Liquid containing barrel ... that contains liquid.
« on: August 01, 2012, 11:19:43 am »

No, I'm not drunk.  My dwarves have just had a caravan visit from mountain home and one of the items is

Liquid Barrel (Cedar)

Contents:
(Liquid[10])

... wat?

I think I'm going to buy it - just to see if any dwarf is brave enough to drink it. :P

I recall that this is a recent bug. The liquid is just a generic object and won't do anything interesting, nor will anyone drink it.

It's a bug that was introduced in version 0.31.01 - if a civilization has access to any creature with a "suck blood" attack (e.g. sea lampreys or mosquitos), then it will be capable of trading a "liquid" which is actually made of nothing at all.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

So, it's a barrel of diet soda?

Liquified nothing, sort of a liquid vacuum I imagine.

It's like drinking distilled water that doesn't contain any water

The liquid's material literally decodes as "NONE:NONE" (material type and subtype both equal to -1) - it has no material at all, therefore it's made of nothing.

let's just say is another element of DF quantum physics quirks, a barrel of liquid nothing... probably when you atom-smash something with a bridge in another part of the DF world an empty barrel, gets filled with the liquified quantum nothingness or something like that...  :P

And if the caravans don't bring you enough, you can request even more liquid from diplomats who offer trade agreements.

So let me get this straight, you got a barrel filled with a liquid that isnt a liquid, but is a liquid that just doesn't exist, but does exist at the same time?

I blame !!Science!!.

It is a liquid and it does exist. These two things are absolutely certain. The liquid however is made of nothing.

I wonder, has anyone tried spilling it? leaving it outside so it freezes? can you get "a puddle of liquid" or "frozen liquid"?

technically speaking a puddle of liquid would be like the acme portable holes they used to have in the loony toons, a quantum hole into nothingness  :P

Edit: found the pic!

Would it become a 'cloud of liquid' if heated?
