There exist such things as impartial opinions? My point is that it's going to be opinionated no matter what. Maybe you're asking for a more centrist view on what they're talking about? In which case, golden mean fallacy Or perhaps you're saying they're not defending their points with enough supporting facts? In which case that would be a legitimate complaint (but I couldn't verify it as I haven't watched many of their shows).
It's not impartial opinions that I'm wanting, it's distilling the opinion out of the places it can be removed. For example, there's no need for them to say 'Person X does Y, which is wrong' when they could just say 'Person X does Y'. When watching the shows, there's a strong sense that the producers have a strong ethical framework of their own, when something pings on their ethical radar they're very quick to jump in and say 'This is apalling', and they do it in such a manner that implies their ethics are universal ethical truths instead of their own beliefs(or at leat that's the impression that I get). I do realize that pretty much any form of media is going to carry with it implied moral standards to some extent, but their stuff can be very bad.
For harassment in particular, there do exist people who don't realize it's bad. I remember talking to a furry hater once, and after explaining why they were being a jerk, they simply asked "you're not one of those people who thinks everyone has to be nice all the time, are you?" No real refutation of my points; all they defended themselves with was "hurting people isn't bad." If that video is as preachy as you say, I'd love to strap a few people down to a chair and force them to watch it 40 times in a row.
I'm not questioning that there are people who don't think it's a bad thing. I don't like how they keep insisting on their own point of view. To use an extreme example, imagine if you were watching television and every time someone from an ethnic minority came on screen, the show paused and someone announced 'racism is bad'. You'd get pretty irritated, but it's not because you disagree with the message, it's because you disagree with the presentation. As I said in my last post, no matter how you feel about the situation, the way that they keep repeating their standards just gets in the way of enjoying it.
When it comes to watching videos like this, I dislike hearing people make such statements. I either agree with them, in which case I find it tedious to sit through them dragging through it, or I disagree with them, in which case I find it grating to hear them go through their opinion, or (most often) I believe it's a very complex matter where any mature opinion is going to have to be complicated and mized, in which case I get irritated by the simplification of affairs and the immaturity of taking such a simple stance.
Sounds like my dad. One time I was watching mythbusters he walks in and changes the channel without asking me and when I protested argued that mythbusters never does anything controversial enough.
I told him to go watch Penn & Tellers Bullshit if he wanted that.
If you don't like it I understand, just watch something else.
It's not that I want them to cover more controversial topics, it's that I don't like how they currently cover some of their topics. They have lots of episodes which I enjoy, but they also have lots of episodes that I don't enjoy.
