The messenger seems satisfied with that and departs. The forges of the elves toil away, and to the south, the grim armies of unicorns ride on to claim a sword older than any sacred stone, older than time itself.

Previously, when the humans appeared to have the advantage, a secret agreement was forged between the dwarves and elves to set aside their differences in the face of a greater enemy. However, as the elves move forward in their plan to collect the artifacts, the humans and the dwarves would be defeated simultaneously, and the dwarves would have no way to stop the elves without breaking the agreement. It is no longer potentially beneficial for the dwarves to keep peace with the elves, except in the interest of mithril arms. This constitutes a formal public withdrawal of the old agreement.
