Akari followed suit, getting off and claiming her share of the feast, all the while rebuking herself mentally for not listening to the nurse. The food was good, better than air fare she usually ate while tinkering with the crystals and the drink helped wash down anything she didn't feel like eating despite not being full.

She adjusted herself on the bed into a more comfortable and formal pose afterwards, sitting up while relating what she knew to the rest. Mordekhai's perfect sense of timing kicked in again as when she finished, the hand came.

"Miss Fleur, where are we anyway? And when can we retrieve our personal belongings?" she said as she edged closer to the wall, hopefully concealing her slowly swishing tail. The mood had lightened and she was glad that everyone was looking better. for the most part.

Ask Fleur!

((And as a free action, everyone else knows what I know in turn 50 for brevity.))

Far in the distant past...

Malgun adjusted his hat as he walked through the long marble corridors, silent save for the distant sounds of echoing gunfire. More than likely he had left his followers to die against overwhelming odds, but they knew the score before they came along. Four - two, really; Alimcorez was down and Renke was MIA - could hardly stand against an entire fortress of demons and those the infernal had enslaved. And thinking of demons, one rounded the corner with a sword in hand, presumably heading for the entrance.

The demon-hunter immediately lashed out with a right hook to the face, then released the blade on his left wrist and stabbed it in the heart. As the demon fell, he took its soul for his own. Already he could feel the rush of power and vitality through him. The fortress was populated only by the strongest demons, but that in itself was a mixed blessing; when he didn't surprise them, the fights would be difficult, but each he killed would make him stronger than before. Maybe even strong enough to fight the Goddess on her own terms.

He ran a hand across his face, released a deep sigh as he continued onward. He should have seen it coming two hundred years ago, when he'd first spoke to Sareesa in a dream. She hadn't been at her full strength, and unable to use her full power to hold the gates closed... in the end, she had been corrupted. And now he'd moved too slowly, allowing her to build an army while he was gathering all the knowledge and materials he needed to seal her away.

Almost an hour later, he was finishing a fight in a small antechamber against five demon-slaves; only one remained, and he lunged at the hunter with a mace in hand. Malgun caught his wrist, slammed him into the wall, and broke his ribs with a few strikes. The man fell unconscious, and Malgun tossed him to the side as he drew his own holy sword. "Sounds like the gunfire has stopped. They've bought me all the time they can."

He picked up the pace. Very strong opponents were ahead, and every moment he delayed he lowered his chances of success.

Aegnor shook his head. He had dozed off for a moment and he realised that the kitsune was asking his name.

"My name is Aegnor. I'm a travelling healer, mostly going around small villages and helping to make the lives of the inhabitants better.  And.. While my personal customs are no longer truely elven, I would like it if we paid our respects as a group."

Nodding to mordekhai's words, he stood up, brushing off the crumbs.

"I'm certain that we will reach the source of this event, sooner or later. Still, I would like it if we can't stay a little bit, to see if we can't help out the people here."

Deciding that just standing was not achieving anything, Aegnor decided to do some stretches, feeling the warmth that came as muscles started to wake up. Watching Kael go, he continued his warm-up, until he had worked the sleepyness from his body.

"Kael seems like a good man. I'll have to talk with him a bit later, and to compare stories. Maybe he's been to the elven homeland.. Anyway, I'll just see if I can't help out until we can get going to the memorial."

Ask Fleur if I can help with the hospital work.

Tikan knelt, in silence.

She felt a little awkward; she was kneeling in respect to two people she had barely known, yet whom she had trusted with her life, in a way that was not thought through or spoken, at least.

She wondered what would happen. She wasn't deluded enough to think that this... accident could be a sign, a signal that she was not meant to take up her new life away from what had been home. But while she'd been lying in bed she had wondered about this. She'd always been one thing, whilst pretending to be another, and she'd made the half-hearted decision to become her mask.

Perhaps some things were not meant to be?

Her mind wandered. Shruick had been, albeit briefly, kind to her. A little sadness came; passed; an emptiness entered her mind.

