”Here,” spoke Tikan, softly. ”Let me go first, I can probably travel lighter than you both… unless you want me to cover your backs in case we are surprised? Incidentally, do you know if this is an unfriendly area, Mordekhai? Do we need to be very careful?”

Check the alleys ahead of Mordekhai. Go stealthily in the shadows a short distance ahead of the other two and listen carefully.

Zealots & Demons, Turn 61: Alleyways For Everyone

Quote from:  Aegnor Tinúviel / Ochita
Run into the alleys!
Quote from:  Kael Jungothr / Zako
Follow my allies into the alley as rearguard. Cut down any fast ones that catch us!
Quote from:  Fleur / SeriousConcentrate
Run, of course!

(Retreat Rolls: 6, 5) Aegnor was almost around a corner and out of sight before Fleur and Kael realized he was running. With some real effort, the troll and draconian caught up to him, but the sound of the mob wasn't far behind. (Chase Rolls: 3, 5, 3) Kael tipped over some crates as he passed, slowing the mob directly behind them down... but more had cut through some side alleys and headed them off, forcing the party to detour. Luckily there actually was another passage to dart down, but the residents of the quarantine zone knew the town better than they did, and if they didn't find a good place to hide soon it was only a matter of time before they had to stop and fight.

The alley they found themselves in was narrow and filthy. At the far end was a wooden fence that they could probably get over, but it was debatable if they could do so quickly. It looked like there was another path to the right just before it. Fleur looked to Aegnor and Kael, then glanced behind her. They had at least a few moments to look around, choose a path, or something before the mob caught up with them.

Quote from:  Mordekhai Sarvedon / Caellath

Quote from:  Akari Talria / Tiruin
Conjure up those bandages and medical equipment that I did while on the ship, earlier!
Quote from:  Tikan / lawastooshort
Check the alleys ahead of Mordekhai. Go stealthily in the shadows a short distance ahead of the other two and listen carefully.

(Tikan Stealth: 4+1) Tikan melted into the shadows, an action that came naturally to her. Proceeding without so much as a sound from her boots on the cobblestones, she moved ahead of Mordekhai and Akari into the alley. (Akari Conjuration: 2) While following, the kitsune attempted to conjure up some medical supplies. What she ended up with was a clearly used bandage and with a bit of revulsion she dropped the bloody thing on the ground. Mordekhai merely shook his head at her and entered the alleyways himself to search for clues. (Tikan Listen: 6. Mordekhai Search: 3.) Tikan listened carefully. So carefully that, even though he was being quiet, every step of Mordekhai's armored boots against the cobblestones was driving her crazy! (Tikan has a -1 to actions requiring concentration next round.) Beyond that, she didn't hear anything. Which was odd... even in a quarantine, there should be people moving around, going about their daily lives. There wasn't even the requisite crazy yelling about how this was a sign of the end times.

Disturbing. (By the way, there's a troll right here I'm not showing you. ♪~I'm not even telling you what it's for~♫)

((Oh, you.  :P))

Blast it, shouldn't have focused on those ones at the ship...which reminds me of the writing implements. How were they doing?

Maybe...he didn't notice it.

Try to get to a higher vantage point for scouting around. The tops of the buildings are preferable.

And I'm left behind again...

Gngngngngn! groaned Tikan. "You're the noisiest man in the world! It's quiet though, otherwise... Perhaps you should go first? That way, if you get jumped I'll be able to jump the jumper?"

Keep scouting ahead stealthily, unless Mordekhai would prefer to go first, in which case hide in the shadows as a rearguard.

"Now I REALLY wish I had a shield..."

Kael glanced at the passageway to the right and then back at the fence, then looked at the pair standing near him.

"I probably won't be able to get over that fence quickly with my armor. Ideas?"

Aegnor glanced at the fence, then the passageway. "No-one gets left behind, we have to use that passageway.."

He glanced back at the alley.. "Maybe if me and fleur gave you a boost? We can then get over ourselves, and the fence should slow them down."

"This place seems...strangely calm." Mordekhai noticed, looking around.

