Your problem is not caffeine, or in other words - caffeine is not a problem at all. But amount of sugar you take is ridiculous. Sugar is ten times more sinister here. Constant high insuline levels, huge calorie intake, diabetes, yada yada.

I don't mind caffeine at all, I usualy drink 2-3 big cups of black coffee at work, every day, no sugar, no cream. Bad taste? I dunno. For me cup of freshly milled and brewed coffee is delicious. Yes it's bitter, but it's good bitter. It's GREAT bitter. And aroma... You will get used to it. And then you will love it. And it's alot healthier than soda. Another alternative - tea. Some people prefer tea, some coffee. It's like dogs vs cats. But soda? Cmon, its tastes awful.

Cut sugar intake at all, I mean no sweets, no cakes, only "slow" carbs like pasta and even a small thought about sweet soda will make you feel ill.

And plain water indeed have a flavour. It's various naturally occurring minerals or lack of thereof which makes it tasty or not.

You seem to have misunderstood the problem, which absolutely was caffeine, not sugar. I cut caffeine because I was using it as a crutch to get through the day, much like I did with alcohol when I was addicted to that. As of today, I've been a month with no caffeinated soda (only Sprite in the cherry limeade that the local wing place makes), no coffee, no tea. The only caffeine intake I have is via chocolate, which is extremely limited in nature. I will not "get used to" the flavor of coffee or tea, because both taste like distilled ass, and I won't drink them. For the life of me, I will never understand how people drink coffee. The bitterness you so love makes me nauseous. It smells delicious, and then you drink it and gag. That's not something I want to get used to drinking.

Yes, sugar is a problem, and I understand the repercussions thereof. We're working on cutting it down dramatically as well. We don't keep sweets in the apartment. No candy, baked goods, etc, unless it's a special occasion, and even then they are kept to a minimum. Most of my sugar intake comes from the occasional hot cocoa, because Wolfeyez spoils me and puts marshmallows in it.

Water does have a flavor, and I've finally found a bottled brand that I can stomach. Ice Mountain is not horrible, and I drink a good lot of water via bottle nowadays. There are some places that I can refill my bottles from the tap that aren't horrible, like the college drinking fountains, or my parents' house, but the tap at home is awful and Brita filters make it worse. Oddly, the Brita filtered water makes it taste more like plastic than the bottles do.

I've cut about 900 calories a day from my diet by ditching pop. I was anywhere from 1.5l to 3l every day. That maxes out at nearly 1400 calories, or almost a pound and a half of fast food alfredo pasta.

I know what you mean. I used to drink loads of coke (as in coca-cola), as in every other day i was buying a 1.5l bottle. Now i've been buying cans, simply because I can restrict myself to 2 cans a day, occasionally one occasionally four. Of course, I also go to the gym plenty to burn off energy, so that helps. Well, it's not as bad as you had it, of course, because I could stop if I wanted to.

Dude. This is the number one quote uttered by addicts. "Yeah, I could give up meth, but I don't want to." No, your brain doesn't want to because you're addicted, and feeding the addiction makes you happy. Withdrawal sucks, but it's worth it for the extra energy and removal of crashes. Alcohol took about a week and a half to recover from, and caffeine took me about 5 days. So. Very. Worth. It.

Well, I've come off the daily caffeine. Back to the ol' binging process, which I have to admit I'm still a fan of. Might be addiction talking there, but there's a definite difference in the sensation here. When it was daily, I just needed the stuff to function, and no amount would actually put me above normal focus and energy. Just gave me control over when I woke up. Where I'm at now, there's definitely a boost beyond normal performance, although there's always a rough couple of days when I come down. Probably not a really good idea, though. I'm tired enough at work. Once I get these projects wrapped up, I might try taking a shot at a more durable abstinence.

I keep telling my IRL friends that they have a caffeine addiction if they need to drink a shitton of coffee and energy drinks a day, and that's a bad thing. But they're always saying something along the lines of "no that's stupid you're stupid I'm fine *swig* don't make a big deal over it". I still reckon I'm right. Not that it directly affects me, I don't like coffee, and I don't drink energy drinks ever, and tea is not something I drink regularly either.

Yeah, no, I think you're right on that one. Addictions have an inherent negative value, and it's really only when breaking them is more trouble than maintaining them that its reasonable to stay attached to them. Still, can't make everyone act reasonable all the time (and probably shouldn't try).

I've decided a few days ago to stop sodas/energy drinks completely and coffee during the evenings/nights to see if that helps with my constant fucking insomnia. That cut's my caffeine intake to 2-4 cups of joe a day and none after 18:00. We'll see how this goes.
