so it is a law to pach a hole in the past law.
but will it change anything?
yes and no
yes joe public will not have such weapons so thay will be less of then around.
but as it is only a local ban such weapons will still be out there for any one willing to leave the state and brake the law .
I don't think it will really have an effect in terms of "there will be much less weapons". It's a very simple modification to prevent the guns, once again, from being classified as illegal- you just need to put on a funny shaped grip (MSRP $45 on the first one I saw for sale, on a $600-$3000 rifle).
Of course, conversely, this means that the "Der takin' 'er guns!" sentiment is relatively unfounded, even if California does indeed
want to take yer' guns. There will be no mass confiscation, or exodus of guns/their owners from California if this passes. Just a lot of really annoyed people and the odd confiscation horror story here and there. This would be doubly annoying to vendors who may suddenly have to modify a good portion of their AR-15's but I still doubt you would see shops closing their doors because of this alone.
Actually, no. All they have to do is take off the after-market addons, and voila! Not an assault rifle anymore.
So they're out maybe $50 instead of several hundred.
Well technically they need to take off their old addon as well as get a new one, so it's slightly more hassle than that, but yeah you're about right on the price point.
Anyway, those who say that sites like the "Stop SR249!" one are full of nonsense do have a point: What they're
really worried about is that all of their guns will suddenly become slightly more expensive, inconvenient, uncomfortable, and (in the opinion of many an incensed AR-15 owner) "fucking ugly as shit". I personally think the swept back grips look okay but that's an opinion I've been seeing a lot of.
