Mordekhai spent some time looking around. He was probably going insane now, what with his mind creating a fake version of Nep to comfort him. He decided to talk to the figment of imagination anyway.
Sure, sure...But we didn't have time to know each other better. I was trying to...get away from some of my former memories, maybe. Trying to make sure to like you for what you are, not because you reminded me of another girl. I was not given enough time with you...I was just too slow.

He wondered why he was talking to himself, though. Maybe to feel better, or release some of his self-loathing.

The voice seemed to gain strength and clarity-maybe because he decided to converse with it/her/himself.

"Well, I sure didn't want to die, either-I'd have liked to know you.

But it's a bit late for regrets.

And, you're really not going insane-though I know how that must sound coming from me. You took a part of me to live on in you. You found something in me, worthy of consideration and respect. That's what I am.

I know we ran out of time...but that's Life. You can hold yourself down as much as you like for what happened, but in the end, I chose to be there. I chose to fight. It was actually the first time in my life I'd ever actually been fighting for a cause I chose. I died free-I guess you never heard my story, and I'm sorry for that, but one day you'll understand.

So, why do you blame yourself for what happened? You think you can try and save everyone, all the time?

I hate to be a cynic and possibly making a personal double entendre, but that's the very definition of insanity-doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results each time."

I just didn't want to become like my mentor. He lived as an exemplary crusader, never wavering, never doubting and never looking back.

Then one day he discovered that he was old and all his friends and companions had died while he fought and survived, thanks to armor and skill. He told me not to suffer the same fate as him.

A warrior, perfect to fight the eternal war, but dead inside. He told me survive just for the matter of surviving wasn't enough if you couldn't save your friends...

But I get your point. Thank you Nephtym...And how are you dealing with my figment of Eria? She was quite cheerful herself.
he asked with a smile.

"Elf, could I know your name?" Akari continued, looking at Aegnor. "Pretty forgetful of me for not asking earlier...Can we all go together when we see them?"

She really didn't know Elven customs, but the idea of the whole group going to see their dead seemed like a better idea than going alone, just because of the spirits' presence.

Staring back at the ceiling, she spoke. "Nepthym, Shruik (please tell me I didn't say your names wrong)...are you two there?"

The armored man stood by quietly, listening to the chatter for a bit.

"Your passed on friends sound like brave souls. It's a shame that they couldn't be here with us. If ya don't mind, I would like to tag along and pay my respects as well, for helping save as many passengers on that ship as they did."

The figure passes off the pile of towels and sheets to a passing nurse with a silent nod, which was returned with a small smile, and he turned to face the group, patting the shoulder of Akari gently.

"If they are listening, then I'm sure they will hear ya better at the memorial service. Ya all seem a bit unsteady on your feet, what with being out of it for two days and all, so I think I'll stay with ya all so ya don't get in anymore trouble for the time being. Mah name is Kael, what are yours?"

Whisper, whisper...

"We've got a lot in common, actually-she's almost the person I might have been, if things had turned out otherwise...but I guess there's always the next life. Or maybe this one. Depends it you believe Souls mate eternal.

So like I was saying, part of me being here is to help you survive-your Mentor, there's a part of him too here, you know-he was right...just surviving isn't enough. You've got to live.

As much as I enjoy all this attention, pining over me for the rest of your life isn't exactly living-I want you to move on, Mordekhai. It's going to hurt-you'll be guilty about it for a long time-but it's the only way.

...I liked your smile, you know. I could have learned to love you, just for that. Others will too. So just smile again, all right?

...

Now, here comes the tricky part-a bit out of left field, if you get the term, which you should. You're going to have fight a lot more, Mordekhai-we all know it, even if you haven't admitted it-this is bigger than a half baked Hijacking of an airship, bigger my little life that was bled to stop it. And you're going to be right in the middle of the storm. More friends are going to go down, more likely than not-that's the cost. That's the price for trying to change the world for the better. The only thing you can do is to accept those stakes, and all that comes in the wager.

So, I'm going need you to be strong. I'll be here to help you, as much as I can...but most of what's going to happen is on you.

No pressure or anything. Now, why don't you go talk to that nice man instead of chatting with ghosts in your head?"
The voice said playfully, winking out.

