New World Generation?
« on: August 05, 2012, 04:28:45 am »

Hey,
is it just me or has the world generation been seriously changed?
In the old version i never found a map without coal or adamantine, now i hardly find a map with even one of the two.
It just seems really weird. To have a decent set of ressourses i basically HAVE to use dfhack now and even then it requires a TON of searching for finding even one remotly suitable place.
It just seems that it was alot different before and i really don't like it how it is now. It doesn't make the game harder really, it just makes it so much more tedious to find an embark location.

A default-sized embark square is, I believe, guaranteed to contain adamantine. Coal might be a matter of where you're embarking; try less-volcanic areas with more sedimentary stone.

Coal = you need lots of sedimentary stone, which is not compatible with volcanic stone
Iron = mostly in the sedimentary layers, so look for "shallow metals"
Flux = most maps have a marble layer, even if it doesn't count as FLUX to the embark finder

A pre-embark DFHack "prospect all" is useful, but doesn't guarantee.
