Ah, Medicine! What wonders the human body holds! What miracles can be wrought by the application of its study! The blood-stained knife reveals whole new worlds with every slice, the bone-saw re-shapes the very nature of our being, a well-made prosthesis turns a humble arm into a glorious instrument of death!
An inexperienced surgeon may cure afflictions of every sort, and learn the nature of the human body. As his knowledge grows, he can turn from study and repair to invention and improvement. With Steamworks, man may be melded with machine! With Zoology, man may be given wings, to soar through the skies!! With Fysicks, a skilled surgeon might even revive the dead!!!

Medicine is a useful trade, which the Church and Crown have difficulty opposing. Application relies on a steady stream of victims- but the results can be astounding!

Mechanics!

Call not the Mechanical Engineer humble; lo, were not the first of the Natural Philosophers inclined towards Mechanics? Did Archimedes not design the screw that bears his name? In these modern times, Mechanics can perform far greater feats. Towering steam engines consume mountains of coal, but produce more power than a horde of stampeding horses; fine clockwork can replicate the thoughts of man; mills produce goods at a rate unheard of outside of legend.
An inexperienced Mechanic may yet produce powerful devices; experience merely allows greater refinement and complexity. He requires little in the way of rare materials; metal and wood are plentiful, yet may result in everything from a water-pump to a land-ship.

Mechanics is a powerful, simple Science, with little material costs- though inventions must be constructed of steel and timber once designed, which can require extensive time and facilities.

Medicine it will be then, for bringing the dead back to the realm of life is a miracle indeed. Imagine our humble family home being gazed upon by the masses as a font of life. And we would be revered as a miracle-worker!