With that, the presence is Mordekhai's mind grew...restful, and resolute. Perhaps mirroring his own soul, if the Gods be merciful.

The voice that spoke to Akari was weaker than Mordekahi-it almost sounds like Akari herself.

"...in a way...but I'm not the one you need to talk to."

((OOC: Now, I'm going to tag out and let Zako get some RP in, since he's still playing. :P
Expect my presence very infrequently, unless requested.))

"Akari. Akari Talria," she replied, glad that the man wasn't commenting on the obvious changes from a normal human. "Mother's side was my first name, Father's was my last. I'm a mage, or...how you humans say it."

"I wonder if Nephthym likes something similar to that banner which she always carried around. Does anyone know what Draconians eat, by the way? Kael, you look like what they call a 'knight'. What are you doing in this hospital?

"Aren't there any crusades against the dangers of the world which your lieges fight in?"

~~~
"...in a way...but I'm not the one you need to talk to."
She glanced around, before whispering to herself. "I- alright...sorry for intruding."
Was that Nephthym? Or Shruick? She didn't know. Spirits were said to take on the guise of the speaker's voice, just because they can. Or more preferably, to not cause any unintentional harm...She'd bet this was one of the dead.
"Whoever you are, I'm sorry for what happened, ok? I...couldn't save the ship, including the engines. I tried my best in warning the rest, but...well, I couldn't even repay my saviors."
She calmed down and took a lilt in her mental voice. "Thanks for talking to me, by the way. You spirits have been my closest friends. Hey, I know. I'll go help Mordekhai and that Elf, and probably the other female I saw earlier! Surely they can make use of another traveling companion! I mean, you didn't mind my company anyway, right?
"Erm, that was hypothetical."
Kael chuckled and shook his head.
"Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not a knight, you'd have to be human for that."
He reaches up and takes off his helmet, showing that he's a troll of all things, although a remarkably well groomed and somewhat human styled one. He points to a tattoo under one of his eyes.
"I'm a ta'lunkcha, a pilgrim in the human language, and one that's done half his journey at that. Technically, mah full name and title in the human language is Pilgrim Kael Jungothr, but I like to be called Kael for short. It's not as intimidating to people as the whole thing. As for crusades, I don't really know of any recent ones, but I think that we've got more pressing concerns than the religious dedications of the zealots and their ilk. Sky pirates and a mystery cult whose leader uses the mark of sereesa on her weapons would be one of these."
Kael walks over and sit on the bed next to Akari, the bed sagging under his weight.
"It's nice to meet you by the way. What were you doing on that ship anyway? Going to visit someone or something?"
((While we're still in intense dialogue mode... :P))
For a moment, it would seem as if a dull haze shadowed the room. The other voices still clear, yet one weak, hoarse voice seems to sound from upwards, one with far less clarity than the former mysterious voice. It echoes around the room, yet it only falls on Akari's ears.
"Hm? A musing on a little pub joke from my hometown, and yet it falls on a living soul's ears?" the voice pauses as the weakening echoes reverberate, "The forces of the afterlife have such strange whims. Yes, I am Shruick, and I died trying to save you and the ship. Don't let it weigh too heavily on you, though." The voice hesitated on the last sentence, as if in contemplation.
Before long it returns with a more stern tone, "I'd prefer not to intrude on the living's minds for too long, but for as long as I am heard I suppose I have but one piece of advice to give, should you hear it."
"I'd prefer not to intrude on the living's minds for too long, but for as long as I am heard I suppose I have but one piece of advice to give, should you hear it."
Like I said to the other voice -- now I guess is Nephthym -- I'll say the same to you.
Hit me :D
I'm alright with talking with spirits. They're more open that humans...you know. Most humans don't like me because of...well, my features, to say it bluntly. But enough about me. How does it feel to be truly in the spirit world? I've never felt going there, despite Mother saying that she came from that place. Natural spirits and all...
Wait, you said advice?
"It's nice to meet you by the way. What were you doing on that ship anyway? Going to visit someone or something?"
Akari snapped out of her moment of intrapersonal dialogue at the troll's words. She was surprised to see that the man was a troll, but- the height sort of gave him away, now that she thought about it.
"It was my job. I worked on the ship as an Engine Operator, not that I knew much about mechanics and all, but I needed something for sustenance. And work. She looked at Mordekhai before lowering her voice. "Most people don't like to talk to me, given how I look like. Humanoid, and...something they've never seen before."
