Uh. Maybe make a list of natural resources present at each site (i.e. I have magma, Fortis has high mountains and so on)? Because having a magma trap without magma as a requirement is just silly.

Also, can I postpone the picking of traits? I really don't know what to do with them right now.

Boiling oil / water? Really, it's just a hot stuff trap. Surroundings have no ingame effect.

Self: Research a life magic spell to stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain. (Primarily as a reward for success to increase loyalty.)
2 apprentices: Improve my wall tech.
Trader, 2 regulars: Set-up an illegal business in the nearby port town, probably as a fence, with $1000 seed money.

Oh come on. That was a horrible start.

Regulars try to gain money.

Brigade try to hunt down the politician who backstabbed me. No one crosses our organisation.

Apprentice Research magic engineering.

Myself try to set up a illegal business.

Trader try to bribe another politician.

((Always include bodyguards when setting up illegal businesses, especially when there's start-up capital involved.))

Surroundings have no ingame effect.
But why? :( It's stupid. We should have advantages and disadvantages stemming from our base placement and race. Having the only differences between players being flavor takes all the beauty out of the game.

That's what traits were meant for.

Also, there are race bonusses and minusses.

Still stupid. Why should we decide the 'cost' and type of our own benefits (especially considering how limited they would be due to cost) instead of you inferring them from our descriptions?

To reduce the strain on the GM. There are quite a lot of semi hidden factors already. Besides, your surroundings will have an impact on for example, which heroes are sent by the forces of good to attack you.

Actually Dariush theres lots of reasons why we shouldnt get freebies. EVER. Reduced GM strain is one thing. Level playing field is another.

Keep in mind there doesnt currently appear to be anything preventing us from acquiring new traits later.

Self, Apprentice: Research Mundane Engineering (Focus is Defensive structures. So ..Walls for now?)
4 Regulars, Steal.

*sigh* So maybe at least let players pick any number of free traits (both positive and negative) that you would later balance? Because paying money for having mountains in your base is just exceedingly dumb. Also, what about that racial bonuses/maluses? Also, will we need to feed ourselves and our minions, provide housing and so on?

1. Stuff like these allow minmaxing, and are extremely hard to balance.(Player A makes action X completely imposible and gets a tower of doom)

2. Mountains are jsut regular mountains. If you want something special, you got to get a trait.

3. Those are in.

4. No, not going to go that complicated. Pop cap is based on infamy.

And that is a problem how? In an optimally designed game a player cannot simply throw out an ability to do something without suffering consequences.
