No, they're definitely surface dragons. Try changing the child tag, it doesn't directly affect hatching time. The little dragons are just considered to be children for a longer time, I think.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Temperature???

Do the eggs need [TEMPERATURE:YES] to incubate? I've switched it back on before for 2 clutches but the horrible lag forced me to switch it back off again.

Oddly enough, my magma forge/smelter still run.

No eggs don't need temperature to incubate.

IT is a fairly random process whether or not eggs are viable though, so if you can't get your eggs to hatch after a year or so just collect them and let another batch be laid.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Finally!!

Well, after adding [CHILD:10] and dumping all the eggs, and i mean all the eggs; i finally have baby dragons and hydras. Let me explain.

The dragon and hydra would never leave the nest box. I would order a clutch 'd'umped and within a few moments of them being removed, they would lay another clutch that would never hatch either. What i finally did was to keep dumping clutches until they were 'eggless'. I think there has to be an impregnation phase for them to lay fertilised eggs. So they must be out of the nest for a few weeks, putting polish on thier scales and shaking thier tails at the guys. Then, they will lay fertilised eggs and they will hatch within a season or two. Much faster than i expected.

My 3 new dragons appear to be adults and i'm not sure why with [CHILD:10]. Maybe i was away too long but not for 10 years. I'm going to savescum and test again with [CHILD:1] so i'll be able to see more results.

Propably size-related. Glad that it started working, by they way.

pretty sure that's true that they need to be fertilised before they are laid, they arn't fish which do it that way.

Glad you solved it, your solution makes a lot of sense.

Dear Urist McStockpileDrone
I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.