She'd fought alongside four others, still living. She wasn't sure yet what their connection truly was, but, she told herself, perhaps some things were meant to be.

Tikan got up with a decisiveness she'd let few see and strode back to the ward.

First she would talk with the one with the tail. She'd been braver than any warrior Tikan had ever laid eyes upon, and she hoped she was doing well.

...   ...   ...   ...   ...   ...

"Hello," she ventured, uncertainly. The strong one was sitting on the tailed one's bed, and Tikan was amused at the idea of being in the way. She didn't think she was. "I came to see if you were ok, Akari." Tikan smiled for the first time in a while. "Handy, having a tail, eh, sometimes... "

She looked at her feet.

"Sorry... perhaps you wanted to forget. Not the... Bother. You know... You were very brave, and I wanted to thank you. What will you do now?"

Eat and drink. And then get up!

Kael walked, humming under his breath as he thought over the peculiar group of people he just met. It was chance that he happened to pass by at the moment that Akari said that particular line, and it resonated inside him. He did like to think that the good guys always won, even if it wasn't always so, but who was to say who was really good and who was really bad? It was impossible to say for sure.

As he left the hospital for the time being, he decided that the patients he just met would probably like to know about the town they were in. He didn't know about it either, having just arrived recently on his journey, so he figured he could help them out somewhat.

Check out the town, taking down mental notes of interesting and important places.

((I love them lore snapshots ^^))

As Tikan introduced herself and thanked her, Akari felt humbled by her words.

"I'm not sure. I'm out of my job again and I would stay to pay my respects to your friends, even though I didn't know them much."

She tapped Mordekhai's hand as a suggestion to stop for the time being, "But if you'd like. I want to join you all in whatever quest or journey you're all undertaking..." This group of people accepted her just as she was, and nobody before ever did the gesture of rubbing that other spot as a show of amiability, especially a human. She secretly enjoyed it, but it looked like Fleur would get too huffed up on their carefree-ness, for lack of a word.

"What are all your goals anyway? Mother told me about this world and all it's strangeness, and all I want to do is explore it and...well, let the winds carry my fate now that I'm free."

(Glad someone commented on them. I kinda felt like I was just writing them for myself, for awhile there... ^^^; I'm really only planning two, maybe three more for Malgun. After that, we'll see if V-N has any other topics he wants me to write about.)

"Oh, sorry." Mordekhai said, retreating the offending hand, the crusader still sitting on Akari's bed.

"And about our group's goals...Well, I think we grouped together on the fly. Although I think we may have a goal now, which would be discovering what is happening...What was the cause of the incident in the airship." he answers with a resolute expression.

They would have a good reason for joining and moving on now. Whatever was happening behind the curtains was bigger than what it seemed at first.

It was most obviously not a simple case of pirates attacking ships...demons were involved.

"I think the Captain still lives...Or probably the pilot. Or the Ship Marshal...

"To be fair, I don't know any of them."

Akari smiled as she gestured towards ..the two NPCs..Minuet and Raleigh.

"I see both of you are doing fine, now? Let's all go along with these people? Shame about the bar though...was a real good place to spend free time."

And then ask Minuet and Raleigh to come! :D

Zealots and Demons, Turn 51:  Descriptions and Stuff

Quote from: Ceallath
Eat food, ask/search around for both the needed material for writing and the "appropriate civilian clothing".

[1]  You sit back down on your bed and eat your food.  It's only a few minutes until you are done.  Afterwards you look around for your clothing.  You can't seem to find anything besides a pair of used socks though. . . you're pretty sure that isn't what Raeph left.

Quote from: Tiruin
Ask Fleur!

[5]  "You are in Durant.  I understand zat many... outsiders overlook our home, so, if you need anyzing, you will let me know, yes?  Oh yes, and I have all of your zings back here, I will help you when you are ready to leave."

Quote from: Ochita
Ask Fleur if I can help with the hospital work.

