You know what I like? Were-gila-monsters...
« on: August 07, 2012, 11:12:55 pm »

So, my fort is around 2 years old now. Everything was going well until a dwarf turned into a weregilamonster. I chased it with my squad after it mauled a soap maker, and then it turned back. I vowed to watch that dwarf closely in case I had to put him down later (instead of doing the smart thing and atom-smashing him to bits). Well, he turns, my soldiers kill him. then the injured, hospitalized soap maker turns, and my soldiers kill that one too. But one gets bitten. I don't notice of course, and then, about a month later, that solder turns while lying in the hospital (I have a crippling lack of cloth for some reason so no he wasn't treated properly). That soldier then bites my militia leader, who, I'm assuming, is gonna turn next month if he doesn't die of his wounds first... I'm not sure if any other dwarves have been infected, and I'm just going to watch as my fortress is slowly destroyed by were-gilamonsters.

sounds like a streak of fun has hit your fort

The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?

Very much so. Although I think this last time the only guy bitten also died of his injuries, so hopefully I can recover before the tantrum spirals start...everyone is so mad because at least a couple victims were related to like a dozen dwarves. . .

The only way to "Cure" the fort is to dump the relatives and were-gilas into lava, The bodys will not be found and the dwarfs will not become uphappy.

Basically anyone who has injurys gets a free sauna bath

hahaha... that's awesome.

My last decent embark went like this...
Strike the earth. Space for trade depot is carved out, barrackdorm and primary stockpile-- Legendary dining room and space for crafting shops set up, stonecrafter already pumping out masterwork mugs and crowns--

Shortly before or after the second migrant wave, possibly IN the actual migrant wave.

Ostu, a weregecko has arrived!
Ostu, a weregecko has turned into a dwarf!

The were-gilas were a slight annoyance until they actually infected the soldiers. I didn't mind losing my choppers and whatnot. And then my soldiers started turning and that just got messy. New embark time. I'm praying to Armok and the RNG gods that I can avoid that fate for a bit . . .

Pure terror.

Also he mauled a woodcutter and bit a migrant like five seconds in before he turned.

You know what I hate? When people spontaneously achieve something ive wanted for ages, and they dont even want it.  Everytime I get a werecreature i go "Yeah, werefortress here I come!" ...aaand watch it get shot before it spreads the lovely, lovely curse. /rant over

All I ask is an embark with plenty of nice materials that allows me to get up at least a basic defence and infrastructure before assailing me with necromancer sieges, migrant vampires or werebeasts before the first caravan.

Maybe the game hates me, or maybe I just spend too much labor on smoothing and fortifying my water cisterns.
But hey, everyone likes a pretty fort. :P

Has it been confirmed or denied whether it is possible to have a fortress consisting solely of werecreatures? Because that would be incredibly useful if werecreatures still have that "regenerate everything" effect.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

I can confirm a 100% werecreature fortress will die :x

Still, I did some testing a while back and caged Dwarves still anchor your fort to the mortal plane, so having a caged invincible vampire somewhere in the fort means you could have a 99.99% were-creature fort.
