The amount of times these threads pop up is disheartening. Running headfirst into a sword is death. It's not overpowered when it's meant to freaking kill you. They didn't exactly invent them to be blocked by a helmet and some cloth.

genius, didn't see it that way
i don't mind getting unqualified answers if their authors are not serious but you seem to be.
however, if you weren't serious, just put up some smileys

comparing anything from DF to the real world is just... i mean you can kill people by throwing your own blood o.O

1. I am vehemently opposed to smileys. The only times I ever use smileys is if I say something so objectively horrific I have to make it clear I'm joking.
2. It's got its bugs here and there, but DF's at least trying to be realistic.

Haha, i remember when i first asked him...

It was afforded to me at great expense by a great lungfish. 'Twas a fell day indeed.

I think it's pretty clear that any game that models the shear strenght of metals and the bodies of creatures from skin to bone with everything in between as part of it's combat sim is attempting to be realistic.

It's also pretty clear that the throwing system is so broken it would be generous to describe it as buggy.

Ergo your argument is invalid.

Your point is speed, spin and mass, but in the same respect AP bullets tend to have hard outer jackets. ;)

Just want to point out that the "Armour" in your "AP bullets" term is much more than the wearable plate steel (or variants, thereof) of yesteryear.  They're made for the armour on armoured vehicles and while they are often good against everything up to and including modern anti-ballistic clothing, 'most' standard ammo can pierce medieval armour (generally speaking, and depending on the angle of striking, range, etc), and its a whole new ball-game of armour that needs tungsten-tipping/whatever to make an armour-piercing solution...

Yeah, the size in relation to the speed is what makes them so deadly.  But really, they are overpowered, but they're supposed to be.  They take a long time to reload, in real life and in the game, but they're pretty damn deadly in both.

Except that an expert marksman might as well have the quiver magically feeding rounds into it, Van Helsing style.