[auto-success] "We could always use the help, but are you sure?  I mean, you just woke-up from a terrible airship accident.  Oh yes, I forgot momentarily, your newspaper."" Fleur says handing you a local newspaper.  It is from yesterday and the news is filled with stories about the accident.  After a short read, it doesn't seem like they know much more than you do.  Looking through the rest of the paper you find out the funeral services for those lost in the crash is this evening at sunset.  You make a mental note to attend.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Eat and drink. And then get up!

[4]  You finish your food and water before standing up and stretching out a little, you'll be happy when you can plan your own schedule again.

Quote from: Zako
Check out the town, taking down mental notes of interesting and important places.

[5]  You walk through the city of Durant taking note of some of the features.  Of course there is the Keep, houses most of the government and such.  You also pass by the Cathedral of War as well as the Zealot's Sancturary, which houses all of the Zealots in town, who serve the Durant as guards.  Then there are the Ramparts, huge stone walls, twenty meters thick and twice as high.  They were originally built to protect against dragons, it's been so long since a dragon has been seen that almost everyone believes they are extinct now.

There are several other places of note in the city, a variety of minor chapels, several bars, inns, taverns, and the like scattered about, the most popular of which is Snowy Peak Pub.  There are several merchants haggling in the streets over the price of goods, perhaps most important to note though is the Clear Water Fountain which helps to provide water to the entire city.  While it is not ornately decorated or detailed, the size of it is impressive by any standard, it holds more than ten thousand gallons and seems to draw from an unlimited supply.

Quote from: Fleur
Go back to reading for the moment.

[6]  Fleur goes back to reading, or rather, tries to, but she seems to constantly be distracted by something weighing in at the back of her mind.

While waiting for the bartender and the waitress' answer, Akari stood up.

"Miss Fleur, I think I'm ready to leave. Nothing else to do but recuperate, and I guess I feel fully able. How does the funeral look like anyway? How many will be attending, and are our friends going to have a private spot to their own?"

Ask Fleur and wait upon Minuet & Raleigh's answer.

"I am also fine." Mordekhai said as Akari got up. The kitsune was the bravest member of the group as he saw her. She just took her chances and rushed Jacelyna at that time - uncaring of her own wellbeing and expecting only death to embrace her - while he had just been too slow and a lackluster defender.

But the time for self-loathing had ended. He sighed deeply before smiling, decided to keep what had happened in the past away from his behavior in the present.

Keep searching.

The cathedral of war intrigued him. He thought back a bit and realised that he had never really visited one before, or at least not one that he could remember. It had been awhile since he had been in a building like this one...

Head into the Cathedral of War and investigate what it's purpose is and about the building in general.

"I feel ok too, and, you know, I would very much like to attend the funeral this evening. When will we be free to go, Miss Fleur?"

Tikan turned back to Akari's question.

"You know, Akari, I didn't really know them much more than you. I was travelling to seek work, but I'm not sure I was really cut out for it. I felt more at home with something more... exciting to keep me on edge. Silly of me, really."

"I also would like to know how all this happened, but I don't know that it's my place to find out. But then, it's not really my place teaching spoilt brats in the city either. Bit of a farm girl, myself..."

Tikan flashed a childish grin at Akari and Mordekhai.

"Anyway. I'm going to eat and rest before the nurse catches me again. I imagine I'll see you this evening?"

Eat and rest again to make sure! Try to get my belongings back before attending the funeral.

"I don't know what you're on about, we aren't heroes or anything.  Ta' be honest, we're probably just going to go back and see about getting jobs on another airship.  It's a good life if you don't mind the heights."

"Speak for yourself, I just want to go back home and get a nice job as a bar maiden and never leave the safety of town again. . . at least after they fix my arm."

"Zee funeral will be the evening at sun set, it is morning now so you have plenty of time to prepare.  'Zere will be quite a few cremations, after all, we are dealing with a terrible accident after all.  'Zere are no plans for private proceedings or any'zing, anybody who wants to will be able to attend though."
