Gentlemanne of Natural Philosophie!
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:45:57 am »

You are a Fine Gentlemanne, learned in the ways of Natural Philosophie.
You find yourself in a predicament!

You have just returned from a brief staye in the North Werkshire Institute for Madmen, to find your humble estates in ruins!
It would appear that the Institute, as well as withdrawing your Licence to Science, took it upon themselves to repair the damage caused by your experiments with your money, and to dissemble your wondrous lab! On top of that, your family accountant appears to have absconded to the Colonies with most of your remaining wealth.
This shall not do!
This shall not do at all!!
In fact, you consider this an Injustice!!!
Indeed, this situation is such as to inspire a need for Vengeance!!!!
They called you Mad! But you shall show them!! You shall show them all!!! Ahahaha!!!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

But firste, you must draft yourself a new License to Science, and build yourself a new lab. Fortunately, the Institute did not find your secret stash of Equipment and Books.
Now, before you set quill to parchment, what was your primary Scientific Interest again?

Or we could learn Physicks so that we may better understand the fundamentals behind botany.

New Nuke19's game? Hurray!
Ahem. I will ask you to spell my name correctly; Nine point Thirteen is the suffix, not nineteen. Nineteen is a suffix for peasants and ruffians.

Botany

Ah, Zoology! What wondrous flora adorns the earth, and what wondrous fauna romps across it! How many Gentlemenne have earned Fame and Fortune from a trip to the Colonies, where the exotic lifeforms there inhabiting have revealed to them the secrets of life and deathe sooner than any alchemist's crucible ever would? Study of Zoology provides a poison to cause any ailment, and a medicine to cure it!
Low level Zoology features the study and application of local wildlife, which can nevertheless prove useful to an aspiring Scientist. As one gains experience, stranger beasts from further shores must be acquired and experimented upon- dissected, multiplied, modified- producing vicious vines to vatch the lab, massive mastadons to maul malignants, and fertile fields to feed them all!

Truly a useful Science with versatile applications from the humblest beginnings to the most magnificent endings.

Of course. We have a major interest in Biology! The study of living things is of the utmost importants to a raising mad Philosphierer...er.
What? You speake in tongues, sir, surely you mean Zoology? Or perhaps Medicine is more up thine alley?

Or we could learn Physicks so that we may better understand the fundamentals behind botany.
Fysicks! Lo, the fundamental forces of nature are laid bare 'fore the wisdom of man! Who has not marvelled at the wonders it produces? What Science is not improved by the application of Harnessed Lightning? It makes chemicals broil quicker, beasts jump back to life, and steam engines spin with a fervour unmatched!
A Fysickist is an expert mathematician, and can predict the outcome of experiments afore they happen- saving much in time and energy! He can, with practice, build devices which defy the very laws he studies, soaring through the skies, burning water, liquifying earth! And his holy grail, the study and application of Harnessed Lighting, can make all matter slave to his whims!

Fysicks is best parterned with another, more practical Science, as it provides the method, but not the means, of performing many wondrous actions. But no Science will not benefit from this partnership, and Fysicks is the subtlest Science to study!

Or we should learn mathematics, which is the basis for all knowledge.

Anyway, on a more serious note. Fysicks, then zoology

Think of the potential clockwork creations!
Clockwork, Steamwork, and other such feats of precision engineering fall under the heading of Mechanics.

Or we should learn mathematics, which is the basis for all knowledge.
A sound understanding of mathematical principles is, to some degree, required of all Natural Philosophers. The most modern breakthroughs in Mathematics are contained under the umbrella of Fysicks.

Of course, our primary choice is Science. Our secondary choice can be Philosophy.

Not like it matters, but hey. Gotta PTW somehow.

Indeed, indeed. Fysicks it is!

You pen a most wonderful if blotchy License to Science. From a hidden chamber behind the wine-rack in the sub-basement you retrieve your books and apparatus; levers and pendulums and knick-knacks and doo-dads, a rather primitive hand-cranked electro-staticizer, and tomes of tables and references and what not and so forth. You clear some space on a dusty table in the second dining room, and arrange your devices and books upon the ancient woodwork in a pleasing manner.

You then set off to acquire the tools of your secondary discipline.
Which was...
