Anyway, proposals
•Agree upon a suitable embark location (for both the test, and actual colony) and how we're going to get there.I suggest a multistage plan:
Stage 1: Launch a robotic construction force. They have a nuclear reactor, and have to set up the following: Ice mine, underground habitation and most importantly the nuclear reactor should be converted in a water electrolizing facility. Which will produce hydrogen and oxygen for future use.
Stage 2: Construction of a spaceship in Earth's orbit. Consisting of 2 parts, a lander/glider and the space based part. Estimated capacity needed: 250 people. ?? ton cargo. Has it's own onboard greenhouse and magnetic field generator.
Stage 3: Launch the ship, have it drop of it's people, pick up fuel from Mars and return. Repeat as long as needed.
Timeline:
July 2020: Launch of the robot construction force
2020: Start construction of orbiter and lander
Begin 2022: Arrival construction force. Begin construction of the base
Oktober 2022: Next launch opportunity. If launch is on shedual, launch first human team, probably around 50 people
2024: Arrival orbiter, orbiter returns in december.
2026: Arrival orbiter on Earth
January 2027: Orbiter departs for Mars, fully crewded this time.
2028: Orbiter arrives. Estimated mars base population: 250 people
April 2029: Orbiter heads back to Earth
May 2031: Orbiter departs for Mars
End 2032: Orbiter arrives: Pop 500 people
July 2033: Orbiter heads back to Earth
Oktober 2035: Orbiter for Mars once more (Important: take fuelrods to resupply reactor)
2036: Orbiter arrives Pop 750
December 2037: Back to Earth
Feb 2039: Last flight to Mars
2040" Mars colony operational. Pop 1000 people
•Figure out what skills among our population will be essential to have before embarking.
We need 10 of every lifesaving medical profession.(2 on every manned flight)
•Come up with at least a rough estimate of what resources will be required and in what quantity.
•Get a more definite number of how many future colonists we have and how many will be required to successfully build and sustain the colony (at least until we can get the test tubes set up).
WIP. More detailed nmbers coming soon
