((sorry for delay. Tempted to throw nepthym the gun, or shall I shoot her myself? I'll edit the action if anyone has any strong feelings..))

Pick up the gun. Slide it over to where Nepthym went to ground. Continue to fight Maria defensively.

Pick up the gun. Unload the clip on Maria as soon as a clear shot presents itself. If I risk hitting Mordekhai too much, then slide gun over to Nepthym and continue to melee defensively.

Zealots and Demons, Turn 40:  Machine Pistols ROCK!

Quote from: Dwarmin, 81
Action: Roll behind heavy cover and try to play dead, trying to get her to forget about me. Using Sneakiness I would hope.

If and when I lose her scent, rise up and use Sniper Shot ability with my rifle in her back.

[4]You manage to get yourself behind cover, but Maria does not seem to forget so easily.  (movement roll prevents roll to disappear)

(Attack roll canceled because not hidden)

((Just so everyone knows, locational damage really will only have an effect in status effects on high-value targets, and it's far better to try and maim than go for something that would naturally kill a person because with a hit point system.  Mostly because unless you actually cause high damage, I'm not going to add any modifiers for it, certain planned boss fights and status effects excluded of course.))

Quote from: Tiruin, 47
Save Jacelyna (Nephthym) by providing cover!

Enchantment @ Maria: Try to create a bubble of fire around her weapons to destroy them or at least burn her hands!

(First action canceled, no longer necessary to be a meat shield)

[3]  You use your latent magical energy to heat her weapons up, and while uncomfortable, Maria manages to maintain her grip on her weapons, partially from her gloves, and partially from determination. [2 damage]

Quote from: Caellath, 35
Use the flail's chain the same way as the thurible's and prevent her remaining arm's movement.

((In answer to your question, no.  At best it is an improvised weapon and not a trained weapon so you would receive no benefit.))

[5] You manage to get your flail around her other arm and pull her down to her knees.

Quote from: lawastooshort ,28
Pick up the gun. Unload the clip on Maria as soon as a clear shot presents itself. If I risk hitting Mordekhai too much, then slide gun over to Nepthym and continue to melee defensively.

[4][5][3][4][2], [5 damage]+[2x2=4 damage]+[4/2=2 damage]+[6 damage]=[17 damage]  You see your opportunity and pull the trigger on the machine pistol, it quickly jerks out of your control you can see you managed to shoot her a few times for the twenty bullets though.  You also notice that several spells seem to spit out of the pistol as you're firing. [2] The gun if far too wild for you to aim them at Maria though and several fire balls and ice shards crash against the walls and ceiling.  How the hell does she use something so small with so very much power.

Quote from: Maria, 18
Surrender.

Maria throws her other pistol out of the bridge with a quick flick of her wrist.  "I know when I'm beat, I surrender."  She says, though she doesn't appear to happy about the prospect, her teeth gritting against themselves and not exactly being... cooperative.

Quote from: Ochita, 14
Holy shield!

[1] You look around. . . it all seems to have calmed down now.  Huh. . . strange, you thought it was going to be a lot harder than all of that.

((Doesn't Maria have both arms locked?))

"See, girl? We're way better now, aren't we?" Mordekhai asked with a calm voice, keeping a strong grip on the chains that kept Maria in check, kneeling in front of him and with apparent little chance of escape.

The crusader could not help but wonder what kind of protection the pirate was using. Mordekhai, wasn't he resilient to damage himself, would have fallen after taking the same damage Maria had sustained. In any case...

"You should search her for ammo and anything of interest." he said to the group before turning back to Maria. "And you. May you give us the pleasure of starting to talk about what exactly is going on here and why?" the young man continued.

Interrogate Maria.

Aegnor hesitated, before clutching at the bullet wounds. They hurt like something awful, and while he was stable for the moment, things still hurt. Taking a glance at Nepthym, he saw her hands shaking with the machine pistol. Realising that he still had a duty, he took the pain, and put it to once side as he healed Nepthym.

Tikan walks over to Nepthym, hand and gun outstretched.

"Here," she begins. "You might have a little more luck than me with this, you appear to... have had some practice. Or perhaps you can show me how to handle it correctly if you don't want it?"

Stand guard by the door, listening and observing.

Perception

Nepthym couldn't think straight. This didn't exactly bring panic-she was sure it was some sort of shock. Caused by the bullet wound. Her mind churned. She kept pressure on her stomach to keep the wound from bleeding out, trying to stay calm.

She saw the quiet one-Tikan-approaching her with one of the rapid-fire guns. A threat? Her grip tightened on her knife.

"...First of all, you'll want to point that thing away from me. I reason the Pirate lass kept hers on a hair trigger. You're probably a half pound of pressure from filling me full of extra holes.

That said, either is fine with me. I'd rather teach you to shoot though-but maybe that's not exactly a gun for a beginner."

As everyone got to their bearings, Akari approached Mordekhai, Jacelyna and the rest, tapping the former on his armored shoulder.

"You know, I think we should interrogate her when we get out of this crashing ship." she said with a flat expression. Inside, it was turmoil -- panic, confusion and the urge to hug the nearest companion because of what had just occurred.

