Kathryn was awake to greet the Dawn. The scent of funerary incense-sweet, engaging Myrrh-drifts through the camp.

The delicious fragrance also helps everyone wake up with a smile, anyway.

She chants a prayer in a winding, holy voice. Only Lon would be completely familiar with it-maybe even comforted by it- as he's heard Kathryn sing it enough as they traveled.

...To thee your servant chants, O lady,
Destroyer of the undead, Goddess without peer,
Queen who shapes the lives of all mankind,
Thou stately sovereign of the Shadowfell...

The "Shadowfell" is the Queens Deathly Domain. A place of cold, and shadow. Her Majesties Kingdom.

...Mother of the moon, oh hear!
Lead our weapons surely and award
Victory to those who would do your will.

While the Queen surely calls upon the night and the moon for her Strength, her followers still welcome the day. Those who believe in her, do not relish Death-they celebrate life. Few people understand.

Crown us with majestic Fate, Raven Queen
Fierce defender of those who have found peace,
Thou makest room for new life; thou dost lead
With bravery our comrades to fight for honor;
The gift of courage is thine, for thou art valiant...

All things die. The Queen does not order their time, and place. She merely helps them accept it.

Thy will is resolute, irrevocable,
None may undo it save to their undoing;
Thy hand is merciful, thou queen of the dead...

The First part is why the Clergy of The Raven Queen is such an adamant enemy of the undead, and those who attempt to cheat life unnaturally...

...Clad in enchantment and enrobed with Radiance
Thou sovereign wielder of the wand of Doom,
Look to your servant, defender of life and death.

The prayer ends with a ringing, soul wrenching cry-the end of the song, the end of life. For a moment, it is colder than it was before. Than the sun breaks through the clouds, and it is warm again.

Kathryn breathes steady, ready to live another day.

Kathryn popped open an eye at Falor, coming out of her trance. She had a strange flash of insight.

"...That one will die in his sleep..." She said, in prophetic tones.

If from old age, or an Orcs sword to the guts while he naps, she wasn't clear.

William closely observes the ceremony which Kathryn performs - and which makes him very uncomfortable. Although he respects Gods, he has always tough that seeking attention from one - trough prayer or ritual - is just begging for trouble.

He is unsure what to make of the prophecy about Falor.

"So, shall we get moving then?", William asks directing his question to no one in particular.

Lon had been feeding and untying the animals, and missed the prophecy. He had heard Kathryn's chanting however, and smiled to himself at the memories that arose. Some of the memories were good, others pretty terrible, but they were memories nonetheless.

He heard William speak up as he led the horse and mule back to the cart.

"A marvelous idea, friend," Lon proclaimed in his usual grandiose way of speaking. "If you would be so kind as to wake up our young wizard friend here, I will hitch this old nag to the cart. The day is still young, and we have far to travel!"

((Lon has unofficially taken on the role of animal caretaker, unless anyone wishes otherwise. He seems to be the only one in the group so far that has the Handle Animal skill.))

Mordgard feels the shine of the sun once more, he opens his eyes and sees the other already preparing themselves to leave and stands up. He is still affected by his night, and his pose notes mild fear, He jokingly says "leaving without me?" trying to move the attention from his dreams to the work. He then sees the rest sleeping an wakes them up poking them with the shaft of his ax.

Jax stood up and stretched. Slightly unnerved by the prayer and the prophecy (but more by the prophecy), he went ahead and got ready for the next day's travel. He looked around at the group.  They didn't seem to care that he was a thief, did they? No. That was good, as he was pretty sure they had figured it out by now. Absentmindedly sharpening his kukri, he thought back to the past few days. Having fled from the nearby town with gang on his heels- he didn't know it was their turf- he had come to the small town as a stop on his journey to the next city. It was a bit away, still, and he was glad he had joined up with these travelers.

Unfortunately, though, the thought of the past few days brought his mind back to the burglary, and the guards- oh, the guards. The burglary had been going well, and he was in through the second-story window, when he tripped over the wire. It was hidden low to the ground, just inside the window. It seemed to have a spell on it- the alarm went off, and he heard the footsteps coming up the stairs. He had hidden behind the door, drawing his kukri as he shoved his bloodlust down and steeled himself for what was about to come.

The guards burst through the door, shining light from their lanterns onto the myriad chests in the room. Jax knew that they were going to spot him, it was just a matter of time. Reaching out with his kukri, he slashed the second guard's throat from behind, and cut loose. Leaping at the other guard, he let the guard's poorly-aimed slash glance off his armor as he slammed the blade up, through the underside of the guard's arm, sending it flying, still holding the sword, to the floor. His blood pouring from the stump, the guard sunk to the floor, his eyes wide and his face pale. Slashing him once, twice more, Jax caught the lantern and blew out the wick, and stepped back as the sight caught up to him. Shuddering at his own murderous intent, he stepped back against the wall. He heard more boots coming up the stairs. It was time to go.

He had escaped, but the target was on a gang's territory. He had been forced to leave the city at the threat of death by the gang. And now he was here, looking at an opportunity for a new life. The day looked brighter.

((Bumping this for Yoink too. :P ))

Kathryn finishes her prayers, rolling up the mat and packing away the candles. She stows her gear and retrieves Prancer, her pack pony, whose spent the night tied to a tree, nibbling contentedly on the grass. She takes the time to rub her mane and talk to her. Kathryn had found the poor beast at sitting in an empty lot, half price-her owners sold her for a pittance, convinced it was sickly and would die soon. It was only natural, Kathryn had thought, to buy the gentle animal.

That was many years ago, actually. Prancer had been, well, prancing along with her almost as long as Lon had. Maybe she was just Lucky...

She led the Pony over to Lon (he was good with animals), and joined the rest as they began to leave the camp. Well, whenever the Wizard woke up.

Kathryn walked beside Lon, that day. She pulled a reasonably fresh apple from her pack, and broke it in two-handing one half to him, eating the other herself.

"Good Morrow, Love." She exclaimed. "I'm sure my chants have depressed the party enough, they're just itching for one of your traveling songs to wake them up." Kathryn said, with a smile.

Another day or two like that, and we'll hit level 2 in no time! :D
And something tells me that sacrificial dagger is or will be important. Possibly the circlet as well.

Jax will claim the moss agate, or the sacrificial dagger, depending on if anyone wants the gem.
