because you need better gear to get further or else you're stuck seems a major design flaw.

The first Deus Ex was a AAA title at the time it came out, Civ4 is a AAA title, and although Minecraft started out indie, it got too huge too fast. So many people know about that game now that it might aswell be AAA. I would bet you all my money that if Minecraft wasint well-known, it wouldent have even placed.

Also, Diablo II didint place but Diablo III did? 2012 is real!

Looking at the list from last year, DF went from 26 to 28.

Diablo 2 was at 25.

#2 belongs to Digdug, followed closely by Zaxxon. Also, why is civilization IV above master of magic?

i think DF deserves a higher spot , because it has so much realistic content and its for free .

DF is good and all, but truth be told it's not the best. So far anyways, for an unfinished game it's still my favourite game in existence, and 28 is pretty damn good. But why do we need to valuate games on the opinions of others?

And finally, from this point forward no Top 100 Games Ever list should ever be missing Dwarf Fortress, and if you can't see that, then you're an idiot and you need to go away and stop ruining this hobby.

Diablo II was only good post 1.10, before that it has some major issues, (duping, ith, bots, exct.) Diablo III hasn't had years and years and an expansion to smooth out its edges yet. The reason why DIII is a bad game is RMAH. RMAH makes it impossible to enjoy casual play without spending money, and the fact that they arn't banning the foreign gold farmers like mad is because they make money off of every transaction that takes place, with a minimum charge in there they want the prices to drop so more people will buy the items leading to increased revenue. DIII had the potential to be an awesome game, but blizzard took everything they learned from DII, threw it out the window, and tried to turn it into Free To Play WOW, with a way for them to still get rich off of it. Removal of the ladder system and the horribly low level cap and new skills system just made it an MMO, no RPG needed.

anyways enough of that rant. How is Civ IV on there but Civ V not. Civ V is such a vastly better game in terms of not being its younger brother's slightly upgraded clone. It actually changed and improved gameplay elements?

I'm wondering where FO:NV ranked on the list, if at all. I love playing RPG's but so few of them offer you actual choices when it comes to what your doing, They are either too sand boxy or too structured. I felt that NV actually gave you options while keeping a story going, and it let you fall into a role as you wanted.

Last year they ranked Oblivion and Marrow wind on there, and while i do love the games, they were horribly gimped by the fact that you couldn't roleplay your character, you had to build your character as you were playing because of the horribly broken leveling system.  Is skyrim on the list at all this year?

As for Dwarf fortress being on the list... well.. putting an alpha game on a list is stupid. Not that I don't love and enjoy this game, but its not really anywhere near being completed yet, and your judging a games potential not what the game actually is? Because while fun right now, but its suffers from such horrible bugs and UI that third party programs are almost required to play. Now your rating the game based on third party content?

Contrary to popular belief, there are those amongst us who play DF in its purest, macro inducing sense. Third party programs are a meh.
