"Akari, watch out!"
Akari noticed the creature waking, and heard Mordekhai's solemn words after.

She decided to look in their direction--letting Aegnor handle the abomination (with her thanks).

"Maria is mine!"
The many memories and thoughts converged at the trigger of her name...

...Nepthym had righted herself, watching the pirate girl fly off on a skiff. Yes, she was certainly a criminal-a pirate, a killer. But she had a life she had chosen-Freedom, even if she used that Freedom to choose a path of evil. Nepthym had heard her words...and she couldn't help but feel some admiration for Maria. She had chosen her life, and had no regrets about it.

"...well, she almost killed me, but I can't help but admire her. Too bad we're on different sides.." She had mentioned, a faint hint of regret in her voice.

Memories, like a piece of flotsam bobbing to the surface.

Whatever is left of Nepthym wonders if she would have become like Maria, if she had lived. She wonders if Maria was like her, once. Lost, lonely, and hunted. Angry. Beginning to view the world as abstract to keep from having to think too hard about what you do to survive. Life slowly turning into the great game, with other people as the pieces-better than being a peace. And eventually not caring at all.

Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 114:  Mission Complete!

Quote from: lawastooshort (initiative=94
Repeat thrust attack on Maria.

[1]  You stumble backwards as you pull your knife out.  You slash at Maria again, but in vain as she is now too far away for you to reach.

Quote from: Zako (initiative=93)
Charge and Slam the Abomination near Akari!

[6] You charge forward, but as Akari terrifies the beast you are unable to correct your course and end up running just past it.

Quote from: Fleur (initiative=90)
Stab Maria in the back once more!

[4] ([4]+[2]+2=8 damage)  Fleur finishes the job she came here to do, stabbing Maria in the back and piercing her heart with her dagger.  A schick is heard as her blade comes out of the bubbling wound, a puddle of blood quickly growing on the ground underneath her.

Quote from: Ochita (initiative=83)
Run at the Abomination that is near Akari, and Thrust attack it.

[6]  You charge as well, but in the end are left standing next to Akari as the abomination runs away from you.

Quote from: Tiruin (initiative=47)
Use Terrify at Maria! (redirected to Abomination 1)

[5] [4x2=8 damage]  Using your magic, you blend the physical and magical worlds together, a large blue creature with two heads, five eyes on each of them and exposed bone wings appears momentarily above you.  The whole thing is an illusion, but none can deny it's effectiveness as the abomination runs away.

Quote from: Abomination 1 (initiative=32)
Do something other than run away

[auto-fail]  The abomination runs away form Akari's terrifying spectral visage.

Quote from: Maria (initiative=24)
Die.

Maria reaches out towards the guns she's dropped.  She tries to grasp them, wield them once more but her hands don't cooperate with her.  "Damn the... luck." she says as the blood drains out of her.

Quote from: Caellath (initiative=09)
Normal attack at Maria (redirected to Abomination), heal anyone in the team who needs healing.

[4] [auto-kill] While you originally intended to destroy Maria, perhaps it is better this way.  You charge towards the abomination, a creature just as worthy as holy smiting, your flail whistling overhead as you bring it down into the creatures meaty parts with a sickening, wet thud the beast expires once more, no longer hunting the fox folk.

[4] [6 healed]  You heal the lowest health party member, Kael with a quick prayer.  As you do the warped reality seems to disappear, the pirates now embedded in wooden walls and the Abominations slowly disappearing.  By the door, a spirit clad in a robe takes shape.  It bows as it materializes but says nothing yet

Akari felt her breathing cloud her hearing as she looked at Maria, then at Fleur. She paid little heed to the spirit by the door.

"Why did you kill her," she said, moving up towards the Draconian. "Why...now?"

"It's what I had to do.  It is not my position to question." Fleur responds simply before leaning down.  "You might want to look away." she cautions

Glare at Fleur :I

"Well...I needed her alive."

Fleur shrugs, "I don't think she was in the mood for cooperating with whatever your endeavors were."  Fleur looks at Maria's corpse again before thinking better of what she was about to do.  She removes the cloak and gives it to Akari, "Here, give that to the Naga downstairs.  It should keep her warm enough to get to my house, from there we can decide what to do next."  The cloak is warm and wet with Maria's blood... drying it wouldn't be an awful idea, but given how Nuru was talking about Maria earlier she might not even care.

