Anyone knows what the most stable 40d version is?
« on: August 11, 2012, 10:52:30 am »

Hi,

I want to play a little bit of 40d again, but realised soon that the last version got a big amount of bugs, like the crippled Adventurer mode for example. So does anyone know the last version with the best functionality.

Thanks in advance

By "40d", do you mean "0.28.181.40d[0-19]" or do you mean "the 22 releases (not counting the OpenGL optimization builds) between 0.23.130.23a and 0.31.01"?

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

0.28.181.40d, I suppose would be the most stable version of 40d.

Unless you know of other .28.181.40d releases.

There were 19 more of them, mostly incorporating changes to rendering and input stuff done by Baughn and friends.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I randomly checked this version: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=50514.0

Quote
- Adventure mode is pretty much broken, and going to stay that way until DF2010
...
- Bridge linking is broken

So I just want to be sure to get a version that is mostly playable.

Just play standard 0.28.181.40d then.
It's the most stable version before DF 2010.

The "crippled" adventure mode in 40d is not a bug. That's just what there was before DF2010. Get the latest version, it's the most stable and runs fastest.

No. There were some adventure mode features that were present in earlier versions but got removed later.
Like undead warriors in the city ruins - all ruins are empty in 40d.

By crippled, he means the bugs that were introduced around 40d16, such as the game locking up when you die so you have to kill the process, not the lack of later-added features.
