were-thingy attack

well my troops bravely killed the were-gecko that attacked, now the only problem is it managed to bite one of mt brave warriors, im wondering what to do, kill him? chain him up? (how would i do this?) let him run unobstructed through my fort for FUN?

and thing i should know?

I say set up a second barracks area that you can seal off from the rest of the fortress, and introduce some other soldiers to him, armored over everything vital but stripped of weapons (don't want them to kill him).  Try to gradually change your entire military into were-geckos, then keep them all at the sealable barracks, sealed when the full moon comes.

Were-things are healed when they change.  This means, for example, that a soldier who loses a leg in a battle he survives will be crippled for at most a month before it grows back, if he's a were-thing.

You do have to be careful with your wounded though, as it's rather easy for a wounded soldier to be accidentally diverted to the hospital and end up changing in there instead of in your barracks.

Were-things aren't so bad. Changing resets hunger, thirst, and injuries, so itr's a lot harder for them to die.

I would put all of the beds your hospital in individual rooms with lockable doors, so if your soldiers are injured and carried into the hospital they can be isolated easily.

Has anybody ever attempted an all werething fortress? I know werebeings don't attack werebeings of the same type.

It's possible that while werebeasts are transformed they no longer count as "part" of your fortress, resulting in a "crumbled to the end" if everyone is transformed. I don't know if anybody has ever actually infected all of their fortress in order to test it though.

In the event you could run an all werebeast fortress you would need to be careful of one thing though, the fact that the transformation causes dwarves to drop everything they have equipped. As such you would probably end up fighting off a fair amount of bad thoughts from the lack of clothing when they all turn back.

If you had a vampire locked in a room forever and the rest of the fortress were werebeasts, the fortress wouldn't crumble when they all changed would it?

Vampires don't count for that either, but you could probably make a pod for one dwarf with all the labors enabled he'll need to take care of himself and give him a tiny farm + a well.  You'll probably want some sort of contingency plan in place in the event he gets moody.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure vampires count as dwarves for Fortress Crumbling.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure vampires count as dwarves for Fortress Crumbling.

Maybe it changed, but after vampires came out and people were performing, uh, 'science' with blood wells, I thought I remembered people talking about how they were keeping one or two normal dwarves around.  Maybe I'm mistaken.

Excellent, so I was right. That means we can seal a vampire away in a 1x1 room (it doesn't matter how insane he gets) forever, far away from danger to ensure the survival of the fort. Meanwhile, everyone else can be weresheep or whatever, giving them enhanced regenerative properties. Also, what happens if someone is cursed with vampirism and becomes a werebeast?

That means we can seal a vampire away in a 1x1 room (it doesn't matter how insane he gets)

Are you sure about that?  I thought the berserk flavor of insane no longer counted the dwarf as a member of the fortress.