Aegnor coughed, both confused by Akari needing Maria alive, and the fact that an unknown spirit had appeared... What did the religious texts say about them again..?

Try to remember something about spirits appearing like this.

Mordekhai bows back.

"Greetings." he says after bowing out of simple courtesy. He isn't sure what the spirit wants, but decides to wait until it begins talking, specially since Tikan has already initiated contact.

Kael stepped forward towards the spirit and nodded.

"Maria is dead. Are the spirits in this place able to go to rest?"

Greet and inquire the spirit.

Akari hesitated before reluctantly grabbing Maria's bloody cloak and felt the warmth on her hands as she looked at the spirit.

She shuddered as several thoughts came about.

Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 115:  Or is it?

Quote from: Ochita
Try to remember something about spirits appearing like this.

[3] It's a long time to remember back, but in this instance it is clear what is going on, the great number of restless spirits are abusing the free energy of wild magic.  Once the wild magic disappears, this should just be like any other haunted house, creaky and old, not deadly and warping you through time.

What you do remember is quite brief but goes as follows.  "There are five easily identifiable realms, Physical, Magical, Spiritual, Divine, and The Warp.  Spiritual beings are generally incapable of interacting with the Physical realm except in a few cases.  1) They are given a font of power to draw from (usually of a Magical nature, though sometimes different gods have brought spirits into the world.) 2) They were a person of great power in life and are able to manifest themselves through great exertion in the Physical world for a relatively brief period of time. 3) The final exception is angelic creaturess.  angels are primarily spiritual beings, most having no physical body that you can see, however, blessed in nature as they are, they are able to constantly manifest themselves in either the Spiritual, Physical, or Divine realms.  If an Angel is killed, his/her armor is seems at once to go completely lifeless (unless acted upon by another force) and they are reborn in the Divine realm at an altar devoted to that god after their formless body makes the quest back to that spot.  Should they die a second time, they are truly lost and must be recreated by their patron god.  Some very few angels have been granted complete physical bodies as well, these angels are known as archangels, and represent some aspect of a god."

Quote from: lawastooshort
Bow back to the spirit.

”Greetings. I am called Tikan, and these are my various companions. How do you call yourself?”

[auto-success]  Greetings Tikan.  I am Sister Superior Eve.  You have succeeded in eliminating the pirates who corrupt this place.  I have one further request.  There remains here the creature that created the dolls that you fought earlier, I would ask of you to eliminate it.  Of course I well ensure you are adequately compensated for your efforts.  I can show you the path if you wish it.

Quote from: Caellath
Mordekhai bows back.

"Greetings." he says after bowing out of simple courtesy. He isn't sure what the spirit wants, but decides to wait until it begins talking, specially since Tikan has already initiated contact.

[auto-success] You bow back to the spirit and listen as it converses with Tikan and Kael.

Quote from: Zako
"Maria is dead. Are the spirits in this place able to go to rest?"

Greet and inquire the spirit.

[auto-success]  Yes, many of them will return now to rest.  Some will continue to fight the world of the living, that is to be expected however.  Murderers have died here along with the innocent.  What I ask of you though is for the good of any future visitors, as well as the innocent spirits that still reside here.

Recall knowledge regarding spirits, in this context--connected to its posture and stance, infer what it is.

[3]  Well, outside of being a Sister Superior you can confirm the ghost is one related to the Acolytes of Sareesa

Quote from: Fleur
Take a momento from Maria.

[6] Fleur looks at the corpse before ultimately hacking off Maria's hand while nobody is paying attention to her.

((So you've probably noticed updates are a bit slower than they were at the start.  This is because I am in training for a full-time job I was offered and which I have accepted.  It's eating in to my free time substantially.  I want you to know though that I am still going to be running this game, it might just be at a slower pace than it was at once point.  (Also my computer ate this post once before which delayed this further)  I thought you all deserved an explanation however.))

(About the post being eaten: first, I offer condolences; back when I GM'd that shit infuriated me to no end too. >.< Second, do you use Firefox or a derivative like Ice Dragon? There's an extension called Lazarus that can help prevent that if so. It might work for other browsers, but it's been awhile since I've installed it, so...)
