((It works similarly to other professions now, the skill decides whether or not you can do something, the roll decides levels of success, and then an appropriate amount of mana is expended, for the most part a nominal amount unless you're using enchantment to create your own spells mid-battle.))

So...we can make our own spells? Interesting...How to regain mana?))

"Here. He was a warrior as well, and I am sure he would be glad if his weapon saw more action in his name."

Nepthym nodded somberly.

"It's odd, I don't feel right taking it, since he was one of us...guess that makes me a hypocrite.

Suppose it's for best, though."
She said, relenting and taking the blade in hand

It was a cut above the previous sword, which she discarded absentmindedly. Very sharp and well crafted. Luckily, Shruck had been a short sort of Draconian-the blade fit her grip and size almost perfectly.

She took it through a few practice swings-it hummed through the air with a deadly steel shimmer. Somehow, it just felt right to her. Like the spirit of it's owner was still with them, perhaps-and approving, she hoped.

If you're watching Draconian, I promise I'll honor your memory with this blade. She thought heavily.

Nepthym owed many debts, she thought, to the dead-revenge, honor, justice. She looked around at the bodies of the pirates, wondering if she would ever pay them all off.

Kicking the scattered remains of loot about with the point of her foot, Tikan couldn’t help but feel a slight wave of disappointment. A missed opportunity, she thought. She turned to the others.

”We should get going? Perhaps this bunch will be missed. To the bridge? Or do you have any other ideas?”

Carefully scout out the beginnings of a route from here to the bridge.

((I also question the wisdom of dragging a corpse around with you that I was planning on handling myself, but if your character would feel a particular attachment, I suppose I can't argue))
((Mordekhai values his companions, and Shruick's death was partly his fault in his mind. IC, he doesn't know the GM can handle it, and he wants to give the corpse the proper rites. He can leave it somewhere soon, though, as long as he thinks it won't be fed on by undead. :P))

Zealots and Demons, Turn 37:  It's Time to Meet Maria

Quote from: Caellath
Give Shruick's saber to Nepthym, keep looking for a rifle, then move out with the group.

[3]  You hand the Saber to the Celestial without incident.  You look around for another rifle, but all you find is a brace of single-shot pistols.  You take the three pistols anyhow.

Quote from: Tiruin
Enchantment! Conjure up some healing equipment! If possible, this means readily-applied equipment!

[2]  You manage to conjure up. . . the materials to make a cast?  You sincerely hope you'll never need that.  You sigh dismissing the materials as they probably won't be useful.

Quote from: Dwarmin
and move on with the rest of the party when everyone is ready.

[is a group roll]  You take the sabre, give it a couple of test swings, then continue on.

Quote from: Lawastooshort
Carefully scout out the beginnings of a route from here to the bridge.

[4]  You find the shortest path.  You're not very far away from the bridge now.

Quote from: Ochita A.I
Move out with the group

[auto-success]  You do so

GROUP ROLL

[4+1(bonus from planned path)=5]  The group silently runs down the hall.  You all duck into a small closet when you hear someone coming, but he passes quickly and you're back on your way again.  You're just outside the Bridge when you hear a loud gun-shot.  You then hear the wind start to whip against the door to the Bridge.  You hear several other gunshots and loud, feminine, if somewhat crude, laughter.

Mordekhai sighed, laying Shruick's corpse down with a few whispered words of prayer before preparing to move in.
"It seems like we found our troublemaker."

He started to slowly swing the flail in short circles, holding the chain with one hand while the other held the grip.

"Shall we?" he asked with a relaxed voice.

Move into the bridge room while trying to keep the element of surprise. Upon arrival, crush the nearest opponent's weapon arm.

In the Far North, Under the mountains known as The Polvons

A human in a thick brown cloak sought shelter from the harsh winter storms outside on his journey from the port city of Kuth towards. . . well, he didn't really know.  Many moons had passed since Serran had felt he knew what he was doing.  Somehow, he felt closer now, closer to his destiny.  Serran summoned a small ball of light to light the cave as he moved further inwards, hoping to spend the night here after warming the chilled, damp air.

