Also, various sprockets, cogs and similar.

Yes, assorted supplies would be quite useful. I say we buy various supplies, get to know the watchman, and then head home for a little nighttime graveyard raiding.

Hmm. Just realized how odd of a statement that was.

Could we use our knowledge of Medicine to perhaps kill this clocksmith, steal his face and therefore gain access to all his goods?

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

Inquire into any maladies currently afflicting the villagers, and spread the word that we will be treating them at a point some time in the future. (Preferably after we get some practice with corpses and captured animals).

>Obtain clock made out of red, silver-lined ivory.
Wat.

Also, various sprockets, cogs and similar.
You ask the man if you could purchase some crafting supplies.
He looks vaguely amused by the request, and asks you what exactly you are looking for. He does not usually sell mix-bags of cogs and sprockets, though he could probably round up some of his scraps and sell it to you for a few pounds.

Could we use our knowledge of Medicine to perhaps kill this clocksmith, steal his face and therefore gain access to all his goods?
You stroke the man's face, pondering the possibility of replacing yours with his.
This makes him uncomfortable.

Inquire into any maladies currently afflicting the villagers, and spread the word that we will be treating them at a point some time in the future. (Preferably after we get some practice with corpses and captured animals).
You are currently in town trying to decide what to buy from this Clocksmith chap.

An exercise which proves extraordinarily difficult! Really now, you should make a purchase or leave this fine gentleman's boutique.

Ah!

You ask for a simple pocket-watch. The man nods, and shows you a collection. You spend sufficient time admiring each as not to insult him, then pick one at random. Ten pounds, he asks for, and ten pounds you pay. The watch is carefully wrapped in cloth and placed in a little wooden box, and handed to you with a respectful nod.

Pocket watch acquired. £10 spent.

So. Still in town, now what. You remind yourself that you planned to visit the cemetery. But that should probably wait until dark. Until then, you could do some more shopping?

Go to pharmacy!
You visit the Napothecary. Bundles of herbs hang from the rafters, the shelves are lined with strange beings preserved in jars, and bottles of ointments and pills are set in racks. Incense is burnt in a bowl on one side of the store, yet blown out the open window on the other.

The man behind the counter recognizes you, and nods amicably. With a subtle nod indicates that what his customers purchase here and what they use it for is none of his business, and none of the Institute's.
He also says this out loud, in case you didn't get the message.

Stroke this mans face as well. So the other stroking will not seem odd and out of place.

Proceed though town, stroking the face of everyone you meet.
