((Welp okay so if I burn each one, and if we all heal each time..... ...No? XP))

Aegnor gave a short yelp, the death wail causing him to fall into a unresponsive state, and he gave no resistance as mordekhai soundly lead him out of the basement, and back upstairs. It was only when Mordekhai let him go that he finally reacted to what had just happened. Shivering slightly, he got to his feet and leaned against a wall, the colour drained from his face. Apon hearing Akari's words, he slowly shook himself out of it, his face still pale however.
"R..Right. Akari, unless that book has a treatise on spirits, I dont think its going to be a great deal of help. Only a spirit could've caused such a wail in its final moments..." Aegnor shook his head, trying to remove the memory of that deathly wail.

Aegnor heeds Akari's words, and goes to the dining room to Aid Kael in whatever situation he's in.

Sit quietly in the corner and skim read my stack of old writings - is there anything that might explain the terrible spirits around here?

In the corner with Akari, if as I believe I was dragged out of that room :)

Nepthym was, perhaps, no more than a spirit of air now-as the regard her former friends fell for her faded to yellowed pictures of her face and dusty recollections of her voice, so too did her desire to reside on the Earth that was. She wanted the wind again, flying free, soaring...

But, when the evil spirits had came, she had come back from the forevernever in defiance-fought them to keep them away from her friends. And she still fought-around the rim of eternity and just in that moment, her weapons swung as swiftly as they ever had in life. Hungry, vicious spirits! She would not let them hurt her friends! Her Mordekhai! The man whom she remembered in most detail...how he had held her tenderly in death, and given her the peace she never had in life-just for that moment, but to echo in her own eternity.

Did anyone notice what she did? Did any mark her spectral blades-the ones she kept-as they passed through the things that were not there? Not cutting flesh, but weakening ghostly energy that sought to connect to living tissue, or render it lifeless? Doubtful. No one could see or mark her efforts. Her voice made no words upon the air, not a battle cry or a scream of pain. Even her tears faded to nothing before falling to the dusty floorboards. Her battle was in another place-a place only the dead could touch and see, usually-expending her positive emotions with every swing to counter the negative ones. She was sorely outnumbered. Alone. Easier to flee, to fly, to soar...to forget...but, she was past fear and doubt now.

There was only the mission-as there always had been.

She thought she might truly be destroyed here, overwhelmed by the anger of this place, or worse perhaps to become one of these beings in the end. Was a true twice-death penance enough for a wasted life?

((Will we need to roll for SAN every time we see one of the dolls or did we get used to them?))

After setting Aegnor and Tikan down, Mordekhai stares at Akari. "Finding a way to destroy those dolls without allowing them to release those ghostly wails seems to be a pressing matter." he says before turning his attention to Kael's strange attacker. "Even more so before they have a chance to perform that kind of mutation."

Assist in defending Kael from the half-wooden pirate if necessary.

"Summoning is hard work," Akari said in her controlled-stress tone, flipping through another page, "It's hard to note down the purposes of summoning a creature here, but it's also worse to note how much control I can direct over it--if its benevolent and doesn't mind control, and if I have enough to even do so. Something that would work in 4 out of those 17 requirements is good enough for me, Mordekhai."

((Do remember the whole information about summoning in the turn was solely for Akari, so that's the first time Khai's hearing something about it.))

Mordekhai glances back at the foxfolk - as far as glancing is allowed with a helmet like his. "Is summoning a creature your chosen way of dealing with the doll? Nevertheless, I trust you with these occult matters. For now, I will try to assist Kael's efforts in fending off the enemy."

((Entirely so :P That is Akari, having known the context, trying to explain it as best as she can while also flipping through droves of information! \o/))

"I-it's not occult! It's...a studied practice and proven by...common knowledge! And thank you! I will! Too!" Akari responds, her tail *paff*ing against the wall.

Take care...Mordekhai. Nepthym be with you..

((The rolls are whenever you get close to the dolls, hence why I suggested summoning something or creating some kind of spell to destroy them, though then you don't get the benefit of having Maria either be dead or damn close to it by the time you reach her.))