She stroked the tip of her tail before resting her hand beneath her head.
"I am human though, technically.
Mordekhai smiles, resolute. His mind is a bit clearer now, and he feels better. Talking to himself only encouraged him further; there was no need to dive into self-loathing when there were still things to do.
More would die, sure. Maybe he would be the next one, and then he would hopefully meet with Nepthym. And even if he wasn't...Well, he could not bear to falter and fall deep into sorrow eveytime a companion died.
Pay them respect and mourn them, but try to focus on the living, he supposed...
Upon noticing he had been ignoring Aegnor for some time, the crusader pats the elven healer's back.
"We are all going to pay our respects, then move on. I'm sure we'll get to the truth, sooner or later...Also, I think I need to do something I should have done earlier."
He then sits down on Akari's bed by her side, smiles and starts to scratch behind her ears much like he would do to a cat. He hopes she wasn't offended by the action, but it was a thing he had in his mind before that dreaded combat...
"Bah, being human is boring. You're beautiful as you are."
His eyes shift their gaze as he turns towards the man who had recently entered, focusing on him even as Mord keeps petting Akari.
"My name is Mordekhai Sarvedon, pleased to meet you."
A couple strange echoes sound from behind and to your sides, one after the other. If they were all coming from one source you'd be sure it was someone trying to stifle a laugh, "Humans can be awful pretentious sometimes, but so would anyone if they were a proud member of the most populous race in the lands. Those from my hometown were seen as an odd bunch by outsiders, living freely and in good spirits with draconians like myself." The voice seemed to breathe a sigh in the confusing echoes it speaks in, "I would love to indulge your questions, but you will have much to attend to soon and I would rather not take up your time."
The echoes grew bold and dark as they coalesced towards the ceiling, "Should you ever meet a man that goes by the name Ilsow Larrastiov, or anyone who works with him, I urge you to be on your guard." The voice grew cold and stressed, as if attempting to recall a gruesome memory, "The rumors surrounding him have been various, some call him down on his luck and fruitlessly attempting to rally men to his banner, others describe him as a hidden king sitting atop a shadowed mountain of gold, but I'll tell you what I know he is-" The voice began to feel coated in venom with each word, "A liar, murderer, thief, leader of broken husks of men, and perhaps worst of all- a traitor." A long pause ensued as the echoes faded away in the room, a couple echoes sounded as if the voice wanted to say more, but fell silent.
The feeling of uncertainty returned as Shruick's voice faded into her memory. She was sure it was Shruick's voice, but was unsure if the motive was right. While spirits did carry special sources of information, they were also influenced by their emotions in life or by their experiences. It was rare, in her knowledge, of a spirit acting on it's own course in decision against whatever they had experienced in the mortal world.
Regardless, Akari's statement was proven, or perhaps broken when Mordekhai approached and began scratching her behind the ears.
An innate feeling of wanting to bite the man's hand came, before being replaced by a sense of calmness and comfort -- happiness, or something akin to a diluted sense of euphoria as the man rubbed the spot gently, tickling the nerves with his touch.
It was a common fact that the ears were a sensitive place, despite not being made of bone, but moreso in those who had possessed animalistic features.
"Thank you Mordekhai," she said, half of it meant to his friendly gesture of calming her.
"Also, just so you know. Thank you for personally saving me along with the rest from being sacrificed. Knowing how the cultists act, now, I'm glad I wasn't done in to one such as Jacelyna. That bitch."
Stupid cultists and their sacrificial shenanigans.
"Same to ya, crusader. Ya shouldn't be so hard on yourself by the way, let alone obsess about the past. What's done is done, and noone can change that, so there's no point in worrying about it. Ya'll only upset yourself and others if you confine yourself to the past."
Seeing that the bed was straining somewhat underneath the considerable weight upon it, Kael stands up, the bed springing back into place after he does so. He smiles and chuckles again.
"I wouldn't think too down on yourself for being human either. There's definately benefits to being human, I can tell ya now. Ya'll won't really realise what they are until ya spent time living among other races, where they'll really stand out."
