I still like longbows for weapons... Cheap and very effective.

*Sigh* Again: "Build palisad" is non-valid, say how many peasants you want to do it please..
Also, longbows would be pretty cheap considerend it's mostly wooden, however, getting people to actually be able to use it might be a challenge :D

Ain't longbows made of old Yews. That would ramp up the price a bit.

But yeah, maybe we should organize Longbow training on sundays or something.

Why on earth would we use pikes?

We have a population of 59. The pike is a formation weapon...

I agree with cows, though can we get a price check on leather vs wool? And don't forget you can get milk from sheep too.

Send a man to scout the surrounding lands for anyone who can help prospect/set up a metalworking industry. I vote that as our major investment, we should have enough gold to attract him.

Also check for suitable wood in the forest for bows - longbows would require more specific types of wood, but there should be wood we can use for some type of bows.

Then set 2 people to making boiled leather armour for our militia - use the stuff coming in from the hunters.

+1 to all of this

-bows, or longbows if we can afford. about 15, we'll see when we'll know prices.
-Maybe some more formal weaponry for our 5 trained militia.

Plan is to have 5 close-combat militia, who will become progressively fulltime guards as we become able to having them not doing anything else (which might be very soon), and 15-or-so (long)bow militia, trained sundays.

-Build enough cabins to host all lumberjacks. Send all idlers there so it will be done ASAP.

-Go see Lady Shanaria personally. We must know better about her (personnality, ambitions...), so we can know if we're willing to request vassalisation from her (as in, become her vassal, not the reverse!). It'll mean accepting all her requests of military assistance, and having in return protection and help in time of need.
Also, ask for a spare clerk.

-Have some peasant specializing in product transformation (wheat to bread, milk to butter and cheese...)

EDIT: yes, pikes are unfitted for us. BOWS. Cows are better because leather is more valuable in the region, we asked.
Smith is definitively a want.

Was actually writing this up when you bumped.
You send 5 idling peasants to make more space for animals. The price for leather seems to be higher than that of wool.
You send out somoene to search for a smith.
You send 10 people to search for wood usable for bows. They find wood which is useable for short and regular bows, however, for longbows they all miss the required strength to give enough power.
You send one leftover idler to help the cabins.

Start with regular bows for now. Expand the search for longbow strength wood... Long term, I wonder if we could treat the wood somehow and make it strong enough? Otherwise, we will have to trade for it if we can't find it.

Doubt it. We might make composite bows, but that would requiring breaking the games setting.

I thought about locating and then transplanting trees, but that also seems out of context for the setting. Ah well, trade it is.

Otherwise, just inspect construction until all of our searchers return.

Yews take quite some time to grow. Especially the ones they use to make the bows from. One of the main reasons longbows were abondonned (besides the fact that guns were easier to use) was that they ran out of trees.

Let's just make the best bows we can for the time being. Better than nothing!

agree. And I once again pledge for envisioning being vassalized by lady shanaria. Middle-term benefits are enormous. And if her family got two duchies, we will have the most powerful ally in the area.

Can we look into if the duchess can even take us on as a vassal? Discretely, that is...
