Unless you happen to die while solo thumping... then you lose the investment on the thumper.

And what are resources good for?

Right, getting more resources.  Reaaalllly not a big loss.  I blew up two of the largest thumpers on the same day and had enough resources to rebuy them only a few hours later.

High level gear also takes damage from use and dying. But, yeah, not a huge issue.

I think it really just comes down to personal preference. I'm having run running around shooting bugs and blasting around with jetpacks, but I'm perfectly willing to admit that the game is lacking in many areas. If those areas matter to you more, you're better off playing something else.

the game is lacking in many areas

Which basically answers my question:
Has the gameplay changed?
And the answer is no.

No, core gameplay hasn't really changed any.

Personally, I'm having more fun playing it than I did when I last checked it out a few months ago, so I'd say the feel of the gameplay has improved. But the basics are all pretty much the same.

Fwiw, this went open beta yesterday.  I've not had a chance to check it out, but skimming patch notes suggests there's at least one 5-person PvE instance added now, along with "Melding Pockets", whatever those are.  Also a new PvP match type.

They still haven't added any gameplay content. It's so odd. I have been testing this game for 2 years and they just don't listen. The same performance issues are still present. The same lack of content is still there. Every few months they would pull down the "beta" and go through a redesign and relaunch with almost nothing changed.
The biggest change to the game is the tutorial section which is strong but actually feels completely different than the rest of the game. This game and studio has a major identity crisis. For a long time they wanted to compete with Global Agenda(yup, it is that old) and then people clamored for PVE content so they said they were moving in that direction, except they only added 5 missions that get repeated forever. The entire forum and the army of testers all stated that this was not enough so the devs said they will fix it and that was 8+ months ago. Nothing really new at all. I want to like this game so much, I have given them sweat and tears but I think it's just going to flop over and over until they pull the plug. It's dragging the studio out of business and nobody is going to want to buy it.

It's sad. There is a seed of a good game under a huge pile of manure, but I don't think it can grow.

That is why adding too much fertilizer is a bad thing, you essentially salt the fields.

As someone who worked in Marketing and Advertising in and out of the games industry...I must say they do a brilliant job of marketing the game considering nobody knows what it is or what the point is. The development lead needs to be reassigned though. A few more years working at a lower level might give him the experience needed to coordinate such a large project.

Well, we'll see. According to the timeline they posted a little while back, we're still early in the 'add PvE content' which is supposed to be the focus of development for the near future.

How much of that happens we'll have to see. But there is some new stuff with the melding pockets, so they're doing something at least.

I'd like to think that's the case, but why did they go open beta with nothing new and no added stability/performance?

Well, their open beta launch appears to be having serious server issues, with big delays on things like unlocks, equipment changes, etc going through.  So I guess checking out the new content (or lack thereof) will have to wait a while, at least for me.

That's exactly how it was almost all of the time in closed beta, so I don't know if or how soon it will be fixed.

I didn't really have issues with that during closed beta, but it's been pretty bad this week. I'm hoping they figure out whatever their problem is and get it fixed soon.

On one hand, this kind of load testing is what open beta is supposed to be for. On the other hand, it's annoying to log in and find the game pretty much unplayable because SIN is down or generally unresponsive.

I played in closed beta and never had any real problems in that regard (I tell a lie, the first day was pretty bad, but after that it was fine), but my period of play only spanned a few weeks so I maybe just hit a good patch.
