Defense was important, and a buckler, even if rusty, could be a great asset in the ensuing combats they'd face ahead. Every weapon had its worth, and the old shield would once more serve a purpose.

As Mordekhai saw the screaming man, he smiled softly and rose his gauntleted fist. Maybe a silent takedown was in order.

Take down the man with a punch to the throat.

Nepthym froze up, crouching down. She idly wondered if the noisy Knight could actually pull off some finesse work.

Action: Wait silent and still, ready to help Mordekhai if he messes up.

Damn, we've been spotted! Shruick's mind flew into action when he heard the first guard yell, but after a moment's pause realized the other two guards weren't paying attention. It won't stay that way for long, I've got to get in position, Shruick affirmed to himself.

Prepare to jump the other two guards

Watching the great armoured one attempt stealth whilst Nepthym looked on, Tikan looked over at Shruick. She motioned with her eyes and fingers for him to take the right hand of the other two guards. She'd take the left.

Hopefully she'd be able to rush up and cut his throat from behind before either of them noticed their companion was dead, if Mordekhai and Nepthym managed to take the jumpy one down...

Prepare to thrust the left hand guard in the throat.

((V-Norrec Update:  I'm feeling better, I'll probably be back soon, I want Serious to run this encounter though since he came up with it.  I'll be running the next set of obstacles though.  Good luck in the fight and thanks for putting up with my frail body and it's pathetic illnesses.))

((Oh yes, and for those interested in original intention, the ship was on it's maiden voyage as a luxury liner, the extra cells in the brig (which I didn't intend to be quite as large as it turned out being) were loot holders, mostly contraband.  It works out just as well this way though, it's going to make some of the later fights more. . . fun ))

Zealots and Demons, Turn 16: We're All About Necks

Mordekhai stepped forward and threw a punch at the guard's throat. [4. 1+1 damage] It was a light blow, meant only to KO him, but Nepthym immediately leaped in to follow Mordekhai up when the guard didn't drop. [4. 3+1 damage] Already caught off-guard once, he couldn't defend himself against the second attack and his throat was slit. He stumbled back and fell, getting the attention of the other two guards. As they rushed over to investigate...

[Tikan: 6. 6+1 damage.] [Shruick: 1.] [Aegnor: 5.] ...Tikan suddenly surged out of hiding, left hand leading, and planted a perfect haymaker in Alexei's throat. The guard gasped and sputtered, dropping to a knee with his hands around his neck. [Alexei is stunned and will act last next round.] Shruick, attempting to get ready to fight, accidentally dropped his weapon. It bounced off his foot and rolled under a nearby table. He quickly scrambled to get it. [Shruick will act second-to-last next round.] Aegnor, on the other hand, cleared his mind and raised his staff. He didn't want to have to fight, but he wasn't going to die here. [Aegnor can choose when to act next round, such as 'first', 'after Nepthym,' 'before Bernard,' etc. If no specification is given his initiative will be determined normally.]

Alexei: 2/9 HP, stunned, can't speak.
Bernard: 15/15 HP, heavily armored.
Corman: 0/6 HP, dead.

With his mind cleared, Aegnor was able to clearly think out what to do, and with surprising speed, he quickly cast Holy shield, before anyone else can react onto the party.

Slip

Nepthym tightened up her stance, letting the shield fully materialize before moving-it was a familiar spell to the girl, though to her senses, Aegnors magic was crude and impersonal. Holy Magic was a mixed bag. It helped, but it also brought her close to the attention of the Gods....She felt a bit of her control slip.

"Guilty. All of them guilty." She said in a ringing voice, like a crystal bell. It was quite unlike her own. A strong voice told her to obey her superior and aid the Crusader, and she could not disobey.

Nepthym shook her head and faded back, waiting for Mordek to engage-she would harry the enemy, making it easier for him to strike.

Action: Fade back and harry the target Mordekhai engages.

His punch didn't seem to have much effect, but the slice to the guard's throat worked fairly well after he was stunned.

Mordekhai watched the scene with a bit of interest before setting a firm foot on the ground and then breaking on a short hoplite charge, sprinting towards Bernard while angling his body to hit the man with his shoulder. Since the guard was heavily armored, he would be the crusader's target.

Bodyslam Bernard with a shoulder charge.

Tikan saw one guard fall; her own target drop stunned; the next lined up. He surely wouldn't last long. Time to finish up.

She stooped down, finished her enemy off, and quickly sprang back up to check their surroundings.

Stab the stunned guard in the neck then briefly scout/observe immediate area - for sights/sounds of further enemies in particular.

Shruick, in a bid to finish the other guard off quickly, flourished his sabre only to burst into a fit of pain drawing from the sprain he suffered earlier at the lock of that accursed door. The sabre falls, bouncing off the tip of his foot and bounding underneath a nearby table with a resounding clatter.

Shruick grimaces breifly during the dumbfounded shock resulting from his blunder. Today is not my day, with this luck it's a good thing I was never a gambler, Shruick resounds in his head as he scrambles to Retrieve the sabre and flank the last guard.

Just a reminder that every time you don't specify what kind of attack you're using (assuming you have any like Parry or Slam) I roll with Basic. So if, for example, Dwarmin intended to use a Backstab... too bad. :P

Zealots and Demons, Turn 17: Beast Mode Baddie

Quote from: Ochita
Holy shield, before anyone else can react

Aegnor finished his preparations and unleashed the Shield spell! (-6 Mana, 3 Shield for 3 turns) It wasn't the best spell he had ever cast, but it would hopefully suffice against two guards - especially if one was injured.

Quote from: Bernard
Thrust -> Tikan.
Roaring at the woman who had injured his friend, Bernard pulled his longsword from his belt and attacked! (4. 8-3 Shield=5 damage, -4 energy. Tikan will take 2 bleeding damage next turn.) His sword went through her torso - luckily, piercing nothing vital thanks to Aegnor's shield spell turning the blade slightly - and he kicked her back.

Quote from: Caellath
Bodyslam Bernard with a shoulder charge.
Quote from: Dwarmin
Fade back and harry the target Mordekhai engages.

(1.) Mordekhai attempted to shoulder-charge Bernard, but the heavily armored guard was able to step aside, grab him on the way by, and force him to run into the wall instead, temporarily stunning him. (Mordekhai will go last next round.) (3) As he turned his longsword went out again, catching Nepthym's dagger as it came toward his back in a parry. He shoved her away and took a few steps back to try and keep the party in his field of vision.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Stab the stunned guard in the neck then briefly scout/observe immediate area - for sights/sounds of further enemies in particular.

(4. 6 damage) Despite the pain and with one hand over her wound, Tikan finished off Alexei with a thrust through the throat. (1) She was more concerned with her injury than listening for reinforcements.

Quote from: CrimsonEon
Retrieve the sabre and flank the last guard.

(4. 4-2 Damage Resistance = 2 damage) Despite Bernard's efforts, he lost track of the Draconian. Shruick was able to slide behind him in the melee and struck him a powerful blow to the back, but luckily for the guard his armor took some of the hit for him.

Alexei: 0/9 HP, dead.
Bernard: 13/15 HP, heavily armored.
Corman: 0/6 HP, dead.

Mordekhai only groaned in annoyance as he hit the wall. Nothing too bad and he hadn't been hurt. But maybe it was time to try another thing.

Flail > Bernard's legs. Make it happen.

Balance

Nepthym concentrated on her target...

Action: Engage him, and keep his focus on me. Concentrate on evading his blows, tiring him out and leaving him vulnerable.