The Kitsune pointed at the broken instruments while keeping her gaze fixed on her companion. "Broken instruments, we can't save this thing, but perhaps the comm speakers can alert anyone left to abandon their work."

She glared at Maria, only wishing to give her a piece of her mind through her gaze.

"You want to crash the ship, don't you? Stealing some kind of valuable in your raid. Mordekhai, I propose you disarm her fully, and we search a way out." Akari stepped back, "I'll try to fix whatever I can. Stuff can wait for later!"

If speakers: available - Distress call! Jump ship, order!

Then search for a way out!

Try not to panic and/or Terrify @ Maria.

(Moar exposition for y'all. ^^^ I'll be doing a few of these as well, covering an event further back that's also important to the story.)

Far in the distant past...

Malgun ejected the magazine and checked it. Three rounds left, plus one ready to shoot. "Gerfried, you still alive over there?" he called over the loud gunfire coming from the stairs below them. A bullet pinged off the statue he was crouching behind, and he ducked away reflexively.

"Still here! Alimcorez got hit, though! Not sure if she's still alive!" the As'ci'til called back. "Getting low on ammo, too! Just filled the drum but I barely have enough for a reload!"

"Good! Keep your head down for a moment!" Malgun popped around the side of the statue, the world slowing down for him as he did so. A pair of bullets whizzed toward him; he flung himself to the ground under them, then shot the two men twice each before they could duck back into cover. He tossed the magazine down the stairs, popped a fresh one in, and turned his attention to his other two companions as he scrambled behind the statue again. "Renke, you and Irota still in the fight?"

"Just me, Malgun! Renke moved to flank, haven't heard back from him yet!" the woman responded.

"Got it! You get over there and check on Alimcorez! Gerfried, keep them busy up here; I'm going in!" Malgun slung the rifle strap onto his shoulder, then put a hand on the railing and vaulted it. He rolled forward smoothly with his landing, catching his hat and putting it back on as he walked into the fortress.

This was it.

This was Sareesa's final hour.

He just hoped he was doing the right thing.

Zealots and Demons, Turn 41:  It Just Keeps Getting Stranger

Quote from: Caellath
Interrogate Maria.

[5]  "How about I tell you to piss off, and then you go jump off a bridge?"  Mordekhai, unhappy with that answer uses his foot to push her face into the ground.  "Does that change your story?"  Maria sighs, still defiant.  "Look, nothin' personal, lotta rich people, lotta corrupt guards, what do you want me to do pass it up?  Like that'd ever happen."  She says snorting at the end of the statement.  "You Zealots are all the same, the young ones think they can change the entire world, make it better.  You know what's going to happen though, either you'll die, stabbed in the back by your own, or you'll have nothing to your name and be seventy years old, still sent into battle.  I'll take my life any day.  At least if I am good at it, I'll get to retire someday on a nice little plot of land far away from anyone else."

What about the whole crashing the ship thing?  That doesn't sound like normal pirate operations."

Maria blinks, "It's not my people. . . I just wanted the valuables.  Most of the people on-board wouldn't even miss it.  Your captain went shuffling off to the sub-bridge even, by the engines.  We're all supposed to be back on ship by now.  Speaking of which..." she says pausing.  "That's my ride, I'll be leaving now." [4]v[1] [4]v[2]  You find yourself quickly on your back and Maria jumps out the window and onto a small 5 meter skiff.  "If someone is trying to blow up the ship, it's the damned cultists we ran into.  Better get on that hero boy!"  she calls out with a wink, her tongue sticking out as the skiff ascends to join it's parent vessel.  You stand back up and sigh, will this nightmarish day never end?  Who all booked a flight aboard this thing?  Perhaps the most important question though, was this thing even going to actually crash.

That question seems to answer itself as you feel the ship lurch downwards before righting itself.  Remembering what little bit of learning you had to go through before accepting your post on the vessel you recognize the problem as originating from the engine room.  Thankfully the path there should be clear.  Of course, it might be worth it to check the sub-bridge first, if Maria was lying and she was responsible, you might be able to salvage the flight from there.

Quote from: Ochita
Heal Nepthym!

[5] [6x2=12 damage healed]  You quickly heal Nepthym back to full health.  You groan a little, bit, wishing you had used the spell on yourself, but it wasn't meant to be you suppose.

Quote from: lawastooshort
(Modified) Hand gun off to Nepthym, then stand guard.

[1] You attempt to hand the gun to Nepthym but the lurch knocks you off balance and you drop the empty pistol  It slides out of the front window of the bridge.  You feel a brief pang of loss, that was the best damn gun you had ever seen, it may have chewed through ammo like no other weapon, but it actually did what it was supposed to do.  [3]  You stand guard outside the door, but nothing really happens outside of the ship lurching slightly.

Quote from: Dwarmin
Action: Take a breather

[auto-success]  You stand back, away from all the action going on and just gather your thoughts, and your breath.

Quote from: Tiruin
If speakers: available - Distress call! Jump ship, order!

Then search for a way out!

[4] You find a communication system and alert the passengers to the situation, advising them to evacuate the ship.  Then you remember that most of them are locked up. . . hopefully somebody else set them free earlier.

[2]  You briefly think about throwing in with Maria and hopping out with her but you doubt your own abilities to make that jump, so you don't.
