Re: Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 92: DEATH WAIL!
« Reply #1320 on: June 05, 2014, 12:18:22 pm »

"Do you suppose finishing the mutated man will elicit a similar result to destroying a doll?" Mordekhai asks, referring to the death wail the destroyed wooden doll produced. His is still gaze focused at the ex-pirate as he decides to prevent a possible disaster rather than fixing it, therefore moving to Akari in order to heal her from the recent harm.

Lesser Heal upon Akari.

((I like how we're fully able to interact despite being rooms apart :3
...Mordekhai can heal?!))

"Well if anyone has information regarding these ghosts, then I'm all ears. I can't find any relevant source in this book that'd be up to plans though," Akari said as she shut the book. ...Alright, they're not ghosts but spirits. Hmph.

"I wonder why there was murder in the first place. Mutations don't necessarily cause that."

Feel the surrounding atmosphere/air. Other than a possible malevolence, sense if there are any connections leading to specific locations. Concentrated areas of magic.

Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 94:  Mysterious Altar

Quote from: Ochita
Once the doll-pirate is dead, continue onwards!

[6] You watch the doll-pirate bleed out on the ground.  You nearly lose your lunch again.  You stay put rather than charging ahead for now.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Examine the papers again - is there any cluse as to how long ago these events were? Head to the dining room and investigate very thoroughly for any further hidden compartments or items or clues.

[auto-success]  The events appear to have taken place about three hundred years ago. [2] You enter the dining room but are too taken aback by the doll-pirate hybrid laying on the ground.  That was.... unexpected.  You can only imagine the horror he went through as his body changed, becoming that of the doll.

Quote from: Caellath
Lesser Heal upon Akari.

[4] [6 healed]  You heal Akari.  As you cast yoou briefly catch a glimmer of something out of the corner of your eye.  [4]  As you approach it, you recognize it as a holy symbol.  This must be relating to the priestesses that owned the manor for a time.  You reach out and wipe the dust of the long neglected altar.  Something stirs as you do.  The altar glows blue with magic for a moment until you instinctively recoil.  You begin to suspect the wild magic has trapped each room in a separate time.

Quote from: Tiruin
Feel the surrounding atmosphere/air. Other than a possible malevolence, sense if there are any connections leading to specific locations. Concentrated areas of magic.

[5]  Looking past the immediate presence of the dolls and malevolent spirits/ghosts you look for specific connections from and to this place.  The sheer number of threads leading here astounds you.  Over the years more than one hundred people have died here, many of them violently.  Immediately however, you are drawn to the dining room.  A mana font exists in the altar there.  Perhaps you could seek that god's blessing, or rework the mana of the altar into something more immediately useful.

Quote from: Zako
Basic attack on the downed pirate. Curb stomp!

[5] [6+2x2=16 damage]  You briefly consider the necessity of this but then proceed to stab the doll-pirate just to be sure it doesn't get back up.

Quote from: Fleur
Approach the altar and examine it.

[3]  Fleur kneels beside the altar by Mordekhai.  "I don't recognize this symbol, does it mean anything to you Monsieur?  It feels familiar... but different."

Enemies:
Half-Wooden Pirate 1:  [auto-success]  Bled out on the ground.

((As you probably have gathered after each room has been cleared there is a small puzzle or treasure portion.  I'm trying to spread out the love a bit so I'd appreciate not turning this all into a contest.  There are 5 rooms on the first floor, you call all get something.  So far Kael, Akari (to a lesser extent because I was going to punish her for a bad roll rather than just free treasure) and Tikan have all collected a benefit of one form or another.  By my reckoning this one most fits either Aegnor or Mordekhai, just because those two seem to be the most religious.  Just wanted to inform you all there was no need to fight over it.  Doll is still in the corner in case anyone wants to go blow it up or something by the way.))

Kael sighed in relief.

"The sooner we're out of here, the better. Let's keep searching."

Resume the search for the pirate. Keep a teammate close for backup.

((It's been a while so I don't remember whether Mord has a religion in the traditional sense. He's full of faith, but I don't know exactly its target, partially because I don't know/forgot whether the Zealots worship a single god. Funny, isn't it?))

Mordekhai was moderately satisfied the healing spell had gone off without a hitch when something caught his eye. "I am not sure, madam." the crusader answers as he also approaches the altar in order to examine it.

Examine the altar, but don't do anything brash.

Akari moved into the dining room and looked over the altar. It had a funny strange symbol.

"I can discern that a hundred or more have died in this area for a year or more ago. Funny to see altars around. What can you tell of this one Mordekhai?" the Kitsune said. "And rather, why a material object such as a doll would love to possess the living, perhaps?"

"Trying to identify it from memory." Mordekhai answers Akari, touching the altar's surface.

Akari blinks at the response.

From...memory huh?
She glanced aside. There were many memories she wanted and had, suppressed--she really hoped these were not one of them.

