Anti-flier security help needed

I happen to be subject to constant zombie raven invasions, and I would like to know if building an up stair over open space denies access to fliers trying to enter from beneath it. Because if they can find a way, they'll find it :|
If the answer is yes, it'll let all the ravens in the world through, would a locked hatch keep them out AND permit access to the upper levels for ground walkers?

An "up stair" has a solid floor beneath it, so it should prevent anything from coming up from below.

You can't construct an up stair on a 'floored' tile and it sounds like he needs a stairway from a floored room.

You can build all the way up to the top of the sky.

Doing this will completely block out any fliers while at the same time allowing windmill farms that can operate with complete safety.

But you need to use fortifications or raising bridges on the top level.

Yes, but fortifications are no harder to build than walls or floors.

Just build walls up to the level just below the top level. Then at the very top of your tower, surround it with fortifications. It looks nice, it makes sense, and also provides perfect security.

I got 100zlvls of open space to build up, not so easy :P

Sounds like someone needs to build an obsidian and iron tower of Barad-dûr.
