Murderous Militia.
« on: August 09, 2012, 11:10:11 pm »

So, I started a new fort today, and my parent civilization did not have a supply of copper. I couldn't afford bronze pickaxes and so bought training axes instead. I wonder if this is the cause for the recent unfortunate incidents in my barracks.

You see, my Militia Commander has taken to grabbing other dwarves by the digits and fastballing them at the nearest wall. The first victim, his second-in-command, was hospitalized. An axedwarf migrant was the second, and broke his skull and tore his brain all over the floor.

Anyone else have similar experiences? Is it imperative that I get them real axes to prevent this behavior?

Oh God, it just sounds like a certain militia captain needs to have an "unfortunate accident"... I don't know why in the world I'd want him to have any real weapons, hahaha!

I have never had this happen. Equip the offender with a pick, and dig for magma.

Yes, give the nutter a real weapon, he obviously needs it. ::)
In the head.

Nah, I kid. :P
Check his status, see if he's unhappy with something-- better yet, use dwarf therapist and find out the reason for his violent urges. Without a pick I presume you have little access to high quality bedrooms, dining rooms and decent furniture except for what your carpenter can make.

If it's just sparring accidents from training you might just want to take the training axe off him and give them a larger area to spar-- at least 5x5.

Dwarves with higher strength and combat skills can hurt a lot when they tantrum.  Check his thoughts and see if he's miserable.

weird
i've had a time where my millita were sparing any suddenly they started acually fighting but i though that it was because of a add-on or something so that when a dorf is being beaten badly he will start lashing out randomly

Wrestlers are prone to accidents. And possibly being very vengeful.

I ran a human settlement as a training expieriment (My tests show humans tend to be far more aggressive) And the wrestling sergeant suffered in month 1 four broken ribs from a body slam. The next month a broken femure, and after that a broken wrist. After that one one recruit was killed a week for three weeks. AND HE DIDN'T CARE. He was actually happy as he took joy in killing the second one (the one who broke his ribs.)

As Corai said, leather armor reduces those injuries substantially.

Perhaps I should clarify, these are training accidents happening. Not a tantrum. If it was a tantrum, I'd have caged him.

But yeah, I just traded some zinc crafts for a lot of stuff from the humans, so I'll make some leather armor, caps first.

I was telling of "Training Accidents" too. Are you sure he wasn't injured before anyone else was killed? Just cause it isn't a tantrum doesn't mean he isn't a vengeful SOB.

The first incident happened in the second year. And the only ones who'd suffered injury prior to him were a child who got torn apart by wild animals, and a miner who broke his ankle due to careless channeling designations.

And yeah, I know you were talking about training accidents, but some of the other fine people who posted were under the impression that he was tantruming.

Is there such a thing as "softer" walls?  Say instead of using stone, line the room with some wood?