Memory recall! Anything I can think of to aid in this situation?

Aegnor Shuddered, the dead or destroyed doll-pirate causing him to nearly throw up. Shuddering, he looked away only to see Mordekhai back away from an altar, a blue glow present for a moment until it winked out. Aegnor looked at the altar, and sighed, relaxing a small amount, before stolling down next to mordekhai, resting his hands on the altar. "An altar.. Hm? Let us hope that it is owned by a benign god, although judging on how its in the dining room, its probably not for any prohibited gods. Let us hope that works in our favour."

Investigate that Altar!

Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 95:  Scantily Clad Wood

Quote from: Zako
Resume the search for the pirate. Keep a teammate close for backup.

[5]  You open the door to the next room and enter.  There are two scantily clad wooden women here.  Looking around you see that this appears to be a 'lounge' in this room.  At a guess this is from an entirely different era than the previous three rooms.  An era in which this place was used as a brothel.  The wooden women turn their heads towards you for a moment before getting up from their chairs.  The Their are several screens and various furniture, most of it shows evidence of previous use.

Quote from: Caellath
Examine the altar, but don't do anything brash.

[2] You continue examining the altar but no answers are apparent to you right away.  With all the gods there are, you aren't really sure which one this could be.  A god of food perhaps?  Wine possibly?

Quote from: Tiruin
Memory recall! Anything I can think of to aid in this situation?

[4]  You remember from your time growing up in the Wild Magic seeing this symbol in several of the shrines that at one point or another were engulfed in your ever-changing home.  You remember them as places of calm, serenity, and despite all the Wild Magic around them, of great power.  It was as though those buildings couldn't be touched by the Wild Magic or it's corruptions.  [1]  You found a book in one once, you suspected it to be a religious tract though and threw it out not thinking it important.  You wish that you had read at least the cover or first couple of pages right now though.

Quote from: Ochita
Investigate that Altar!

[5]  You approach the altar and trace the symbol for a bit, it seems familiar... You recognize it from just a few days ago.  Jacelyna had a very similar symbol as the head of her staff.  She was a Priestess of Sareesa, though this symbol seems different, definitely pre-dating the current time period.  [3] You attempt to tell the if the goddess would respond to prayer, but as best you can tell right now it is simply non-malevolent.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Follow Kael as back up. Follow stealthily at a short distance just in case.

[3]  You manage to stay out of sight by hiding just behind the door into the next room.  You did catch a quick look inside, surely this next room was a place of debauchery if ever there was one.

Quote from: Fleur
Throw Rusty Caltrops at the feet of the the scantily clad wood women.

[5]  Fleur throws out a perfect field of caltrops around the women... of course it might not be a good idea to get close to them right now.

Enemies:
Scantily clad wood woman 1:  [3] Somehow the wooden woman giggles and blows a kiss at Kael, he appears to be mildly enchanted with the woman.
Health:  25/25
Mana:  8/10
Status:  Caltrops, take 5 damage if a movement action is taken.

Scantily clad wood woman 2:  [4]  The woman runs, stabbing her wood feet several times with the caltrops.  [6]  She attempts to strike Kael but Kael moves too quickly and dodges the attack.
Health:  20/25
Mana:  10/10
Status: None

Character Status
Spoiler: Aegnor Tinúviel (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Mordekhai Sarvedon (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Akari Talria (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Tikan (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Kael Jungothr (click to show/hide)

((I'm going to mini-turn the next actions for Akari, Aegnor and Mordekhai so they can try to collect this treasure.  Also to answer an earlier question, there are somewhere around 1,000 major gods and innumerable minor gods, of which Sareesa was at one point nearly universally worshipped on this world.  After her corruption and then death her worship declined and once again nearly all the gods are worshipped again.  Most people worship a few Gods or devote themselves to only one.  The reason for this is that the Gods are fickle and changing the object of your worship (at least between non-aligned gods) will make them quite angry and likely to mess around with you.  As an example, a god of valor might accept you changing the main god you worship to an affiliated god of healing, but if you start worshipping a god of battle, he'd do something to you for changing primary religion.  Due to the extreme number, feel free to create your own with it's own traits and I'll work with it.  Just don't expect to be a champion of that particular god.  If you choose to worship either Malgun or Sareesa, we'd probably need to discuss that as it will be a major part of the plot later.))

Aegnor stiffened, before standing up and walking slightly away from the altar. Thinking to himself, he mentally gave a sad sigh. This altar belongs to the same god that the cultist did, Jacelyna... Although its older, much older. This isn't going to be fun to speak of.. Poor Mordekhai. Shaking himself out of his thoughts, he gave a sigh. "This symbol.. It's an earlier version of the symbol that Jacelyna had.. Oh... T-the Cultist had.. " He looked at Mordekhai, before continuing. "I do not detect any malevolence in this altar, but I do not know if the god would answer our prayers, if we actually wished to pray to such a god."
