I wish i'd known about this sooner. I've wanted something as insanely ambitious as this for years. All we need now is virtual reality tech. Speaking of which, when dwarf fortress becomes more accessible with a ui with a greater survival rates, full graphic support (le tilesets), and with access to all the tech that will exist by the time it's reached such a state, what will happen next?

Pardon my sounding like a hipster, but mainstream attention tends to have dire consequences for small communities in the short run... Sometimes permanently.
IE DayZ

What? It only killed the community and thus transforming a game into one huge PVP map and thus eliminating much of what was enjoyable about the game.

Ohh wait... nevermind.

DayZ is an exclusively multiplayer game, DF has no multiplayer whatsoever. All of the worst communities I've seen are either poorly moderated (/v/ and such) or centered on a multiplayer-heavy game.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

Greater survival rates?  If DF is ever deformed that badly, the next step will probably be everyone gets a trophy day trophies like you "earn" in some games for surviving the 100% non-lethal tutorial.

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

I hate to tell you this, weenog, but everything everybody here has ever done in DF constitutes the tutorial.  Nobody has passed it.  The game is just that hard and lethal.

Why would the donations be tax free?
Who taxes gifts? The US doesn't.

Yeah, they do
I'm not even sure if it would fall under Gift Income, if Bay12 is an LLC.
