Scurvy Sea Dogs
« on: August 11, 2012, 01:10:42 pm »

Yes, another one of these threads. I'm looking for games that let you control a scurvy crew of greasy sailors. Games with RPG and strategy elements. Games that let you ride the seas in search of profit and adventure.

Games like...

Age of Pirates

Pirates of the Western Sea

Warband (With mods...)

Expedition Roguelike

Sid Meier's Pirates. It's all I got.

Uncharted Waters. I could have sworn I knew more, but that's all I can think of besides Pirates!.

Pirates of Black Cove

I'm not saying it's a good game, but it fits your criteria.

Pirates will always be a classic. Always.

Uncharted Waters was pretty cool. It did the supply and crew systems well and the skill tree and PVP were interesting enough to be worth working for. Combat was fun too, if a bit simple.

Pirates of the Black Cove. Dohohohoho. Still worth a mention though.

I've always wanted to try Fall From Heaven 2. Never had Civ IV till now though. To the downloads!

YARRRRRRRRRRRRRR ME 'ARTIES!

There's one on steam called Buccaneer: something something. I got it in a sale a while ago, pretty decent. You get to do broadsides, which is something criminally underrepresented in video games.

The multiplayer was dead when I bought it though, and that was like over a year ago. You can probobly get it dirt cheap in the next sale.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is pretty good, though it's an mmo of the type that's free with microtransactions.
Puzzle Pirates is also good... but it involves puzzles, and is also an mmo.

I played a demo to a game called Corsairs a long long time ago.  I remember enjoying it and having fun, but also that parts of the interface could be...  Tedious.  Either that, or my young mind was just completely missing something obvious.

In any case, it's got ships, trading, different types of shot, boarding...  Well, yeah.  Whatever one might expect from something like this.

Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas
Pretty much Pirates but a bit more serious and with far more options.

There was one game, I played it back on the original Xbox. It was (very) loosely based off of Pirates of the Carribean, but I can't remember if it was named after the series or if it was just called Pirates.

It was actually an excellent game, I do not remember it very well, but you played some nameless protagonist and it had both ship-based and 3rd person segments, and you recruited your own crew(often with their own backstories), fought decent naval battles and could even raid ports.
I don't remember it very well, sadly. I would be interested in knowing what the game was called, myself.

Actually, I found it here.
It's actually quite a good game, if memory serves. :) I shall have to track down a copy.

Out of the always still very enjoyable old Pirates! in a slightly different gameplay (but sharing some similar traits), Uncharted Waters : New Horizon (2nd game in that serie) is a great pirate game.

Though the DOS version may crashes sometime in DOSBox when you click on the menus in some buildings. So you may want to use the SNES version (unfortunately losing then the nice mouse driven interface and in my eyes losing slightly nicer visuals but gaining complete stability).

The guys that developed With Fire and Sword are making a pirate themed game called Carribean! Mount & Blade with pirates, apparently. There was actually a mod made for the original Mount and Blade, but the creator left it for other projects, and now it's only compatible with version .762 or something like that.