At first, Serran didn't question the cave, geology was not his speciality but something about this was not right.  He had gone in through three rooms, and now, in this the fourth room, all the stalactites and stalagmites were much smaller, they seemed somehow managed.  There was a small winding path, leading down deeper into the ground.  Serran desperately fought against the desire to explore, and set out his things for the night.

There wasn't much, a bed roll, several blankets, and a bit of basic cooking equipment.  Serran boiled some snow water he collected, purifying it for the continuation of he journey tomorrow.  Serran drank the last of today's water sighing sadly.  He knew he was here, in this part of the world for some reason.  The gods had so clearly directed him here, but for what purpose.  Serran sat, pondering the mysteries, and completely missing the sounds coming from behind him.

((To be continued.))

And now, the conclusion to today's story,

Behind Serran crept to magically concealed Priestesses.  Nodding to one another the both lept at him at one time, easily subduing him.  "A worthy tribute." said one.  The other just stared, her brown eyes piercing through the younger Priestess.  They dragged him down, further into the cave bound and gagged.

Serran silently watched as the cave seemed to illuminate itself with a bizarre silvery light.  At the bottom, Serran saw something he could scarcely believe.  Several hundred acolytes, priestesses and other supplicants gathered around.  The two priestesses who had captured Serran stood in reverence at the back of this... chapel he assumed.  After a few, very long minutes, a young woman with silver hair reaching halfway down her back and piercing gray eyes went to the podium to address the assembly.  All of the women gathered became as silent as the dead, waiting to hear whatever this. . . he would say Bishop from his current understanding, was going to say.

"My sisters, long have we waited for a return of our Goddess.  Long have we stood, and watched this world fall to ruin apart from her influence.  Under Sareesa's influence, this world was united against demonic invaders.  Under Sareesa's influence, all the demons were scoured from this world and she ascended to the heavens.  Unlike the rest of the Pantheon, Sareesa was not content to rest easy, in her divinity she sought to secure this world from further harm.  In the very depths of the Nether she built a fortress.  A pure and holy fortress in the very heart of corruption.  Sareesa built, Mercy's Keep.  And from there she fought the demons on their own ground, greatly slowing the flow of demons into this world and safeguarding generations that she would know only through their prayers.  But for Sareesa, all would have been lost."

The crowd responds as one, "Lost and broken, but mercy prevailed."  Serran looked around, everyone's attention was on the figure in the front, if he did this right, he might be able to escape, to make it to a town and warn of this coven of heretics.

"In her wisdom, Sareesa tasked several heroes to gather the Great Crystals, Crystals that Sareesa would have used to destroy the Demon Gate forever, and then she would have returned to us, and lead us to paradise everlasting.  However, her former lover, and the greatest of her disciples envied her power, and together they struck her down.  In one dark moment, all hope for this world was destroyed.  Her lover took Sareesa's soul into his own body and vowed to battle her for eternity, all to keep our Goddess from us.  But for the hero Frelock, and his spreading of the Great Crystals to the world's magical centers, there by sating the crystals and weakening the gate, all would have been lost."  she speaks.

As Serran's eyes adjust to the silvery light he notices a great crescent blade strapped to her back.  She is wearing some kind of light battle armor, dyed muted hues of purple and green.  Her skin is pale, as though she only rarely saw the light of the sun.  Serran looked to the two Priestesses holding him, both were looking towards the pale-skinned Bishop, but they both still held a tight grip on his shoulders.  Looking closer he saw that these priestess were carrying smaller crescent blades as well.

"Today, is the day we put an end to the silence of the one, true Goddess.  Today, we who are gathered here, free our Goddess from her prison, and then, from among us, she will choose her new host, and she will take her vengeance against this world that she sacrificed so much to protect.  And finally, our Goddess will once again speak to us."

