I can't order anything after the king comes. The caravan won't bring any stone unless I order it.
What, really? I had no idea. It's been a while since i've had a king.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Make steel leggings, and melt them down again. You make More metal then you started with.
[Ammo Stacks Exploit]

Y'know if you're going to expoit the game you may as well use DFHack to magic yourself up a load of flux / steel.
Jus, sayin.

Yeah but there isnt really, its still breaking the game mechanics ( whether the programmer missed something or not ), to gain somethign that want intended by the game-designer.

So, in reality the final limit to the steel industry is Intel and their most powerful single-threaded processor?

Pretty much.

Of course, a multi-thread processor can just shift all the other functions to one of its other cores. My puny 2.8 dual from the flintstone era (2007) does that.

Nope. You have to kill a lot of caravans before they get angry and declare war.
Your own civ will never declare war on you, so you can get the caravan's items any way you like. Have some coffins or slabs handy.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

But foreign civs will ^_^

Steel is supposed to be a precious material after all, on a par with gold in terms of value I think. What could you possibly need/want so much steel for anyway?

Its more fun when things are limited and therefore more precious  8)

As long as its possible without external software or modifications (such as DFHack or mods), I consider it fair game. At that point the only two criteria for abusing exploits are your own notions of fun and Fun.

Possible is an important word there; prospect and reveal I also consider fair - it doesn't give you abilities that you couldn't (theoretically, e.g. through massive amounts of savescumming) accomplish without that utility. Hell, even Dwarf Therapist fits that scheme if used in a manner that would be nigh impossible to accomplish with DF's native job assignment mechanism!

Also, bugfixes and other workarounds.

Karl Marxdorfs
They have the additional benefit of getting rid of any pesky Nobles. Of course, the next five-year plan to produce a thousand steel chain leggings (among other things) is now subject to scrutiny by the Planning Committee of the Socialist Republic of Oarmurdered, leaving you powerless to do anything when the dorfs decide this will best be accomplished by flooding the entire fort with magma.

What about Groucho Marxdorfs?
Oh, they kill elephants in their pajamas.
One has to wonder how the elephants get in their pajamas in the first place, of course.

...

Hey, Philosophers are Nobles too!

(Oh wow, look at all those rails this thread just sailed off in an arc of!) :P

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

The rails were probably made of steel.