Follow Akari, but try to stay on a level lower than her due to armor, advancing carefully. One point in Athletics, go!

Vanguard that passageway!

(A: 4. K: 3. Mob Chase: 3, 3, 3. Random my ass, four threes in a row.) Fleur darted into the passageway, followed by Kael and Aegnor. Behind them they could hear angry, confused yells. It seemed the mob was splitting up to cover all the possible escape routes; a small blessing. If - or maybe it was more likely to be when - the mob caught up to them, it would take time for the full strength of it to be organized once more. The trio barely had time to process that thought as they charged down the passage. It ended in a wide oak door and (K: 6+2) Kael smashed through it like it was glass rather than wood. While it got them inside, it meant that they couldn't block the door behind them and buy themselves any extra time. Not only that, but a yell of recognition meant that at least some of the mob had cottoned on to where they had went.

A quick look around confirmed they were in a warehouse. There was a large door at the opposite end, which they could barely see past all the crates of goods piled around. Nearby was a staircase leading up to a catwalk from which an overseer could observe shipments being brought in. (You have a few seconds to look around, so if there's any one thing in particular you want to check out quickly from where you're standing just do an RP post and underline what you want to observe. I'll mini-turn it for ya. I'm sure it's obvious but Aegnor and Kael can check out different things; for example the crates, the door on the opposite end, the catwalk, the stairs themselves, etc.)

(A: 2+2. T: M: 6+1. Huh.) Despite her natural agility, the kitsune was swiftly outpaced - quite surprisingly - by Mordekhai, who climbed so quickly and fluidly even in his heavy armor that he found himself at the top of a third floor roof while she was barely getting to the top of a second floor roof. On the ground, Tikan (2+1) was attempting to sneak but failing at it. The thief advanced forward, but (3) didn't find much of anything of interest at the ground level. Just more alleyways. Akari (1. 3, 4/2=2 damage) fell off the roof just as she was getting her footing and plopped into the soft squishy mud behind Tikan. Luckily her pride was hurt more than anything, but it was still frustrating and slightly embarrassing.

Mordekhai looked over the town from his vantage point, trying to figure out where he would go to ground were he a pirate lass. (4) A few locations that caught his eye. There was what he assumed had been a watch tower before it fell into disrepair, a tavern off in the distance, what appeared to be a short apartment building that had an odd haze around it (probably caused by wild magic), and an old dock for airships.

((I panicked at the title XD

Also, nothing is random :P))

Muh, knew I shouldn't have filed my nails back on the ship...

Akari pushed herself up while dusting away the mud on her clothing and staff, including her face.

This will take hours to clean the small ones!

"Can you tell me how you did that Mordekhai? Also, what do you see?

"Please don't tell anyone about this Tikan..."

Kael didn't bother looking behind him, he knew they would not have much time. Right now, however, they needed to make a choice about which way they were going to go. Did they try the door and hope it wasn't locked or lead to somewhere worse than they had been, or take the stairs to the catwalk and took their chances on the rooftops?

Look at the door at the end. Does it looked locked or barred somehow?

(Observation: 5) The door cannot be locked from the inside, although it can be barred; it's more likely the lock would be on the outside. In any case, the hooks for the bar are currently empty. The door itself looked almost identical to the door Kael just smashed through. The hinges were on the same side as Kael, which meant it opened into the warehouse and judging from its size most of the cargo in the warehouse was carried in through this door. (Perhaps the back door was used for making more... discreet... deliveries and pick-ups?) The distance from the back door to the front door was about one hundred feet, although there were a lot of crates in the way. The final and most important detail about the door wa that - judging from the extremely thin sliver of light at the right-hand edge - it was ajar.

(Edited to correct tenses; for some reason I kept flipping between past and present tense so... fix'd to past tense. :P)

An idea sparked inside Kael's mind. The open door, the plentiful cover of the boxes, it was possibly the best chance they had right now.

"I got an idea! Both of ya hide among the crates, I'll open that door a bit more and hide as well. We'll fool them into passing us!"

Dash over to the door and open it a bit more, then duck behind some crates and hide!
