((Edit:  I know I should be relaxing, these games are like my babies though, I'm always remembering something and then freaking out and having to post about it.  *sigh* just need to let it go and relax.))

Tikan thanks her healer and joins the rest in moving on to the next doorway. Deciding not to burst in like an idiot and get all cut up this time, she hangs back a little, ready to thrust her knife into the first opportune - and hopefully already damaged - target she comes across.

Move on with the others.

Nepthym sidled up along Tikan. She spoke.

"...You fight with one hand tied behind your back. You shouldn't have given them a chance to surrender-once a mans blood is up, he's not going to toss down his sword unless he realizes he's outnumbered. Don't hesitate next time.

What's your name anyway?"

Aegnor turns to Shruick, and nods. And starts to cast the healing spell on the guard.
"Yeah, I can do that."

As Aegnor cast the healing spell on the guard to stop the guard bleeding out, he brought something up to the group, after a couple of moments thought, and then he speaks to Shruick
"I think that there actually isn't that many actual pirates on board. If this person has bribed the guards, then it probably means that there's only a small group of them."

Finishing his work, he stands up and avoids the bodies by a wide margin. Closing his eyes while he rubs them, and shuddering a little, he follows the others. Giving the dead bodies a wide berth.

"You almost look bored. Let's go find some excitement, hmm?"

"Well, I could use some distraction from duty. Been working for too long lately." Mordekhai answers half-jokingly as he starts to move ahead of the group.

"And to think fellow guards were bribed, they really should have higher standards. I guess they are paying dishonesty with blood. Not quite worth whatever gold they received, I'd say."

"Most of them are washouts and failures from proper military, anyway. They've got no heart for a fight." She says, wondering if Mordek caught onto to what she was saying.

Zealots and Demons, Turn 14: Snapped Necks, Sneaking Celestials

Quote from: Ochita
healing spell on the guard.
Aegnor moved to the guard's side at Shruick's request and knelt by him. As he cast he noted that there might not be many actual pirates on board, and that they would probably be fighting mostly bribed guardsmen. Mordekhai looked disgusted by the idea of people failing their duty for a bit of coin, while Nepthym merely shrugged. (4 Mana expended; 5 HP restored) The guard looked significantly better under the elf's ministrations...

Quote from: CrimsonEon
Regardless if Aegnor heals him or not, Knock the guard out. Move on afterwards.
(6) ...for all of five seconds as Shruick kicked him in the head. The guard's neck twisted at a very bad angle with a sick popping sound. Well, on the bright side, he wouldn't be getting up and bothering anyone now.

Keep on truckin'.
(4) The party entered a corridor through their chosen exit as Mordekhai and Nepthym flirted continued to encourage the shippers talked. It looked like they had been dumped in the depths of the brig; ahead of them were cell doors on either side for most of the hall. At the end were a pair of wooden doors. (2) The five of them neither saw nor heard anything unusual. (5) If it wasn't for the fact she was talking to the rest of them, the party wouldn't be able to find the sneaking Nepthym at all.

Aegnor smiled, the guard was looking a lot better, and some pinkness was back into the guards face. Taking a tiny breather, he opened his eyes to see Shruick kicking the guards neck, and then the sickening sound of something giving. The blood and dead bodies was enough, but being so close to see somebody die like that.. Aegnor puked. After he was done, and wiped his mouth with a piece of cloth, he gave Shruick a dirty look, and then got back to the rest of the party.

Now, back to the present..

Aegnor sighed, and tried to forget about the taste of vomit, and that sight. Shaking his thoughts into the present, he slowly moves forward, trying to hear if anything is amiss. And then decides to stay near to the back of the party.

Move forward with the party.

Shruick grimaced, the guard's neck didn't agree with him being knocked out at all. "Erm," Shruick fumbled, "Not my best idea, but there was no way I was going to let him cause trouble. I guess if anything you've gotten a little more practice at healing, then..." Shruick paused awkwardly, "Forget I said that. Bottom line; My bad."

When the party moved forward, Shruick tried his best to put that mistake out of his head. The brig proved to be more expansive than he had thought, "Just how much prison space do you need for a simple luxury liner?" Shruick thought aloud.

Listen through the wooden doors, help whoever goes through.

Tikan showed no reaction to Nepthym's unasked-for advice as the group moved on. Everyone has their reasons, she reflected.

"Tikan. I'm... a travelling tutor. Reading, spelling, that kind of thing. You?"

She moved up to the wooden doors to listen for any warning signs before the group moved through.

Still, she continued, now that we know our enemy, there's probably no point in seeking a peaceful end. These guardsmen have turned against their rightful duty; the law of the land will surely deal the death I was trying to avoid. Would have been quicker and safer for everyone if they'd just surrendered...

Tikan moves to the doors, listens for any signs of danger, moves through the doors with the group, about 3rd through and then keeping to the sides if possible.

Quiet.

Nepthym spoke barely above a whisper.

Tikan showed no reaction to Nepthym's unasked-for advice as the group moved on. Everyone has their reasons, she reflected.

"Tikan. I'm... a travelling tutor. Reading, spelling, that kind of thing. You?"

"Call me Jacelyna." Nepthym said. That wasn't a lie, not exactly-she just asked them to call her Jacelyna, she thought with a hidden smile. "And you know what I am." She finished, pulling out her knife.

When the party moved forward, Shruick tried his best to put that mistake out of his head. The brig proved to be more expansive than he had thought, "Just how much prison space do you need for a simple luxury liner?" Shruick thought aloud.

