A guestion regarding ropes/chains
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:36:04 am »

So, if I construct a restraint so that whatever is assigned to it stands on a lever controlled floor hatch/bridge and then pull the lever, will the creature fall one z-level down and "hang" in there? Or will it be released? Or teleported to the tile with the restraint?

I have no idea, but this must be tried.

The problem you're going to run into though is the thing may not stand on the available square next to the restraint. It can stand on the same square as restraint itself.

I had this problem when I was trying to execute a vampire a while ago. It took months for it to stand on the spike square even when it was set to a very specific burrow that did not include the restraint square. I was beginning to wonder if it knew what was up...

Let me put it this way: Currently, chains work via mind control. So no, it won't work.

If it only falls 1 Z-level, it might remain attached (since it's still within the 3x3x3 cube), but if it falls more than 1 Z-level it'll definitely be released.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Wow, excellent! I'll test it first though, since people seem to disagree with that. Or can more people verify/prove false?

If two people say two different things, and one of those people is Quietust, then the other person is wrong. ;)

If you could hang animals live from the ceiling via rope-drop, doing so would already be the babyfarm Gold Standard, I'm sure.
