it certainly wasn't bad every day, but over the course of 21+ months it happened often enough that it was the biggest complaint.

Bit of a necro, but after not playing for...maybe a year I got an e-mail about the game going out of beta. Logged in and messed around for a bit but kinda found things uninspiring. Most of my gear doesn't work any more (it's all too high level for me), so I'm kinda stuck with base level gear. I've also had lots of issues using the molecular printer.

Anyone else gotten back into this? Or played recently enough to let me know how things have been changing?

I've just started playing, but wasn't playing in any of the past incarnations of the game, so I don't really know how it's changed. I do like it and there don't seem to be major lag issues that I can see. I've only played twice so far (although the second time was for about 5 hours last night), but so far it seems fun.

One question to anyone that might know: Is there any way to transfer/trade items or currency between players? I'm just getting errors when I try and mail things to people in-game and google just turns up a bunch of stuff from 2013 about people asking for trading and the devs replying with "a mail system is coming." Never mind. Found out you need to be friends with people for 3 days or more to mail things.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I've been playing for a bit. Got to the mission where you get dropped into a bad place and the dropship leaves you and you have to repair a crashed one to get out. Finished all that but got stuck on the resulting loading screen. I've also had some missions simply glitch out on me, such as not spawning all of the objectives and waiting for me to blow them up without them actually being there. Another time I was told to escort Corporal Dickbag and his squad back to town and instead he teleported back (it said something was activated) and when I went to the waypoint the squad was chilling out on the dance floor and yelling at me to hurry up.

When I started the game I didn't notice any option to change what region you play in, so for all I know I could be playing on a EU server, which would explain the lag I'm getting. Melee attacks are really glitchy and unresponsive, which is too bad, it's really useful when it actually does work.

I just picked this up this weekend, and I have to say that so far it's been lots of fun.  They've applied a couple of patches recently, and that seems to be cleaning up some of the glitches nicely.

I tried it again and uninstalled it after 2 days, its just not good enough (and not going to slog thru the poor parts to get to any supposed good parts, even if its free).  Some others I talked to like it and say its ok with groups past like lvl 20ish or something but blergh, I think its just too flawed.

I don't know what MMO's obsession with making the game boring until you hit certain levels.

There is one thing to hold the game's nuance and full depth until later and HECK Resonance Of Fate shows what happens if you give the players essentially everything from the start... and then there is "Only top level players need apply for the fun bus!"

Both Tera Online (Level 20-25 until the game gets fun) and DCUO (Level 30-35 until it gets fun) were games I just decided "No, I am done" before getting to the fun levels.

It is to the extent that whenever I play a new MMO one of the first things I ask to the community is what level I need to get to until the game is fun... Then tell them I am being serious and not trolling.

Sounds more like a personal thing. While it's true some MMOs start out boring (usually due to a lack of options, due to a lack of skills), if they typically aren't fun for some reason early on, they're probably not ever going to be fun.

That's why World Of Warcraft is so popular. It is fun on every level.

Originally it was to milk subscription fees. Now it's because that's what people expect from the genre.

Every WoW player I've known went through low level content as fast as possible so they could get to "the real game". I cannot count how many times I've been told to keep playing an MMO because I "haven't gotten to the fun part yet".

I'm getting a shovel and a defibrilator here and reviving this topic because I'd like to know if anyone still plays Firefall?
Call this a post-mortem or something.

After 1 or 2 years that I let it sit, I come back and once again my stuff is all wiped. That's fine..just probably the fourth or fifth wipe. At least I retain some levels, XP and unlocked Battleframes..which doesn't make a lot of sense since systems and balancing/currency changed a lot.
Anyways, they reworked everything further and now the game is just a generic MMORPG with a MMOFPS engine/control scheme. I don't get it.
I had a blast back in Beta. You'd just group up with random people and get infinite XP, stuff and fun just defending the map from the Chosen. Slowly, the game was taking a beautiful direction.

Yesterday I've played for around 3 hours with a RL friend who never played it, and even he (an eternal WoW/MMORPGs player) said "Ah, this is a default MMORPG. I can get used to it quickly."

I mean, from the looks of the last posts, the kind of things I'm saying is what people were already getting.
What's the worst, I think I never spend so much money in a game. 100-200 USD through years and a good amount of hope.

I do like how the map evolved. It used to be pretty desert and "mankind is screwed", and now there's stuff and buildings everywhere, because the story seems to actually have advanced.
But what's weird, after those ~3h of gameplay, I didn't see a single invasion/incursion/enemy patrol/Chosen Death Squad/actual fun stuff. Just grind. What happened? Why kill the good part?

One might argue "the grind is fun!", and it kinda is for the first hour. Then you see you're just doing "Kill 10 Rats", "Bring back my amulet" quests left and right until you unlock story quests and instances which are a bit more involved, but just MMORPG stuff.

Anyways, I had to get this out of my system, so I apologize to the board.

There's also a thing I never understood: the game's in Brazil, yet everything in the game is "Tiki" and "Hawaiian" stuff. Me and my friend are from Brazil, and..:
Him: "Is this Hawaii? Why are the areas in Portuguese?"
Me: "Look at the map, then zoom it out."
Him: "Uh...oh..what..what the fuck?"

TLDR: Lesson learned. Personally, I doubt I'll ever be a founder for a game again. Not because of Firefall alone, of course.
But I always noticed how they suddenly took the game in an MMORPG direction as to appeal to a greater audience.
I'd be fine with that..if the actual, original game wouldn't die buried by that crap.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

It's been more than a year since I played a MMOFPS and I'd love to get back into one...unfortunately, I've already played Firefall, Planetside2 and Defiance enough to get put off by their shortcomings and there doesn't seem to be much else offering  :(

Firefall is okay. I liked the combat, but the quest system was atrocious. Their stupid "dynamic"/whatever quest system that placed the quest stuff in a random place on the map (usually far away from you!) made it impossible to have unique/different quests. Instead you just get "kill 100 bugs IN A DIFFERENT PLACE! WOW! WHAT RANDOM GENERATION! SO MUCH FUN!"

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

And now I am sad because I was hoping recently that this game might have evolved some and become something more than it was.  Instead I hear that the parts that were good are buried or removed.