"...Wasn't always a passenger liner-this used to be a warship, probably a frigate. They sealed up the gunports with plaster and painted them over, but I saw the indents on the way in. Explains the extra cells and cargo space."

...

After Aegnor had time to compose himself, and to also move with the group, he replied to Shruick.
"Yes, it really wasn't your best plan."

Aegnor settled into an uncomfortable silence. After a seconds thought, he suddenly broke it.
"Also, I'd like it if you wouldn't call me healer. Aegnor is my name.. And um.. At least that guard isn't going to be a problem? You did what you felt was needed, and that's something to respect."

Mordekhai calmly moved in front of the group, or would do so wasn't it for the rogue woman, who seemed to be sneaking ahead while talking to them. Probably intending to scout the area prior to their arrival, which would probably be useful. Or maybe she'd try to kill everyone in the path ahead, he couldn't be too sure.

Her story as Jacelyna the rich woman was a bit fantastic and not very well-intepreted. She seemed able to lie, but even then she didn't have the acting skills of a spy. Leaving the matters aside for the moment wouldn't matter too much, though, since they still had to think about getting out of their situation before anything else.

Move on ahead of the group.

Shruick waved his hand in agreement, "All right, Aegnor it is. Though I can't promise I won't call you healer occasionally." Shruick chuckled nervously, "Name's Shruick."

"...Wasn't always a passenger liner-this used to be a warship, probably a frigate. They sealed up the gunports with plaster and painted them over, but I saw the indents on the way in. Explains the extra cells and cargo space."

"In that case, it'd make sense." Shruick quietly agreed, "But what I don't get is why a liner would convert a frigate into a luxury ship. Crammed hallways and unpalatable design would be rather difficult to work with." Shruick pauses, recalling cleaning up said crammed hallways in the last few days, "Then again I suppose it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility."

This turn brought to you by coffee and a half-hour of peace to write it in. Coffee. It's what's for breakfast. I also highly doubt anyone will get the turn-title joke. :-\

Zealots and Demons, Turn 15: T. Furrows the Guard

Quote from: Ochita
Move forward with the party.
Feeling in a pensive mood, Aegnor followed the party to the doors, and waited patiently while Nepthym and Mordekhai tried to walk through the left hand door at the same time and got stuck. Mordekhai stepped back with a sarcastic bow and allowed 'Jacelyna' through while the elf watched Tikan listen at the right hand door. After a few moments and some loud thumping, Mordekhai and Nepthym came back and went through the other door. Aegnor followed, of course, remaining in the back behind Shruick for maximum protection.

Quote from: CrimsonEon
Listen through the wooden doors, help whoever goes through.
Shruick listened at the first door, then the second. (4, 4) The door on the left was silent. Either it was empty or it was populated by extremely skilled assassins, and the Draconian wasn't feeling in a goofy enough mood to believe it was the latter. He heard distant footsteps through the door on the right; it sounded like they were going upstairs. It looked like Nepthym and Mordekhai were wanting to go through the (Coin flip for lack of specification, heads = left tails = right: heads) left door, so he moved to the side opposite the knob, turned it, and pushed it open, ready to jump in after them if anything happened. When they went through the other door a little bit later, Shruick found himself fourth in the marching order. Or third, since Mordekhai and Nepthym were both trying to vanguard.

Quote from: Dwarmin
Scout stealthily forward a bit ahead of the party
Quote from: Caellath
Move on ahead of the group.

Nepthym and Mordekhai headed off together to - apparently - look for a room (and I'll keep making these allegations as long as both of you keep acting Slap Slap Kiss Kiss and constantly trying to one-up each other :P). (N: 4, M: 2.) Nepthym continued to blend fairly well with the shadows, though her ability to do so was somewhat hindered by the big guy in heavy armor blatantly following her. They entered the left room after Shruick graciously opened the door for them and took a look around. (2, 5) Nepthym saw nothing but moldy crates and half-rotted barrels. Mordekhai, on the other hand, noticed a familiar glint behind some of the crates and pushed them away to get it. It appeared that this was once the armory back when it was a warship, and someone had left a buckler behind. Not one to let military equipment go to waste, he picked it up. (Mordekhai gains: Rusty Iron Buckler! It doesn't look like it's in great condition...)

With nothing else to do in that room, they leave and go through the right door.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Tikan moves to the doors, listens for any signs of danger, moves through the doors with the group, about 3rd through and then keeping to the sides if possible.
Tikan listened to the doors as well. (5, 2) The door on the left was silent until the guard and thief duo entered and started looking around. The door on the right sounded like there was some kind of giant damn king centipede or something crawling around and it really wasn't a very pleasant noise at all. She shuddered and stepped back with a 'bleh' type sound, allowing the others to go first but taking what should have been the third position in the marching order.

Quote from: Party
Upstairs on the double!
The party headed upstairs and onto a landing. As they rounded the corner, they came across three guards. One was pacing around anxiously, the other two were apparently talking about fishing judging from all they heard of the conversation ("...and it about pulled me out of the boat, it was this big'...) and the accompanying hand movements as if to indicate size. (Guard perception vs. Nepthym & Mordekhai: 6-1 6, 3-1 2, 1-1 1) The pacing guard saw the thief and the soldier at the same time and started hollering about prison breaks and how they were all going to die. The talking guards - who could not see the party from where/how they were standing - paid no attention for a few seconds before one said "shut the hell up, Corman, and go take a nap."

Apparently this guard has always been high-strung... which could work out in the party's favor...
