Stockpiles for undecorated goods vs. decorated goods

I was trying to make a stockpile of undecorated (unencrusted) clothes next to my jeweler's workshop. and another stockpile for decorated (encrusted) clothes somewhere else. I wanted to avoid decorating the same item multiple times.

I was thinking that the "Core quality" refers to the crafting quality of the item and the "Overall quality" to the quality of the decoration. So I have forbidden all Overall quality degrees in the clothes stockpile next to the jeweller (permitting only items of any Core quality). The other stockpile where I wanted to have the decorated items had all core quality degrees permitted and all overall quality degrees permitted. Yet the dwarves started moving everything from the workshop's stockpile to the stockpile intended only for the decorated goods. (The whole fail of this experiment is documented and can be seen from 0h35m to 0h40m of my recent DF stream, the important part starting at 0h38m)

tl;dr
How does one set up a stockpile accepting only undecorated things and a stockpile only for decorated things?

Haven't tried the following, but maybe it'd work.

Undecorated stockpiles: one for each base quality level barring artifact, with the overall quality set to the same level as the base quality.
Decorated stockpiles: one for each base quality level barring masterwork or artifact, with the overall quality set to the levels other than the base quality.

This won't separate out items that have been decorated at the same quality as the base item*, but anything that's had its overall quality level raised by a decoration should be shunted into one of the 'decorated' stockpiles.

*Also possibly items that have been decorated at a lower quality than the base quality, but I'm pretty sure that the overall quality uses the highest modifier. So an =item= with a -decoration- would have an overall quality of =.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Overall quality does not refer to the quality of decorations, it refers to the total quality of the item created. That means that your first stockpile intended for unencrusted goods would not accept anything.

I think there might be a fix if we use the "one-way"ness (if anyone has a better term for this, please feel free to correct me) of stockpiles to create a supply chain. Brb experimenting.

Somebody pointed me to a thread which explains the Core Quality and Total Quality settings (now wikified!). After reading the thread I realized that there is currently no possible distinction between stockpiles of decorated and undecorated goods. )-:

But you can have stuff above a certain threshold moved to another stockpile farther (or closer) to the decorating workshop.  Basically, set things up so that once it reaches a certain level it gets moved to where it will get easily moved to the depot for trade at the next caravan.

Well, yes, that's the only option. Goods can be encrust or decorated multiple times. Once any of the decorations reaches marsterful quality, they could be moved to the masterful stockpile ready to be sold. The problem is that some items are masterfully crafted, so they'd get to be moved to the masterful stockpile without any decoration.

You could have your item production jobs handed out to everyone in the fortress, with the workshops producing those goods set to disallow any dwarf above a certain skill level (to prevent Urist McNothingBetterToDo from skilling up far beyond anyone else, and also to allow your real crafter to make useful objects in their own workshop). You'd still get masterpieces, but they'd be very rare, and if your decorator was at a level where *this* or higher is the lowest typical quality then it's very likely that any given item will jump in quality after a single decoration.

Not if you set things up to garuntee at least one decoration. :)

Simpler solution:

You define two furniture stockpiles.  One "takes from" your furniture-producing workshops (carpenter, mason, etc) and is set to only accept items from linked workshops.  You also set it to give to your jeweler.  The second furniture stockpile takes from the jeweler (and again, only accepts items from linked workshops).  Voila, every furniture item gets encrusted once and only once.

(Remember that you will also have to have your rough gem stockpile set to give to the jeweler's workshop.)
