Beekeeping bug/feature?
« on: August 12, 2012, 03:36:18 pm »

I'm asking because I intend to mod in new kinds of hive-able insects: Is it true that anything brought to a hive turns into CREATURE:HONEY_BEE ? I kinda got that impression from the wiki entry.

I don't believe so. An easy way to test it would be to make ants hivable and see if they turn into bees.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

No, all creatures may be safely kept in hives.

Cue zombees as defense.

Could you point out exactly which wiki entry states this? Because it's completely bogus...

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

This is tangential but I can't be the only person incredibly disapointed when I found out that you can't pit bees? ...I really wanted to drop 100k bees on a goblin siege.

One does not simply put bees into a bag and pour them. :D

As I understand it, only bees are hivable. Bees come in two forms - honey and bumble (is it just me or does that sound like pet names of a recently married couple?) But when bumblebees are hived they become honeybees due to a bug (no pun intended)

I know that feel. Tried to put millions of bees into a cage, not even one ;(

Is that actually a real bug, or is it just some newbie assuming that a dwarf picked up a bumblebee hive when it was actually honey bees? Because I'm pretty sure it's the latter...