A desiccated corpse was brought into the center of the room.  Even from here, Serran and his limited abilities could detect the great and terrible power contained in the corpse.  The body was put on the floor in the center of the room.  Then, all the priestess in the room began chanting.  Magic filled the air so thick a light blue fog began to envelop the room.  The chanting became louder.  Finally the ritual was complete and a silvery light rained from the ceiling onto the corpse utterly destroying.  Then Serran was forced to kneel, his head to the ground as all the other priestesses did the same.  Serran desperately tried to think of some way out of this, but for now there was nothing.  At last, after half an hour of kneeling something happened.

The Bishop stood up.  "Sareesa has chosen.  All rise, and greet our glorious Goddess's return."  she said moving off to the side.

A small, timid human took the stage.  She moved with a confidence that her frame couldn't adequately represent.  Her blonde hair covered the right side of her face, while the other side seemed timid, smiling... happy.  The young girl coughed lightly.  "My dearest Priestesses, never did I expect to see the light of this world again, never did I expect to see the shining wonderful faces of mortals.  And yet, this joy comes with a tinge of sadness.  So far, this world has fallen from my ideal, from paradise.  There is only one cure, one solution for this world now.  We must purge the unbelieving, and bring this world back to the holiness I envisioned."  She says.  As she finishes there is a soft applause.  Sareesa moves off the stage and begins to move towards Serran.  "And he will be our herald."  Several of the Priestesses nearby grin wickedly.  Serran swallows hard, nervous about what exactly his future will be now that Sareesa has selected him to be her 'herald'.

Move into the bridge room while trying to keep the element of surprise. Upon arrival, crush the nearest opponent's weapon arm.

Time

Nepthym didn't think that was a happy laugh...but the brace of pistols being fired meant one thing-it was time to attack.

"Let's." Nepthym said calmly, drawing pistol and dagger and stepping beside Mordekehai.

Action: Move in with, and coordinate my attack with Mordekhai-fire off a pistol shot at whomever engages him/he engage.

Aegnor blinked. This would be quite a battle, and it wasn't out of the realm of possiblity that one of the party could die, like the dragonian. Sighing to himself, and uttering a short prayer to any gods that would hear him, he prepared for entry.

Cast holy shield on the group, then enter and throw the sleeping potion at the most likely strongest enemy.

"Hey wait! Let me come in first!" Akari said, tapping Mordekhai's armored shoulder. "They don't know you people, but perhaps they know that I was supposed to be a sacrifice thingy! Maybe my presence will give information and allow me to go up close for a taste of...fire?"

She smiled as the rest looked at her.

"Though, I do fear that I may be executed on the spot judging from the gunshots...Anything I could say to persuade them? What was their Captain's name again? Going straight to the point with a vendetta sounds nice...if my plan is alright.

"And I couldn't find any bandages. Sorry."

"Um...that's not too smart...I think they might have just thrown the captain out the window judging by the sounds in there. And if you were sacrificed, if they intended you to be possessed even, they'd know from sight. Our only advantage is first strike-and that's what we've got to do. Hit them hard and fast, while they're not expecting us." Nepthym said, quickly and quietly.

She seemed to remember something at that moment, standing up a little straighter.

"They wouldn't shoot if I did say something that would attract their attention...You could all ambush them then, if they all try to...err, strike me.

"Besides, if I was to be possessed, then confusion would spread amongst them. Supposedly, they would then ask first before shooting. Right? They can't have just killed the Captain!"

Aegnor coughed slightly.

"Lets not try to be heroes here.. Act like one and all you're going to get is a bullet between the eyes. I'm sure thats something that will heroically been talked about. Also, you're meant to be sacrificed. That generally means that you shouldn't be alive right now. I'm kinda sure that they would like to fix that fault."

Nepthym didn't know what to do. There was usually a chain of command for all this...

"...I'm sorry, there's no time for discussion. We go now." She said quietly, shaking her head.
