I just downloaded and ran dwarf fortress for windows.  I am up to the screen that starts with "Welcome to the alpha of Dwarf Fortress" and reminds you, ironically, about possible instability, hangs, bugs, etc.  At the bottom of the screen it says "ESC to continue".  Well, I can't seem to get past this screen!  Yes, I pressed escape, I pressed every other key on the keyboard as well.  I tried all the modifiers, etc. 

UPDATE:  My escape key does NOT function properly.  It doesn't work for other functions like un-fullscreening a youtube video, stopping a webpage load.  Shift+escape DOES work for those functions, but shift+escape does NOT work for passing that screen in Dwarf Fortress.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of another way to pass that screen?

UPDATE:  There was a user management program running on my computer that somehow gimps the escape key.  Once I ended the process it worked.  Thank you tekworm.