Zealots and Demons, The Fall of a God, Turn 93:  Achille's Manor

Quote from: Tiruin
Akari chose to browse through the book in search of any summon she could ask aid from in regard to this whole conundrum. She needed something to feed--or rather, something to divert and direct (rather than just gobble all this up, didn't sound well to her) the wild magic.

Also collect ye dust.

[2]  You look through the book for something intelligent enough to advise you in this situation.  Your search fails to reveal any useful results however.

[5]  You go and collect two portions of the dust and then return to your current location.

Quote from: Ochita
Aegnor heeds Akari's words, and goes to the dining room to Aid Kael in whatever situation he's in.

[2]  You enter the dining room but just sort of stare at the hideous wooden pirate thing.  The fact such things are even possible terrifies you more than the dolls existence.

Quote from: lawastooshort
Sit quietly in the corner and skim read my stack of old writings - is there anything that might explain the terrible spirits around here?

[auto-success]  ((If only because I don't want there to be a failure state on reading information of semi-critical to the story nature))

The writings are from a variety of sources.  Some from a newspaper, others are journal entries from various people in the house.

It is hard to believe my own flesh gave birth to such a hideous... thing.  If news got out that our family had given birth to that creature we would be eternally shamed.  I must hide him while I search for an answer.

The basement is finished, we will house him there in secret, from there he will live as normal a life as he can.  I feel a pang of guilt about putting him through such things but we simply cannot allow ourselves to be put through that kind of shame.

I went to the basement today... I saw my brother there.  He could barely talk and was heavily mutated.  Father always warned me not to go to the basement but I didn't listen.  After Mom's death I always thought he was being overly harsh to my brother but I can see the truth now.

Something has changed in young Albrecht.  He used to play and swim, but now he is morose and barely has the energy to do anything it seems.  I think perhaps it is ill humor caused by the unseasonably warm weather, it should pass with time.

Father and the servants continue on as though nothing has changed, but we are living with another person locked in our basement.  I've resolved to free him.  Nobody deserves this fate.

The Achille Manor was searched today after a two week period of no one hearing anything from the Manor.  Inside all of the servants and Master Achille were found murdered.  Most had been brutalized with various household implements.  His son wasn't found and authorities are currently searching for him.

The Achille child was found today standing over the corpse of a badly mutated Draconian suspected of being related to him.  Authorities tried to take him in for questioning but he responded violently and was killed at the scene of the crime.

Well, that answers the question about the dungeon... but didn't some Priestesses live here for a time as well?  Perhaps there is more to learn somewhere else.

Assist in defending Kael from the half-wooden pirate if necessary.

[3] [5+1/2=3 damage]  You rush into the dining room and swing your flail at the Pirate's torso.  The wood cracks revealing working internal organs in there... creepy.

Quote from: Zako
Basic attack to the legs! Bring him down and chop him to pieces!

[5] [2+2x2=8 damage] You attack the legs bringing him down to the ground, though the chopping into bits has yet to take effect.

Quote from: Fleur
Backstab the Pirate.

[4] ([5]+[2]+2=9 damage]  Fleur approaches the downed pirate and being stabbing him in the back repeatedly.

Enemies:
Half-Wooden Pirate 1:  [1]  The pirate lays on the ground, just like the doll over in the corner
Health:  2 of 30
Inventory:  Carving Knife
Status:  Separated, 2 damage per turn until reunited or dead.

Aegnor entered the dining room, but stopped straight in his tracks when he saw the wooden doll. Something about it made him just stop, and he stared at it. He continued staring even when Mordekhai, Kael and fleur delivered their assaults showering wood and exposing organs. He stared at it when it was just lieing on the floor, pitiful and yet horrifying. Aegnor just barely managed to not vomit or gag, today was not his day.

He decides to wait until it is truly dead, and then walks over to it. "This... I dont want us to spend any more time in here than is necessary, let us hurry to maria. I don't want us to share the same fate as this man."

Once the doll-pirate is dead, continue onwards!

"Hmm," says Tikan, half to herself, half to Akari, "The spirits of the brutally murdered? I wonder how many more there are. And I wonder where the two sons went, and which of them was the murderer..."

Examine the papers again - is there any cluse as to how long ago these events were? Head to the dining room and investigate very thoroughly for any further hidden compartments or items or clues.