Kael walks around with his helm under his arm, straightening sheets and sidetables of empty beds for a minute, still talking casually.
"I suggest ya'll don't strain yourselves too much. You've been through quite a bit, and the crash was pretty bad and banged ya'll up pretty good. If you get into trouble, the nurses will get cross and they can get mighty nasty when they're angry. I've got things to do right now, but I'll come with ya when the nurses tell ya that the memorial is ready. I'd like to meet these heroes that were your friends. See ya then."
He walks off, putting his helm back on and picking up some dropped flowers to put in a vase which he passes, quietly whistling a tune to himself.
Z&D: The Fall of a God, Turn 50: Conversing
« Reply #643 on: October 13, 2012, 04:34:19 am »
Zealots and Demons, Turn 50:  Conversing
Quote from: Zako
Talk to people
You have conversed successfully, letting others know your thoughts and ideas.
Quote from: Tiruin
Erm. Remember details on that cult, how many other people were sacrificed, if any, and what was I doing before that scene in the Cathedral. Was Jacelyna connected to them?
[6] You recall details on every cult, church, brotherhood, and criminal organization you've ever encountered and mash it into one memory.  No wait, that would be absolutely silly.  The mage was simply a profane demon-worshipper, it's odd but you find it every now and then.  Most of them have been killed off now with the lack of demons flowing into the world.
Before the whole drama started onboard the Stormrider, you were working with engine maintenance, which is equal parts care for the mechanical parts and continually enchanting the magical crystals.  That's why they took you on you think... you were able to both.  Or maybe it was about 'increasing diversity' or something.
Jacelyna, from what little you know of her was the true cultist... You gather that she worshipped Sareesa, who (you believe) is dead.  Still... something was guiding her hand, and it was a powerful force whatever it was.  Personally you'd like to investigate further, but enclaves devoted to a dead goddess are relatively hard to find.  Rumors persist of a large temple in the Deserts, but you find that unlikely, given that Sareesa was never known to have spent much time in that part of the world, and also the Desert just being completely unsuitable for a large temple of the nature you've heard described.
Quote from: Ochita
Eat food
You eat your given food marvelously.
Quote from: Callath
Read the Letter.
[5]  You break the seal and read the letter, it is written in a coarse sort of cursive, but you can make it out fairly well.
Mordekhai,
I need a report on what occurred on the Z.C.A.S. Stormrider.  Orders came from the Inquisitor to keep all passengers and crew of the flight here until our investigation is complete, and your cooperation would be most helpful.
-Raeph Brokenwings
P.S. We took your armor and the healer's robes to have them restored.  We left behind what we believe to be appropriate civilian clothing.
Quote from: lawastooshort
Find the peoples
[1]  You get up to go try and find your friends but I nurse Draconian comes in and forces you back onto the bed.  "No no no.  No moving until we 'ave made sure you 'ave no injuries, yes?"  she says forcefully before going back about her work.  You fold your arms, somewhat angry, stupid hospital rules.
Quote from: Fleur
Look into the names requested, then return and act indignant that they have all been ignoring their food and water.
[5]  Fleur quickly goes through the lists and finds both names, writing down all the necessary information to find them again later.  [4]  She comes back and sees Mordekhai in bed with Akari petting her.  "What iz zis, I leave for five minutes and you act like you are at 'ome again.  Get into your beds and eat your food, both of you."  She smiles at Aegnor, "Zee, 'e knows 'ow 'zis works.  First you eat, 'zen you can get out of bed.  Now, no more excitement until ze food is gone."  she seems pretty adamant about the whole forcing you to eat thing... you're not sure you want to see to what lengths she'll go to make you eat.
((@Zako: When Kael came, Mord had already stopped most of the moping. :P))
"Sure." Mordekhai answered Kael, handwaving the troll. After Nepthym talked to him, he wasn't exactly in need for "words of wisdom". As far as he was concerned, the figment of his imagination had given him everything he needed...
The fact the troll had completely missed the point didn't help either.
Mordekhai stood up and got to eating his food and drinking his water, finishing them and leaving nothing behind before sitting back on Akari's bed and resuming his petting, caressing her area behind her ears.
My bad Nep. This is not...romantic though, it's just hard to resist. And I feel like she needs some attention, much like you secretly wanted. I'll try to take care of my companions better before another tragedy happens.
Eat food, ask/search around for both the needed material for writing and the "appropriate civilian clothing".
